Only two more days!

Haven't been this hyped for anything since the GBA release.

For me it's kinda like seeing Lord of the Rings each year (hobbit was disappointening), depending on if the new movies are good and not just Phantom Menace 2.0.

Well my assumption (based on the fact a previous conversation with my GF had her say she wasn't bothered about watching this at the cinema and wanted to wait until it was out on blu ray) led to trouble yesterday, she was annoyed when I said I might go and watch it on Friday because I didn't ask her if she wanted to go.

New scenes, new music, opening music spoiled

Id say if you are on the fence dont watch, there is alot of new stuff

Oh, then I better wait a couple of days until I watched it.

Tell her, Star Wars is bigger than you and her both.

I feel bad for buying a ticket to a Thursday showing instead of Wednesday. I've literally never been this excited for a movie, and I don't even expect it to be a masterpiece or anything. I just want some Star Wars.

It was only last week that I realized Finn was the kid from Attack the Block. He looked familiar, but I couldn't guess from where... Never bothered to check either.

The only reason I don't wanna go on day one is I feel someone is gonna try something ala batman dark knight rises but definilty this week hype is through the damn roof

Everyone gonna stay up at watch the premier tonight? Livestreamed :D

I was getting gas today and the little infotainment video screen in the gas pump told me that there's no post-credits teaser on The Force Awakens.

The gas pump told me this.

I don't know if I've ever seen media saturation on this level. Anyone who makes it to Thursday without inadvertently learning the entire plot of the film is going to have to be a goddamn anti-spoiler ninja.

What time?

http://screenrant.com/star-wars-7-force-awakens-world-premiere/
Fans will be able to stream the world premiere live on starwars.com starting at 5:30 p.m. PST on December 14

Lucasfilm has a review embargo for The Force Awakens in place until December 16, 2015, but that only pertains to written reviews by the press. Anyone in attendance who is not covering the movie for an outlet will be able to share their instant reactions on social media once the premiere is over.

:D

Internet shut off after tomorow until I see it this weekend - and I made a post that the license to this movie is everywhere I think Disney just gave the license out and said pump out this shit asap

Is it safe to assume that Disney will be quicker with the bluray for this, than Lucasfilm was with the prequels? I feel like those took forever (even counting from when Bluray were actually a thing, ofcourse).

Rant post.

It is a damning tragedy in modern day filmmaking that this film is only being shown in its true format at these fifteen locations in the entire world.

McWane Center IMAX Dome Theatre – Birmingham, AL
IMAX, U.S. Space & Rocket Center – Huntsville, AL
Hackworth IMAX Dome, The Tech Museum – San Jose, CA
Museum of Discovery & Science AutoNation IMAX – Ft. Lauderdale, FL
IMAX Dome, Museum of Science & Industry – Tampa, FL
IMAX, Indiana State Museum – Indianapolis, IN
Blank IMAX Dome, Science Center of Iowa – Des Moines, IA
Branson’s IMAX, Entertainment Complex – Branson, MO
St. Louis Science Center OMNIMAX Theatre – St. Louis, MO
Tuttleman IMAX, The Franklin Institute– Philadelphia, PA
Kramer IMAX, Saskatchewan Science Centre – Regina, Canada
Lockheed Martin IMAX, National Air & Space Museum, Washington DC
Fort Worth Museum of Science & History – Fort Worth, TX

LG IMAX, Darling Harbour – Sydney, Australia
The Science Museum – London, England

Additionally, you can find the locations that are showing it in IMAX's new laser projection (at the correct aspect ratio, in 3D, but digitally) at this link to see it they're near you. It all goes back to the blockbuster or bust point in modern filmmaking.

Here are the difference between the versions:

You are most likely going to see this:

You are most likely NOT going to see this:

If you're a director like JJ Abrams, I don't think your vision should be compromised in this manner or you should even allow it to happen (TY Quentin). He's lucky that he even gets to use IMAX cameras in the first place. Why even bother to film in this format if no one is going to be able to see it? AND then brag about it? #bestformatever And then back track and say the 3D version of the film is the way to go? #nologic

It annoys me that seemingly artistic people are okay with letting studios chase $$$ in their name (3D tickets sell for higher prices so fuck paying people to project the movie in 70mm using real projectors and affecting your bottom line) whilst sending the exact opposite message regarding their vision to the paying customer. Talk about selling out.

Anyways, an argument can be made that at some point in time Star Wars was about the art and craft of moviemaking, or the wonder, adventure, and excitement a sci-fi story could contain, or that it was some elaborate and fitting commentary on modern day humanity. But, at face value when considering Star Wars' more recent failures both critically and at the box office things have changed drastically regarding what Star Wars is. IMO it has become abundantly clear that we can no longer make such an argument in the defense of Star Wars and the modern day spectacle that it is. Yet we still do. It is astonishing. Our adored franchise sold out and it's about time we all came to terms with this.

^ Star Wars is not and has never been sci-fi. And that IMAX aspect ratio is fugly as hell.

I would expect the Blu-ray release in May, if I had to guess.

Guessing Easter promo blitz for Rogue One and the Force Awakens Blu to hit then?

Yeah, it's completely empty screen space, specifically because Abrams was well aware that the vast majority of theaters would screen it in 2.35:1. The full frame version looks like someone forgot to matte the shot properly and just put up raw film. All movies look like that in raw form, but they're shot to be seen in 2.35:1 or 16:9, depending on the filmmakers' choice. I would be pretty surprised if the unmatted version was the intended formatting, and the fact that it's only in 15 theaters in the world like that is pretty good evidence of it. It does bring up the question of whether the Blu-ray will contain that version, though.

Like the fourth day of May?

I see what you did there. Or the week before Memorial Day week, which is the traditional theatrical release week for Star Wars films before this one (and the release week for Episode 8 in 2017). But really it's more that it seems like a decent halfway point between TFA's release and Rogue One's release, and lets them pack Civil War trailers onto the Blu-ray to prepare for that film's June release.

Why film with those big expensive cameras?

You know it's only one or two scenes that are filmed with imax cameras right?

You know movie theaters can charge more for 3D screenings? And they don't need to have an expensive projector or pay a projectionist.

It's one scene btw.

Is Daisy's head super massive IRL or are these pictures messed up?

No the images were doctored because I have a large head fetish.

Why film with those big expensive cameras?

Because they're great cameras, especially for big action stuff, which is all they used them for in this film. Dark Knight did something similar. But because a ton of people will not be seeing the film in IMAX, any film that does that will always still frame the action with an eye to a standard aspect ratio, and the extra IMAX picture will always be extraneous scenery that doesn't really add anything of real value to the shot. Only films that are intended to be exclusively seen in IMAX will use the full frame properly at that aspect ratio.
