Deadpool is one of the most fun movies in a quite some time. Not every joke hits, but the ones that do are uproariously funny. It's a fine line between a straightforward superhero movie and a spoof, and Deadpool rides that line in a really intriguing way. The plot may be generic, but who cares? We're watching for Deadpool, and this introduces that character perfectly. The action is more a mixed bag. Sometimes it's really easy to follow and just exhilarating, but it also can be a poorly cut mishmash of scenes. The debut direction is a bit obvious at points, but there are moments of true inspiration.

The cast is fantastic. TJ Miller and Morena Baccarin are both great unpowered supporting roles, the former being good comic relief in a DEADPOOL movie and the latter being a big reason this has the best love story in a superhero movie since the first Captain America film. The two X-Men who make appearances are also excellent, and although the movie doesn't need them, it justifies the entire cinematic universe for the sheer humor it adds in a meta way. Meta humor always works for this particular viewer, and Deadpool owns that in spades. A lot of the material comes from Ryan Reynolds' career, who is perfect as Deadpool. He's legitimately one of the most perfect castings for a comic book character, up there with Robert Downey Jr. and J.K. Simmons.

Deadpool works best when it's making fun of itself, but that's a disservice to how well it works as a comedy. Hopefully the inevitable Deadpool 2 amps up the action (and budget), but if that's at the cost of the fun character work and the hilarious cast shining brightly, I'd be fine with another outing like this. Deadpool is the best comic book movie since Guardians of the Galaxy, and an shockingly enjoyable romp.

Pretty much agree with all this. Great movie. My one niggle is that I would have liked some more moments of pathos for Deadpool (there were two really good ones:
during his torture sequence, one where he's talking with the fellow prisoner, the other while the place is burning down; and the one where he's following Vanessa

I'm honestly really surprised how much I enjoyed this. Deadpool stuff online has always really annoyed me more than anything, and the marketing came off as obnoxious to me, but the film just really totally worked. So many great moments.

So since the movie is such a success, what are the chances Negasonic Teenage Warhead will show up again in the X-Men comics?

When you think about this, this is exactly what Fox needed. Let's be honest, one of the biggest draws of the X Men was Jackman's Wolverine. Now they have a new perfectly casted character that could draw in fans. The X Men movies could use the slightly subdued X Force-style Deadpool.

This was such an amazing movie. They really nailed the character and the theater laughed harder at this movie than any other in recent memory.

If anyone has an extra Imax deadpool poster I can buy hit me up.

Quoted for truth. Well said. It's great that they did so much with the budget
and poked fun at it.

...Chika chika.

I'm sick of the regular superhero movies, but this one has my attention piqued. It looks like a lot of fun, like Guardians of the Galaxy, and not just the same old Cap or Avengers schtick.

I thought about going Friday or Saturday night, but didn't. Maybe I'll go tonight or tomorrow. I have a free movie ticket that should get me into Ultra AVX or D-Box for free, although the latter sounds kind of dumb.

You missed the moment when
he's crying in the middle of the night and then makes the joke about Liam Neeson in Taken to cover it up.

It had way more serious moments than I thought it would, which I liked a lot.

Oh yeah, that was really good. Come to think of it, those serious parts were almost as good as the jokes, in their own way. They definitely added a necessary dimension to the character.

That's one of the reasons I thought the
flashback sequences
were really well done.

This movie is the most fun i ever had in a long time from tbe beginning with the sublime subtle notices towards everything from Ryan himself to every gag joke you can think off. Even the whole audience was laughing so damn hard i could not believe it and nearly the whole theater was packed this morning here in the netherlands i went to Pathe de Kuip i think a lot of dutchies here know it.

Also people please untill the end credits i laughed my ass off...this is my movie of the year already and i think i am going back to it next week i missed i think some stuff but good god this was entertaining.

Thank you ryan reynolds you made this movie and it was a long road but it was worth every penny to see it.

That piece had me in stitches.

Watched the movie last night and it was fantastic so will watch again next week.

Brilliant action and the humour when it hit was brilliant. The baby hand scene had me in a mess haha

One of the best damn comic book movies ever

I feel like colossus is a parody of the main PG-13 X-Men films, what's with him recruiting Deadpool to join X-Men and the numerous righteous superheroes comments.

Did anybody else feel like it was too short. I mean it was really good but it ended and me and my girlfriend thought it would be longer. Seemed characters weren't really in it too long or something.

I think Reynolds really understand the character and what makes it fun, I think he'll succeed again.

So is this supposed to take place in the same universe as the X-Men movies? Because Colossus wasn't Russian or nearly as big in X-Men 3 and DoFP, right? And of course there's the whole issue of Wade Wilson being in Origins Wolverine, but whatever, that movie can just be written off as non-canon.

