Yes, it helps that the core group of original actors has returned, but it's more the energy, humor and simplicity of direction that has been recaptured. It's the overall vibe.

That's all I ever hoped for. I never expected Empire. Just... a good Star Wars film.
So, congrats JJ.

Yep. I'm content with this film simply being a reset button and getting the look and feel of SW back. Now that you've rebuilt the foundation you can move forward with 8 and 9
And 10 and 11 and 12, I bet.
Man my dog keeps wanting to go in-between my legs in bed. So constricting
lolI misread this as "my man dog" three times
I don't want to knowMan my dog keeps wanting to go in-between my legs in bed. So constricting
You lucky doggMwahaha. They cancelled every movie tonight, but announced STAR WARS midnight sessions is going ahead.
Wow, already? It begins!!!RT score begins! There's 1 fresh noted but no blurb or score. RT may have jumped/be jumping the gun.

I ain't reading any of them. The review gives away more than I would've thought smh
So who is planning to see this movie in 3D? Because most of the showtimes in my area seem to be RealD 3D, Digital 3D, or Imax 3D.
And then I read this quote from JJ Abrams.

Good choice. Do what I could not ={I ain't reading any of them.
Converted to 3D.
Guys, how was that ESPN Lightsaber documentary? I missed it in favor of tearing it up in Rainbow Six. lol
Haven't seen it but most tweets I've seen have been singling out Daisy Ridley as best in show and that she's really good. For anyone who has seen the film already, how is the acting/writing/dialogue? That's what will matter to me the most. For all the hammering that the prequels got over its abuse of CGI, or lack of classic Star Wars aesthetic, it was the writing that took me out of the experience. I'm not expecting ESB level greatness, but something that feels earnest, something that's not insultingly bad.

That's good to know. And Daisy Ridley apparently has less acting experience than Natalie Portman did when she did the prequels. I could never understand why Lucas couldn't get a decent performance out of her, seeing as how she did a remarkable job in Leon the Professional. I felt really bad for her in particular because of that reason because I knew she was better than that. Heck, everyone was better than the material they got. Ewan McGregor, Terrence Stamp, Liam Neeson -- all wasted. How can you sap all the charisma out of Samuel L. Jackson? Lucas did that. So unethical, given how tough this line of work is.
How was John Boyega and Oscar Isaacs? I heard that Isaacs was short changed in this film. Wasn't he signed on as a regular, along with Boyega, Ridley, and Driver?
agree. She is proven time and time again to be a quality actress. Her performance in AOTC and ROTS will always be a mystery to me.

Dat waitReally annoying there's no 2D IMAX but alas I will be seeing it in 3D on Sunday. If I like it enough I will go again for 2D Atmos (Only movie I've seen twice in theaters is Fury Road!)
Why does she get a pass in Phantom Menace? Her performance in that was as dreadful in that they were in AOTC and ROTS. Her exchanges with Anakin. Qui Gon, and Boss Nass all sounded like wooden monologues. I know she was younger in PM, but I saw American Beauty that same year and you had decent to excellent performances coming from the two young actresses in that film.
Bad script, awful direction. Never really seemed too mysterious to me.
Hayden Christiansen was even considered a solid up and coming actor before Star Wars.
"Empire" is the second of a planned nine-part series of films, based on a huge script by Lucas. "Star Wars" was episode IV and "Empire" is numbered V — so it is clear they won't be in chronological order. According to published reports, the last segment will view everything through the eyes of the anthropomorphic robots.
So review embargo is up in about 30 minutes? Or is it tomorrow?
