Rumor (with a side of salt): Shovel Knight coming to Smash Wii U/3DS?

Ya know, I was going to save money for Smash DLC, but clearly there is nothing left. You can't just fan hype maintenance and do nothing Samurai. So I'm spending my money on the remainder of NSMB2's Gold Rush Packs. If Smash DLC comes out in September, then I can't get it now. Remember, this is your fault Samurai.

So now, I'm going to do a 180 and say that Samurai better not release any DLC in September. If it happens, I won't be able to get it day one. And that is something unforgivable. Because its day one or ELSE. I deserve it day one and if anyone else was able to buy it day one and not me, then they are clearly fools for obvious reasons.

Samurai, don't release any DLC in September or you can kiss your business goodbye.

You know WHY we didn't got anything ?

Because the leask were CRAP.

But now they obviously added some unfinished stuff with the update so people can dig for actual images for better leaks.

You are a very interesting poster

Also, are some still unable to access DLC shops?

The Shovel Knight leak specifically said in the next month or two, they didn't say today.

But we already have the word from several reliable retailers and websites that he's on the way. Do you really think there won't be any new DLC at all until like spring 2016?

Meaningless. We need something more concrete. Something from the game's data. I believe there will be more DLC by the end of the year... just not Shovel Knight

Something more concrete? They're trustworthy. That's as reliable as you can get, more so than the games data. The games data lies, just look at Chorus Kids, or Mewtwo in Brawl.

I swear, never change Smash GAF. People were honestly arguing Ryu wouldn't get in either.

Ryu and Roy had their placeholder files added in an update, though. That's sorta different from the Chorus Kids or Mewtwo. It's not often that junk files just appear suddenly.

Also correct me if I'm wrong, but I didn't think there were very many sources saying Shovel Knight was in Smash. What I thought happened was;
  • Tamaki got a tip about SK being in Smash from a previously reliable source.
  • Tamaki found out about the amiibo that was supposedly Smash-related, with a bunch of retailers backing it up. This corroborated it.
  • The amiibo ended up not being Smash, but Tamaki's original source stuck to their guns. Apparently the amiibo is not part of the rumor.
  • Neozero and Pushdustin of Smashboards said that there's merit to it after talking with Tamaki about details. They can't actually talk much about it because it could compromise the source.
Did I leave anything important out?

I feel like there's not much to go on. The rumor's source is allegedly reliable and has leaked things in the past, but we don't know who they are or how they came to this information, so we can't prove anything. For the same reason, we can't outright refute it either, though. There's not a lot to argue with.

There are very few people who want Shovel Knight in Smash more than I do, but I don't want to get too invested in this, or to the point where people are outright expecting him and become disappointed.

We do not have several reports from all over. There's a few different people (primarily one) who claim to have a source (some say trustworthy) implying SK is coming. It's not this industry widespread thing that everyone seems to be 100% sure of.

This source also provided nothing to back up their claims. It's just some random stranger's word. A random nameless stranger is not "concrete". It is not undeniable proof, and just because one person says the source was trustworthy doesn't mean anything. Ash even said he had no reason to trust the source that shared the info with him.

I think SK is coming, I really do, but you're acting like it's confirmed and you'd be stupid not to believe it. You got all hyped up about tonight's maintenance for zero reason too, your threshold for what's "reliable" seems to be about as low as "some guy told me this so it must be true".

The one leak that got things totally right was a nondescript text post from GameFAQs which I don't recall anyone backing.

as far as i can tell, just the fact that they were doing a simple maintenance sent people (children? reddit?) into madness, but it all happened in like 2 days so thankfully there wasn't enough time for anyone to go full retard...

You can't name reliable sources and then not specify.

Wait, you argue game data lies and then use Ryu as an example of denial, an example of something leaked via game data?

Also, I still find the aspect that retail knows something about Smash DLC highly suspect. As for the SmashBoarders, since I don't know who they are, their word is about as trustworthy as yours or mine.

This is probably old, but:

With Shovel Knight getting an amiibo, many are thinking it's just a matter of time before the character joins the Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS roster. Could that actually be happening? Don't bother asking Yacht Club about it! When they were approached with the topic, Yacht Club's Sean Velasco simply stated, "No, we don't have anything to say about that."

Yeah, they've danced around commenting on the rumor on twitter as well lately. I don't think it means anything though. Ubisoft also refused to comment when the Rayman stuff was going on IIRC.

Though Tamaki claimed that the rumor was "strengthened" a little today. With retailers like Amazon getting access to digital Nintendo products, it may explain how his retailer source may have known about Smash dlc.

Eh. They're probably following the same philosophy/instructions Xander Mobus (The Announcer) did with the whole Rayman hoax; regardless of whether or not he's in the game, saying anything would get them in trouble with Nintendo. So we can't dig anything out of this.

Speaking of the whole "Don't comment at all" deal, I hope Chris Miller (Prof. Layton) didn't get in trouble for speculating that he just voiced Layton for Smash! I mean, assuming he's wrong, he's not tied to Nintendo, and he doesn't represent Level 5. Still, I fear there may be repercussions for mere insinuations. Same for Adam Howe, since we now know he guessed right about Shulk.

The only way they would be obligated to remain silent is if they were under an NDA, and the only reason they would be under an NDA is if they have something to do with Smash in the first place, be it a costume or a character or a trophy.

Like I've said before, when they were asked about the ballot in the past they always urged people to vote for Shovel Knight. They've stopped doing that altogether.

Maybe they're just playing coy, then? Or they just got something minor like a costume, and were told that they can't get anything better at the moment? I dunno; I totally think Shovel Knight's possible, and I'd love for him to get in, but I still maintain my doubts.

Or maybe they want to keep good ties with Nintendo.

Basic policy is not to comment on speculation and rumours.

Also, referring to their "vote in the ballot" posts before, that isn't commenting on rumour and speculation so not really comparable.

I think something related to Shovel Knight is coming to Smash. Maybe it is a song, or a stage, or a trophy, or a costume, or a full fledged-character if we get lucky. There's just a lot of weird talk going on around for it to be nothing.

EDIT: And just for shitz and gigglez, "leaks" lol

A costume is a good possibility.

They do certainly seem to dancing around something.

How would denying it get them in trouble? If SK isn't in Smash, they never signed an NDA, so they should be able to freely state SK isn't in Smash.

They're not saying that because either SK is in Smash, or they just like the attention SK is getting from this and want to play along for as long as possible.

Man, what a shame. I honestly thought I'd asked on Twitter, their response would have been "He'll be in the game, but we wont reveal him for a few months because it will be a surprise reveal". Instead they're not saying that? No way he's in.

How's the packing going?

Slowly, to be honest. It's looking like it's going to take awhile - I might not be finished until late November or early December.

Really now. All the rumors have stated that if he's in, he'll be revealed somewhere around October or November. Him not being revealed at PAX was never an 100% confirmation that the rumors are false.

Where's your reliable sources now?
