This will be the big bad superweapon to end it all

Just switch it from suck to blow. Problem solved.

Whats up with that storm trooper, Phasma or whatever. I thought there would be a lot more to her character. Hopefully she's the real deal in 8 or 9

Dull and Chrome.

Will have to be something great. Maybe booting her from the New Order could make her interesting.

I think the duel of the fates three way battle was more interesting than the saber battles we got in this movie but it's too be expected as the wielders didn't seem to have much training using them.

It comes down whether you like watching the "kung fu" approach to swordfighting, which is all about flow, or the "samurai" approach to swordfighting, which is more paced and where each individual stroke matters.

this movie sucked. J.J is already a commercially mechanical director and yet i still felt executives at disney had his balls in their hands the entire time.

some baffling story telling decisions. not to mention lame reveals and silly twists. Plus, it was action action action action action... pause for a cool moment, roll credits. fuck this was bad. It's a long the lines of the second Trek film, (not even as good) and no where near the Trek reboot.

I think the Trek reboot worked because it was really funny at times and their actors were really well selected. This movie had none of that besides the ones reprising their iconic roles. Once the hype dies down it's going to get reviewed harshly.

Punished Luke is actually a clone of the real Luke who was actually killed by Rey as a child. Planted there by Snoke for some twisted master plan to turn everyone to the dark side.

I don't even...

How was this not funny and the actors not well selected...

I mean, I'm sorry you didn't like it...

I don't agree. It's too bad you feel that way.

Oh, I think he can pull it off. But will it be the product the closing of this trilogy deserves is the real question.

Man I hope so. Colin is only directing though, and what you're concerned about seems to be whether the story is worthy and that'll be on Rian. Directing is obviously super important but he did a great job on Safety and I would argue for the most part on Jurassic as well though not everyone here would agree.

is this some sort of joke? Going by the same logic, Yoda mentioned Luke was too old to get Jedi training. No amount of rationalization will explain the stupidity of watching Skywalker-trained Kylo Ren being beaten by someone who was wielding a lightsaber for the first time.*

*Unless they pull a Revan-esque storyline for Rey in the subsequent episodes, discovering she actually had undergone rigorous training with Luke but after some freak incident he had to wipe her memory clean for her own safety or something.

Yoda was full of shit about Luke being too old, and was referring to Luke's set-in whiny attitude more than anything.

It was a lot of action, but personally, I never felt like I dragged on in any particular scene. I say this as someone who rarely watches big budget action films anymore because of how goddamn samey they have become and how little interest I have in watching CG fueled spectacle anymore.

Speaking of which, and this is an aside, but this was the first time I've seen a movie in a theater in a long time and holy shit I could barely make it through the trailers. Excluding maybe the Harry Potter universe one, they were all terrible and more or less followed the same formula. The audience was laughing at all of the dumb shit in each of them, so they must work. It made me feel like a jaded asshole for being so annoyed by them.

The new actors were amazing. But to each their own. I feel like we watched two different movies.

Also I hate when people say "in time you will understand that this movie is bad". You don't have to like it but this is the most annoying fucking argument.

What if Han and Leia were so traumatized by what happened with Ben that their minds blocked out the fact that they had another daughter that they left on Jakku?

Does Padme have canon parents? Are we so sure she's not Shmi who is Rey who uses a time travelling microwave?

Punished Luke is actually a clone of the real Luke who was actually killed by Rey as a child. Planted there by Snoke for some twisted master plan to turn everyone to the dark side.
Theory: Snokeface has developed midichlorian parasites that will kill anyone that uses the light side.

I'll take him a second time over Trevorrow!

Oh I actually missed that, I didn't realize they already signed a director for 9. The guy who did Jurassic world and not much else? How did he land Star Wars final movie of this trilogy? That worries me a bit, JW looked thin and CG heavy to me hmmm

there were a few funny parts. all the new actors were poorly selected though, i guess the lead girl was decent but that's it. Isaac was barely in the damn movie so i can't even comment on him.

this whole movie felt rushed. there was no build up, no storytelling, nothing. it was a fucking rehash of all the major plot points of the original flicks. DA FAQ?

i sat there with my mouth open to how lame this was.

Hm, yeah i dunno. i felt like it was exactly everything you just described lol.

JW was fine. It certain had a particular feel about it which I think suited the Jurassic franchise.

I feel SW (OT) always had a more careful style of framing. Pulpy at times, paying homage to Kurosawa, Kubrick and Coppola. Maybe Colin has it in him to be flexible like that. I'm not sure if JJ really pulled of all of that style that George once had and Kershner had. But it didn't feel like you're typical blockbuster. It felt like Star Wars. JW really did feel like it was more of a middle of the road blockbuster production. I'm just worried Colin will bring that.

But JW is the only thing I have seen by him, so maybe I'll be giving him more of a chance once I explore him more.

Kylo Ren isn't as great as you think he is. Shitty students exist. There's plenty of rationalization for it. Hell, just look at his saber, it doesn't even work right.

People expected Maul/Vader 2.0 and didn't get that.

This is OT jedi, not PT fucking Hogwarts Jedi.

Having the highest grossing non-James Cameron movie is pretty good accomplishment to get any directing job.

But I rather have him than say Joss Whedon. Thank you Disney for not letting Whedon do it.

This is not OT Jedi. This is Sequel Trilogy kind of Jedi.

We know Shmi gave birth to anakin, those most powerful force user in existence. What if Shmi found a way to harness and manipulate the midichlorians to travel through time and space?!

I know opinions and all but what? Into Darkness is a poorly paced mess. If you didn't like TFA that's fine but comparing it to that is something I don't get.

Because it's been evidenced time and again with Star Wars.

To be sure, there have always been people who had problems with the prequels, but with every single one of them, we had a bunch of people thinking they were awesome or better than the last one, only to come down from the hype later and revise their opinion.

I like the movie, but it has enough flaws that I can easily see the positive consensus swing the other way once the hype cools down. All it takes is another Plinkett-esque review to permeate through culture and this movie's generally-liked status is gone.

I think I found the beginning:

Rey is a clone of
Shmi Skywalker.

Which SOMEHOW lead to:

And that's why Snoke and Kylo want her. So she can give birth to Anakin again.

guys we did it

mystery solved

i can move on now

No, no we did not do it. NOOooooOooOoO.

Damn fan theories. I'm pretty sure this is something I specified to NOT have happen to Rey.

No more midichlorians babies.

ABORT THESE MIDICHLORIAN BABIES.

Kylo is not the greatest, fine. He lost to someone who didn't even know what a lightsaber looked like mere hours before the battle. They better cram the Revan plot mechanic, otherwise it's absolute bullshit no matter how you slice it.
