Anoop wrote this? Thanks for digging this out.

Yup no problem! I am actually finding some interesting little tidbits that have stuck around since Versus.

It's crazy but I've also noticed some of the Versus-era Nomura interviews have simply disappeared from the Web due to age. Eight to ten years is a long time for content to live on the web.

Yeah it is ridiculous. I remember reading it so clearly but was questioning my own sanity before I found that :lol

Just watched the thing for the first time on and HD monitor, and it was the direct feed. Smiling like an idiot right now.

I'd love to see a scene with Noctis in a suit. Sucks that we don't get the peace treaty party scene.

Well the peace treaty still happens. It's just Noct and co aren't there for some reason. Which is bizarre to me as it makes the most sense to have the main character involved in something that important.

What I want to know is, what do they do instead that's so worthy of being the opening of the game?
I have a feeling it was reworked for budgetary reasons as opposed to them coming up with something so cool they just HAD to change it.

Fighting Titan? I hope not as there appears to be a bit of story before that with the car breaking down so they don't exactly start with that battle.

This is so cool:

The horrible Duscae mission is the start of the game right? If the crystal was stolen already, they'd be a little more upset I'd think.

It could possibly be the attack on Altissia. The one we see in the E3 2013 trailer. Since the cuts they show there aren't as crazy warpy high level as the shots in Insomnia are.

Tabata said they modified it not to give any spoilers and that the story for the demo was seperate. So I don't think it is too indicative of the beginning.

There has to be some sort of excuse for Noctis and Co to not be in the Kindgom. Unless, Regis or Cor encouraged them to go out and enjoy themselves due to safety reasons, cause during the jump festa Noctis is a bit concern seeing all those imperial ships and the radio is a busted.

Yeah. Honestly out of all the changes from Versus that's the one that hurts the most for me.

Regis and his design change is a weird one. It has already been discussed in this thread just a while ago but I too feel like there's more to that change than they've told us. I wouldn't be surprised if the old design shows at a certain point and/or if it's a story reason like ageing due to holding down the crystal barrier. And if not it's just a design change. An unfortunate one to me since I prefer the old design and a weird one because it doesn't strike me as the sort of change you'd make late in development but still just a design change.

The Stella / Luna change baffles me simply because the two characters seem so similar. They obviously share design elements, surnames and seemingly have a similar role in the story. So why make the change? They weren't as major as the Luna one but Stella had gotten redesigns before. Wouldn't it have been easier for Square to simply... keep the name? Wouldn't that have kept more people pleased? This one I really just don't get at all and the explanation they've given doesn't make much sense to me either. Unless there's a story reason here too? Either way at least you can argue the character still lives on in XV even though she has gone through major changes. So I can make peace with that even if I don't get it.

But the old opening sounded like a really powerful scene. The party, that glorious Amano painting of Etro... That stuff all sounded really magical to me. And of course it doesn't help that it's the one scene they made sure to keep showing in trailers back then. I don't know, all I can say about that one is that changing that opening doesn't strike me as an improvement and that's a shame. I can't think of a good reason to move your main character to a different location considering the event's still there and it's such a major one. And honestly I think there's a reason for feeling that way. I'm pretty sure they made that change out of budgetary reasons and nothing else. I hope that's not the case and we're getting something even better. But I really don't think so.

Which makes me wonder, is Etro even in the game still? She's in the damn logo but then again they said they had gotten rid of the XIII Fabula Nova terminology and Etro is part of that. So what's up with that? And is the seeing dead souls thing still in? That's an other part I'm really curious about that's closely linked to Etro. In general they seem to have removed Lucis's death cult related elements and I definitely don't like that. I really liked that stuff.

I really got a feeling this game will be one of Square Enix's best developed games. Go for it, Tabata!!! I don't have any more concerns and fears... all thanks to him.

1. I think it is due to there being some significance with the moon was simply the name change. Instead of stars the moon may be an object of some sort of significance? I am just speculating quite wildly but it kind of makes sense to me.

2. She is but not named Etro most likely.

The woman in the logo is still in the game but I don't think she was ever actually confirmed to be Etro, even in the Versus days. It's just the most probable conclusion. She could end up being Noctis's mom for all we know.

Yeah. I'm guessing there's at least some story connection that makes the Luna name significant. Not much sense in changing the name otherwise.

Same with Stella though. This is pure speculation but I always thought the name Stella itself was a reference to 'the light of expiring souls'. Stars being the souls.

Well... Type-0 was middling and the story was kinda even worse than FFXIII IMO...