It's canon. We're in a different timeline after Days of Future Past. The events in X-Men 1-3, Origins and The Wolverine either didn't take place or took place differently in this timeline.

In Sweden, our ratings for R-rated movies is that no one is allowed under the age of 15, no exceptions, which I find is great. Who in their right mind takes a kid to see a R-rated film? You can do that at home, not when I have payed 12 dollars to see a movie. I don't care if you watch Child's Play-marathons or Serbian Film-saturday with popcorn at home with your 5 or 13-year old, don't take your child with you in a public setting which is aimed for adults!

Other than that, the movie was awesome! Whole theater quiet (which is common for moviegoers in Sweden), funny jokes, nice story, good action, nice effects :).

Could have done with less romance and the need to make that the "real" MacGuffin, instead of him trying to get his normal looks back, and more just straight Deadpool action. Hopefully now that he "has the girl" the sequel can really go all in on the action and comedy. That was my one tiny problem in a movie I absolutely enjoyed and can't wait to see again.

We love this movie! Amazing, hilarious, perfect, fabulous!

Apparently this film is amazing and faithful...so I cannot wait to see the faces of people at FOX when they ask each other "why haven't we been approaching X Men properties this way for the past 15 years again?"

great job , hopefully Fox gets a clue and realizes what they have with the license to Xmen properties. Fingers crossed for Cable.

It's in the same universe, but likely a different timeline than both X3/Origins and DoFP.
There's a moment when Colossus says he's going to take Deadpool to Xavier and Deadpool asks if it's McCavoy or Stewart. I think he says something about timelines being confusing afterwards but the cinema was too busy laughing I couldn't exactly hear it.

Don't worry, I felt exactly the same way. *old person fistbump*

I didn't hate it by any means, just from all the hype I was thinking it was gonna be hysterical. Maybe I just don't have that kind of sense of humor.

I liked it more than you did but I'm in a similar boat. The conclusion I've come to is that a lot of it comes down to preferences in humor. Deadpool wasn't really situational comedy or even character comedy, it was rapid fire gags, witticisms, and references. That definitely felt true to the character which is probably why I didn't enjoy quite as much as everyone else. I don't mind the Deadpool character and have enjoyed him in the past but I've never been taken with him. Additionally, the trailers spoiled a lot of the best gags and I subsequently didn't laugh as much as I thought I would. I was still thoroughly entertained but it quickly became apparent that the comedy wasn't the best fit for my tastes.

I'm still extremely happy this movie got made though and that it's doing so phenomenally at the BO.

Alright good, I'm not alone at least. I think I'm a bit harsher on the movie than I intend to be because everyone else in the theater and then the world seemed to think it was amazing and it totally didn't work for me.

Oddly, I thought Colossus was the funniest character in the film despite him playing a super archetypal character.

Sure its Valentines Day and all, but it was crazy going to the cinema here in England and seeing people turn away because multiple showings were sold out.

I was worried for this one since none of the jokes really made me laugh in the trailers, but actually sitting and watching the film brought everything together and there were a lot of laughs, which I wasn't sure it'd get being here in the UK.

Lots of highlights. One which might get lost in all the more obvious things to mention -
Loved the 'one upping' between Wade and Vanessa, especially at the end. Wasn't expecting subtleties like that here.

saw the movie with my wife this morning and we both really enjoyed it

glad it's doing so well in the BO too!

good movie. not a big fan of all the sexual jokes and stuff, but I didn't really know much about deadpool prior to seeing, so maybe that's just something about his character. but definitely worth watching!

That moment when you saw it the first show opening night, and your wife says "we should go see it again tomorrow." You nailed it Fox.

Totally agree with you there. I really liked how it played out in the end. Glad to see someone else bring it up.

Saw it yesterday and it was awesome! Specifically my friend Gina was great in this and happy to see her acting career take off!

Yup. I hope she shows up in the sequel. Loved the scene when she was fighting Colossus and he's like oh and holds up his hand while she fixes her gear. That scene was hilariously funny.

Just came back, found it kind of hit or miss. Some parts I really enjoyed (
the cab driver stuff, the blind lady
), but I think in general it felt like it was trying too hard.

I don't regret watching it but I wouldn't see it again.

Just got back from watching this movie with the girl I've been dating for 2 months and oh my god was it hilarious. She and I both loved it, right from the opening credits I knew I was going to love the shit out of this movie and I was right.

Funniest scene for me was
when Deadpool got pissed at Colossus and repeatedly broke his limbs on him.

Definitely one my top 5 superhero movies of all time.
