Not really, but that's mostly because I'm basing my presumptions on the past JJ movie (edit) that was post-converted to 3D.Anyone looking forward to see it in 3D? It is noticeable that barely anyone talks about it, neither negatively nor positively.

There's only been one though? Not really, but that's mostly because I'm basing my presumptions on past JJ movies that were post-converted to 3D.
Ah, in that case, my apologies. I was talking about Into Darkness. There's only been one though?
I'm still not clear how ST:ID is terrible.
Sure, it's not the greatest sci-fi film out there and doesn't hold a candle to its 2009 predecessor, but it's far from a disaster.

I think the script is just bad. Luckily they got Kasdan instead of Orci for star wars though.I'm still not clear how ST:ID is terrible.

My biggest question/concern for the new trilogy is whether they can even hope to to deliver on the setpieces from the Original Trilogy. The trench run, the Hoth battle, Asteroid Field chase, Speeder Bike chase, and ROTJ space battle delivered a level of of spectacle that is still pretty damn amazing. I have every bit of faith that the action scenes will be well shot and exciting but there was something special about the setpieces in the original that I have a hard time imagining can be matched.
The only reserved seating theater around here is booked solid throughout the weekend. Every showing. Insanity.
Guess I'm fist fighting over seats next weekend.
I can see an obvious mistake you're making here right off the bat...

I've only liked avatar in 3d. Everything else is post processed garbage.
Frankly id be very surprised if the battles were as iconic, that being said certain shots in the trailers have been very impressive

What I think could be iconic are the lightsaber battles which are being described as "Raw" "Dangerous" "Emotional" and serving the story

I don't know, I've never really worried much about this. Those setpieces are timeless, but every year when I rewatch the OT I notice a tiny little bit more age to them nevertheless, if that... makes any sense whatsoever. I have faith that the right team of key personnel can make things bigger and bolder and sleeker and spicier without going overboard and just making them look silly.
There have been a lot of things in space opera media in the last 20 or so years in particular that have been quite impressive. Pepper in a Star Wars budget and add the right people for the job and I think it's a recipe for success. The scope will be rivaled, the depth will be equaled.
"And in technicolor."
That's the thing though- sure those original scenes become a little more dated year by year. But the fact that these sequences that are 30-40 years old still hold up to that degree speaks to the level that they were when released. Can a modern action sequence have the same effect on audiences that the trench run had in '77 or the Asteroid chase in '80?
basicallyNo exaggeration I think that fight between Kylo and Finn is going to be great, but I think Finn will get absolutely bodied

The next wave of toys they have been holding back til release for spoilers will feature a maimed and beaten Finn, with spare limb accessories.
"Bodied Finn"
I wish there were IMAX showing without 3D but it doesn't look like the case.Film had scenes shot with IMAX cameras making seeing this in IMAX a must for me so no choice but to see it in 3d.
A big reality check to people has to be that you cant recreate Star Wars, its unfathomable that it existed and got so much right WHILE changing so much at the same time, closest ive seen is the Lord of the Rings films which still fall short, while still being incredible, Matrix gets an honourable mention.
Ah. Well then the answer is probably a resounding "no."
It's a remarkably different climate though. Every year now several films vie for the annual miniaturized "trench run shock and awe" effect on eager audiences. We're rather... saturated with setpieces. Everything blends, and (in part as a result of that blending) nothing really holds anywhere near the level of the OT, yeah.

Think Brock Lesnar v Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania before Seth Rollins showed up
Fucking
Bodied.
The funniest thing I'm gonna do before watching this? I'm gonna watch Star Trek '09.
I mean, it's a good movie.
And the third nuTrek flick is getting its teaser trailer debut attached to TFA, anyway. (I'm hoping my theater doesn't boo. God, I hate the stupid forced rivalry.)
Booked my tickets when it became available but theater doesn't have reserve seating. I'm showing up an hour before the movie just to make sure I get a decent seat for me and my cousin.
But getting the seats when you first get there is half the battle. Then what if you need to pee before it starts, or grab some snacks?
I plan on bringing some yellow police tape to save those fuckers if I need to get up at any point.
Hopefully. On a side note, based on the lack of promotional exposure, my belief is that General Hux ain't gonna be anything more than this film's Grand Moff Tarkin as far as mortality goes.Hopefully Kylo is s cool villain. I can't remember the last villain that really stood out in a movie. I ain't expecting Darth Vader icon status but they need to be much better than Marvel. Villains > heroes.

I said it a few times in this thread. My biggest fear is waiting in line at the 7:30 show Friday night and while I'm waiting in line someone someone just blurts how minor and huge spoilers.
Imo this is the one movie above all that I see people doing that shit
Should I buy this for the premier? I think its so great.
