"Stella's still in" is to the FF fanbase as "David Hayter's voicing Solid Snake in MGSV" is to the MGS fanbase.

Not really.

I love MGS but David Hayter only provided a voice and they can always find someone to approximate it, Snake's character isn't just the voice actor. If they wanted to make a MGS6 with Snake they easily could.

Stella on the other hand presented a strong, tough female character, completely non-sexualized but instead totally badass and possibly a rival to Noctis. She was removed and instead we get damsel in distress Luna. HUGE downgrade.

This doesn't say "damsel in distress" to me at all.

There's the possibility Luna renames herself Stella later on in the game as well. Just throwing guesses out there.

Didn't the end of episode duscae have a part where it said Luna died at the peace treaty party?

Maybe she wants people to think she's dead, so she dyes her hair dark blonde and goes by the alias of Stella.

Yeah, this artwork pretty much made me feel okay about Luna. :)

It's also what made me confused about the change in the first place, but I already said that. I really do love her demeanour there and I hope they capture it well in the game.

Although I do feel like they should have been showing more of her in the past footage we've gotten so far. I guess there's march to look forward to for that, but Square really hasn't been doing a good job at alleviating people's fears outside of the battle footage we got now.

Those kind of speculations are entering the realm of "Tabata is tricking us" or "David Hayter Redux" talk imo.

A part of me is definitely disappointed that Luna doesn't appear to be sharing the conceptual motif of Stella's where she was presented as Noctis's opposite spectrum as a fighter as well.

I don't mean it in the sense that Luna is not one, but Luna from what is shown of her so far feels closer to the space where characters like Yuna/Aerith is, rather than someone like say Lightning or Stella. (inb4lightninghate)

But that doesn't diminish what Luna could be. And it's also a bit unfair to overassume what Stella was to be in the original vision. We know so little about either Stella or Luna in the first place.

It's a pity that Luna has to carry the baggage of the "change" caused from the transition from VsXIII to XV, but the ball is on Tabata to deliver on a compelling character and character arc. There's really all there is to it.

Eh, this might just be a result of the fan base having years to overanalyze the Versus info we had and grow attached to it but I really feel like we know more about Stella and Versus XIII in general than people tend to give credit for.

That doesn't say anything about Luna though. Definitely in agreement with you overall.

Stella would instantly win that fight by virtue of her being in a short dress. Any aerial combat would give Noctis a severe nosebleed.

holy shit, between luna, cidney, gentiena, and now areana, FFXV is pushing for the best collection of waifus this year. and people keep calling it a sasusage fest lol

My guess is they decided to have Noctis age by the end of the game so they needed a design and just re-purposed BEST Regis as that instead of getting Nomura to make something new.

idk.

So many ava contains end game spoilers?

Sorry everyone for ruining the game.

They may have removed Stella because she was too connected to the FNC mythos (and because Nomura wanted Versus XIII to be a series of games instead of one game).

There was this in 2011 where someone talked with someone in an IRC channel who said Stella was supposed to actually be a Crystal on Pulse or something.

Now, that may be sound crazy but remember that FF Versus XIII was Nomura's story.

Nomura did say Stella wasn't supposed to be like other FF girls. A plot twist like that would have worked.

Still sounds less crazy than anything in Kingdom Hearts these days.

Edit - I actually think that story would have been interesting since it would have portrayed the Crystals (fal'Cie) side of the story which we never got much in the XIII series (a little in Type-0).

Heh, i actually thught the same at TGS.

I think they'll have an ending/post-credit scene like the first VersusXIII CGI trailers but with an old Noctis that will resemble OG Regis.

Ummm nothing in that article matches up with what we know about the story today. If they had predicted a few things correctly (place names or something), maybe I'd believe it. Sounds like complete fan fiction as it is.

Yeah, I was saying that was supposedly the original story before Versus XIII changed to XV and the only reason I posted that link is because of the recent Stella discussion.

So, the link in that post doesn't match up today since the story changed drastically (if it was real; if it's fanfic then obviously not in that case). Though, I'm not saying it's real or anything (it is very likely it's just some random fanfic; also to the blogger's credit, they only posted what they heard from IRC channels and that wasn't something they made up himself) but I just wanted to comment on the recent Stella discussion.

None of what was described in the link you posted lines up with ANYTHING known of Final Fantasy Versus XIII's story. It's all made up, total BS.

Like this part:

Basically, 1000+ years ago, Novus was a beautiful utopia. Then, all of the nations’ crystals got corrupted by “the Nothing”, an unexplainable, indescribable enemy. The crystals, corrupted, were no longer capable of producing electricity, or food, or light–instead, they were causing the planet to rot. And so Novus had to get rid of them before they destroyed the planet.

The world players traverse in FF13 Versus is a world without crystals, and so it’s pretty barren and ruinous. It’s not post-apocalyptic, but the world is definitely dying.

Total, utter, complete BS. We know that the world of FFVsXIII still had one crystal left, the crystal that Noctis' family was in charge of in Lucis. We know that the other crystals were destroyed in wars waged over the control of them, not because they "rotted" the planet. And the world of FFVsXIII certainly wasn't supposed to be "barren & ruinous", Nomura said that the more showy fantasy elements would just increase as we got away from the more modern looking city of Insomnia.

EDIT: Holy shit this just gets crazier & crazier the further you read it. Noctis' father isn't real, Noctis killed him a 1000 years ago and is now just seeing things? megalulz XD

That moment when you put 2 and 2 together and connect the Chapter 3 comments and the MGS-esque gameplay from the new trailer

just watched it, gotta admit that was pretty cool. really dig the enemy faction, and the combat looked great. that missile dodge was straight Neo. and a dragoon, her name is even Highwind? overall thought the combat and enemies were great.

can we equip different armor or outfits in this game?

In the link, it doesn't say crystal directly but it does say that Noctis is in charge of the Moon Cryst which could be the crystal mentioned in the public plot synopsis. So, no contradiction there assuming the Moon Cryst is supposedly that last crystal (in the link, it says that last crystal was hidden, so I assume that's why it starts with saying that all the crystals are gone even though there is still one remaining potentially). As for the rotting the planet thing, it was suppose to be part of the plot twist which was later revealed.

Anyway like I said before, I'm not saying it's real but I just wanted to post that link (made up or not) because of the recent Stella discussion.

Edit - Replying to some additional posts on the previous page.

Thanks!

But hmm. To be honest the wording there makes me think the logo was supposed to be Etro even more but that's me getting really speculatory there. We really don't know enough about the gods in Versus / XV to make such an assumption, but I was under the impression that Etro was supposed to be the most important Goddess in Versus. I really think this just is a result of them distancing themselves from the whole Fabula Nova Crystallis thing. Which is a shame because I thought that was one of the most enjoyable parts about XIII.

And I do think they look very similar. But at the very least they're both goddesses so there'll always be some shared elements I suppose.

In a 2013 interview, Toriyama did apparently mention that was Etro (though she isn't now since XV isn't connected with FNC anymore).

I have no idea what the hell was going on, but looks great. Haven't played any demo of FFXV so still somewhat concerned by the combat system, but cannot wait to give it a go.
