It's so weird seeing a turret sequence in a main FF game.
FF8 had a turret sequence (cutscene that is) and the demos that had FF8 usually ended with the turret sequence.
As for the Dragoon Lady.
It's no different than A Realm Reborn (which gets praised often) where all female armors seemingly have cleavage or their entire midriff or something revealed all of a sudden compared to male armors of the same type. Dragoon armor in FF14 ARR is revealing for females compared to males.
FF11 in comparison mostly have parity between male and female armor with exceptions that make sense (like Dancer Empyrean Armor which has a vast difference but that's because it actually fits the theme).
Now, I'm not saying I don't like it but if people are criticizing the FF15 Dragoon Lady, they should also criticize the armor designs in ARR. Half of the female armors in ARR have a lot of exposed areas compared to the male characters of the same type.
Anyway, as for FF15 - FF games have always been attempts at being unique.
I have been more of a PC player but the FF games have not aged well.
Let's take StarCraft: Brood War (for example). SC1 is one of my favorite games of all time. Even after playing SC2, I sometimes go play SC1 and in terms of pure gameplay, the game is just fluid and fast paced and there's a lot of neat stuff you can do with units in SC1 compared to SC2. A comparison is probably Super Smash Bros: Melee compared to the sequels.
That's one game where I can just go back and play the game just for the gameplay alone and still have a fun time.
FF games are more just for the unique experience for the first time.
FF1-6 is not really comparable to a table top RPG. The same for FF7-10.
Final Fantasy has (and still is) always been a more "cinematic" or "immersive" type series. Each game attempts to bring out the best in graphics, music, and world for people to immerse themselves in.
In terms of the actual gameplay, FF games have mostly been "Press A to win" type games. Not much difficulty or depth in the combat compared to traditional RPGs or PC games.
Not only that but the main quest is usually linear. Sure there's hidden stuff to find but unlike a table top RPG, you don't need to exploit every rule just to survive in an FF game.
Now, the only reason I am mentioning this is that in most FF threads, I always see a lot of negativity. I have never been really impressed with any FF game "except"
FF11 Seekers of Adoulin (and that's because it's one of the few Japanese games or few games in general to really stand out and offer a lot of depth and unique experiences with its content).
FF14 ARR is more or less a traditional action bar GCD MMO just with FF themes and mini games. FF games (except 11 and I'd argue the original version of FF14) have been more or less traditional games. The main selling points of FF games have always been more about presentation.
Is there really anything in FF games that does something that amazing or unique compared to low budget games? FF1 was an attempt to replicate table top RPG for consoles, and its a decent simulation but FF1 (and none of the FF games) aren't very close to a traditional table top RPG.
In terms of actual RPG elements, combat, etc, the FF series have always been just decent at best.
However, the FF games are still great at presentation.
It's still the same here and Square seems to be doing a decent job.
I'm happy with Square because they gave me Final Fantasy XI: Seekers of Adoulin which is one of the most unique and interesting experiences I had in any game.
Anything else is a bonus.