The woman in the painting was confirmed to be Etro though and I know Amano designs can get samey but that made it prettty obvious they were one and the same

In a recent interview with Gamespot he mentioned that the woman in the logo isn't necessarily Etro. Gamespot's a bit iffy, but that sounds pretty definitive.

"The woman in the Final Fantasy XV logo--drawn by series artist Yoshitaka Amano--isn't necessarily Etro, the goddess of death mentioned in earlier trailers for Final Fantasy Versus XIII. She is, however, the most important goddess in XV's world, and Amano's original sketch of her was the inspiration for her character."

Yeah and one simple thing to back up both of us is that Stella wore star earrings and Luna has a moon pendant on her necklace

Hahaah let's not bring up the disaster known as Type-O... Really should've came to Vita instead of PS4. Sloopy mission structure and not really connecting with any character just ruined the game for me.

But Tabata is redeeming himself with XV!

The question is, is the Etro painting still in FFXV?

Got a link to that? I'd love to read the exact wording.

I definitely wouldn't be surprised if she's no longer Etro but I really can't imagine that not being the original intention.

Concerning Stella, I wouldn't be surprised if they've been lying to us and Stella actually is still in the game. SE is pretty good with keeping things under wraps and the reveals for XV have been very controlled.

We'll never see the actual goddess herself anyway. Deities in the FNC are all amorphous and largely absent. We never see an in-game representation of Etro or the other deities (granted, I haven't finished LR so I don't know if Bhunivelze is an actual corporal entity we fight), and the artwork for them is, in-universe, just a depiction or symbolization of them.

I wouldn't be surprised if the deity was re-purposed in order to distance FFXV from the Fabula Nova Crystallis mythology.

Learning some new things I didn't know in this thread.

If it's not Etro then its Muin.

And yes there is an actual Bhunivelze

One of my friends said that this game was going to be the Skyrim of JRPGs, but this makes it look more like Metal Gear.

Seriously though, this game is looking fantastic, and I'm loving the music.

EDIT: Wait a minute, did I see character switching in there?

For a while I was convinced they were both in too. Duscae ending says Luna's been found dead so I figured there was some kind of switcheroo element going on there between the two. But I feel like Tabata would have been more ambiguous when it came to Stella if that were the case. I dunno!

I edited the post above.

Honestly, they don't look all too similar. FNC has multiple deities as well so I don't think it has to be Etro, either.

Thanks!

But hmm. To be honest the wording there makes me think the logo was supposed to be Etro even more but that's me getting really speculatory there. We really don't know enough about the gods in Versus / XV to make such an assumption, but I was under the impression that Etro was supposed to be the most important Goddess in Versus. I really think this just is a result of them distancing themselves from the whole Fabula Nova Crystallis thing. Which is a shame because I thought that was one of the most enjoyable parts about XIII.

And I do think they look very similar. But at the very least they're both goddesses so there'll always be some shared elements I suppose.

Does anyone remember Tabata calling the summons (or deities) by another name in the ATR? He didn't call them Archaeans. He called them something else, when explaining how terrain affected by elemental magic would revert back to its original state.

Is this even FNC still? Last time it was mentioned was E3 2013. Nomura/Nojima were still on the project. A lot has changed since then, didn't they even drop death worship or something? I haven't followed the game closely but I wouldn't be surprised if they are not going to mention FNC or anything related to that in this game.

The bit of really speculative information that has me the most interested is Regis not passing down kingship. In some earlier trailers he says to someone that he will be the last king, it was not Noctis. Also the throne that Regis sits on in the Versus and now the new ones that we have seen is different from the one that we see Noctis sitting in. So I am curious as to how that turns out even if it is still part of the game. Maybe it is a foreshadowing that Noctis will die or has to die in order to preserve the world or something along those lines.

I saw it translated as Astrals at a point.

I could see them using analogues for deities and concepts from the Fabula Nova Crystallis lore without invoking "l'Cie" or "fal'Cie".

I think that was it. Could they have changed what summons are called?

This interview talks about the changes from Versus in general and XV and its place in the FNC so it's pretty relevant concerning the discussions we're having in this thread just now. It's from August 2015.

If I'm reading this right XV is still considered part of the FNC but won't use its terminology.

Hence me wondering about Etro.

The FNC concepts are so light that you can repurpose them to be something else. That's why those elements probably remain, and Tabata hasn't said that it's been cut. It's definitely been changed, though.

Right, I think they will appropriate everything and there won't be any FNC name drop or similar even if the content would fit FNC.

"Stella's still in" is to the FF fanbase as "David Hayter's voicing Solid Snake in MGSV" is to the MGS fanbase.
