I envy people with low expectations.

I have fairly low expectations myself. I like Star Wars a lot but the trailers haven't hyped me up as much as I thought they would. Not the biggest fan of Abrams either. I don't expect it to be bad but I doubt that it'll be memorable.

Do you really expect it to beat the nostalgia of the originals? Never going to happen. So those expectations aren't low, they are fair.

That's quite a leap you made there. Huge difference between being better than the prequels and beating the originals. Considering how terrible the prequels are the chances of TFA being on that level or somehow even worse are not high.

Well you gotta admit, the stuff Lucas did to the OT was egregious, especially the end of ROTJ where if you watch the films for the first time, in release order, you gotta wonder who the fuck that long haired ghost is.

the prequels suck but whatever, Lucas can make whatever films he wants. I just found the shit he did to the OT series to be real crappy and bothersome. Glad to have the despecialized editions to put under my pillow at night, my dreams great enhanced by there being in my home.

I think what keeps the prequel hate truly alive and intense is the fact that Lucas seemed to keep going back and making the original trilogy worse with each re-release. What Lucas did to the climax of ROTJ felt like it was almost spiteful. I think people would be more forgiving of the prequels (a little) if Lucas at least left the other movies alone.

You talking about throwing in hayden christensen as the force ghost, and the shots of the other planets celebrating?

I guess as reminders of the prequels it might sting a bit, but there nothing really wrong with those additions otherwise.

I actually prefer the end of ROTJ in the Blu-ray release. No Yub Yub, I say yes yes.

(And I'm old enough to have seen the films in the 80s)

Eh, this might be more of a problem for people who already saw the movies. Purely anecdotal, but I showed my girlfriend the OT over the summer, and despite having never seen the prequels or even knowing who Hayden Christensen is, immediately 'got' that the Hayden ghost was young Anakin.

Naboo is the only prequel planet inserted in that montage. The Coruscant shot was included before Phantom even came out.

I'm talking about adding the same "NOOOO" from Revenge of the Sith into Jedi when Vader takes down the Emperor. It ruins the scene and makes almost no sense to be there.

Yub Nub is fine, especially if I have to live with Jedi Rocks as part of that exchange

It also doesn't make much sense that he would be the ghost of himself from like 30 years ago from Luke's perspective. It just makes the whole ghost thing weird and the change itself is just Lucas making a change for the sake of making a change

99% of the time, I have low expectations for any movie. Rare exceptions being stuff like Fury Road and the Raid movies

If I'm entertained, hey it's a good time at the movies. A good story, good characters, etc. are icing on the top

All I'm expecting out of TFA is a fun sci-fi action adventure

the new end of ROTJ is much better. Minus Hayden.

Vader NOOOO in ROTJ is the thing that rustles my jimmies. For the actual final scene I actually prefer the new music over Yub Yub. I'm actually impartial to the Hayden change. On the one hand it makes no sense for his Force Ghost to look young again, but on the other hand the original actor was on screen as Anakin for a whole 90 seconds so I have no attachment to him.

I didn't mind most of it, to be honest. And even if I did, Despecialized Editions exist, plus those old prints they released some years back. Lots of alternatives, all of which didn't involve giving George Lucas money to boot, which should've made you guys really happy. There are reactions to minor changes you don't like in movies and there's reactions to, like, real tragedies. I wish the fanbase had that kind of perspective.

EDIT: I honestly liked Yub Yub best, but we got to play that song in band when I was in school, so that's more a personal thing.

yeah I agree that NOOOOO is like.. such a slap in the face.

All the "George Lucas Raped My Childhood" shit. I get it, people hated the last three, but with such intensity, kept up for 16+ years? C'mon.
The Phantom Menace came out when I was like 10 and I honestly struggle to believe that other kids around my age really hated that film and those which succeeded it. I personally loved them and my experience and memory is that my friends loved them too.

A few years back, had you of asked me, I'd of said that the OT was far superior. Then I watched all six Star Wars movies and... they're all kind of terrible. Don't get me wrong, I still love them, nostalgia will do that I suppose, and I still hold that the OT are the better films. I just don't think that the gulf in quality is anywhere near what people would have you believe.

Now I see my nephew watch Star Wars and of course there is no real distinction between the originals and the prequels, there are 6 Star Wars films all of which he enjoys.

Anyway...

Buzzing for this new one and I'm off to see the midnight showing tomorrow. Can't wait!

Eh to be fair that what he was before being burned up and in a state that he would have till he died. Isn't it that a force ghost can appear either with or without injury and scars? Either way still makes more sense to have Hayden than the original actor's non scar mode for consistent sake.

Also the new music was a big improvement heh.

Is it even there anymore? I just watched the Bluray of Jedi a couple days ago and didn't hear it. And I was listening for it.
Crazy you didn't hear it. It's there, and it's horrible.

Just remove the Jabba scene in ANH, Jedi Rocks, the "nnnnnoooo" from Vader in ROTJ and add Sebastian Shaw back in as Anakins ghost and I'd be content with everything else.

It's cute.
But its so silent. Its like the rebels are celebrating in silence, it just looks akward.
Victory Celebration in at least anthem enough, to let it appeared that overlapases all sound of the party.

Its like the throne room scene in ANH, silent it looks akward as shit, but with th big anthem its great and just works.
