FINAL FANTASY XV - Niflheim Base Battle Footage

If the IQ is that bad like in the screenshot posted in the final game on PS4, I don't know if I can enjoy this game tbh.
It won't be. SQEX is just a master of fucked up screenshots that are not representative of their games in motion, in recent years. All of their games look like shit in screenshots for some weird reason. I don't know how they are taking screenshots. Even Episode Duscae didn't have that bad of an IQ (even with PS Share) and Tabata has said time & time again they have improved IQ from that.

I wouldn't get your hopes up about "ring magic" adding all your Meteors & such. The ring magic seems more like all the crazy shit that you'll be able to do with Noctis alone (Phantom Swords/Armiger, maybe improving/adding to Noctis' zero-shifting abilities etc.), not necessarily something that adds lots of magic beyond the elemental magic stuff.

Hmm isn't it mentioned that the sword techniques are also something passed down the line of kings in addition to the ring magic?

Well if you can wait I'm sure the eventual PC version will be up to standard. Same reason I'm gonna try and see how it preforms when it comes out on PS4, if it's acceptable I'll play, if not I'll drop it like BB. More worried about the framerate then the IQ tbh.

To those who watched the latest ATR,

did you hear the part where they asked Tabata if the burnt grass would remain like that, if you come back later? What followed was the best BS reason to explain why that isn't good for the games memory system.
Tabata went on to say something along the lines of, magic comes from the earth so when is used is also restores the land after a period of time, since it goes back to the earth.
That was pure Genius, and I'm almost certain he made that up right on the spot.

Kudos to you Tabata!

Color me impressed. Everything looks pretty great: combat, visuals, music, etc. I can already sense that I'm going to suck on the stealth section, but I'm liking what I'm seeing. Looks way better than the demo.

This is what fans created almost entirely in their heads. There's very little that actually displays any of this.

Stella was an idea; she was potential. I agree with both, but I also recognize what they are, which is: not enough to constitute an actual character.

There's really nothing stopping Luna from being compelling in the same ways.

It also ignores previous Stella dialog where she was completely submissive to Noctis.

I doubt this, just because Duscae linked these powers directly to the relic swords Noctis found and because Noctis is able to summon his weapons and perform other such actions that could be construed as this kind of "magic" at the start of the game, before he gets the royal ring. Combine this with Tabata's comment that there are spells beyond fire/thunder/blizzard and I'd be pretty surprised if the ring magic didn't manifest as magical spells.

I don't even know what to make of this footage. It looks beautiful, there is no doubting that.

But stealth? Turrets? I mean I don't even know what the hell is happening here. Am I watching Final Fantasy? Because it looks a helluva lot more like Metal Gear or Assassin's Creed....

This footage just made me nervous.

What do you mean?

There were stealth sections in FF7, and it had tons of mech/guns/turret like machines. The frist 2 bosses you fight are mech (Guard Scorpion and Airbuster).

FF8 had Quistis use a huge turret to shoot down the robot spider that tries to kill you in the Dollet mission.

FFX had the al bhed using guns and heavy machinery/mech weapons to fight Sin.

I could go on....

That is kinda stupid.
IIRC, optimazation and graphical upgrades comes late in game development, I wouldn't worry too much.

Yes, but 99 % of games look better or equal before the release.

Only thing I'm kinda disappointed in is that the magic seems somewhat limited. Granted we don't know what ring magic does but I can only guess it'll allow him to do all that crazy sword summoning we've seen before. Having just the three elements is okay, I just hope they level up and at least get changes to their visuals as you get stronger versions of them (if its possible)

I was reaaaally hoping to see some Ultima or maybe even Gravity or Earth magic. Oh well..

I keep rewatching the footage. It's so good. I wonder if the stealth entirely breaks if you just go out and attempt to fight everything. Like would clusters go back to not alert modes if you clear an area out, or is it all action at that point.

I don't even know what that question was implying. Did that player think that burnt areas would be permanently changed for the entire freaking game? Did they think enemies disappeared after death for some in-game reason unrelated to memory allocation?

IMO, everything technical during ATR's can be largely taken with a grain of salt, as evidenced by the "milestones" being things like "fixed pathfinding bug" when we didn't know such a bug even existed. I expect the next ATR to let us know they fixed that one memory leak, you know, that one.

I would rather he just did the attack instead of the camera focusing on something you can't even control.

Wait what, so you would rather have him being solo all the time?
Well there is the option not to used your party commands I guess.
I would rather be able to switch players, but I'm just beating a dead horse :(

Nah, I mean sure, I would like to be able to control party commands, but the camera doesn't have to take control of the player to execute it.

Unless you let me control that character, but since that is literally impossible, they should allow us to stay in control of Noctis during these actions.

Dragons dogma has an option to toggle what they called "Cinematic Camera "
Ever played that game? Maybe FFXV will allow such toggle option, this would fix you dilemma.

Those things happen so briefly and infrequently though they don't really bother me.

In FFXV the camera stays focused on non controllable actions during their whole action, and that's far too long.

Yeah, he should be in the main team. He's like the cool uncle

The cool uncle/ father/ older brother / mentor figure nearly always gets killed off.

It's standard procedure for character development in coming of age type scenario's (protagonist has to learn to stand on their own / overcome the loss etc).

Cor may get a pass because Regis fulfils that quota, but I wouldn't count on it

True, you know sometimes Devs have ideas that sound good on paper but when executing them, they forget that players will be punished to see these animation over and over.Unless they speed them up by a gazillion times, I think I will end up not using them often.

With this awesome warping technique they can design tons of interesting boss mechanics, puzzles, set pieces..etc !!! im hoping for amazing summon battles.
