I enver felt like grabs were this annoying in 4, here someone will jump in just to fucking grab you

even if you try to jab he will grab you

then when you try to grab them, your character will fucking whiff it for no reason, when you try to tech, you will get grabbed anyways, no tech for you

Every single laura i've seen was ridiculous, jump in/cross up into grab and it worked every single time even when I knew it and tried to tech :I

And then when I finally grab someone it gets rolled back then I get my face KOed lol. Fucking game

You know you can't tech command throws right?
The problem that I don't see brought up a lot is that because you earn fight money in ranked, ragequitters are literally stealing actual money from you.
Which is why they need to get FM taken from them for each rage quit.

Guys, this is super, super, super stupid, but I want to learn a new character because Dhalsim might be too good. I'm a reverse tier wh_re and it's making me feel bad about the people I poke to death from across the screen, lol.
I wouldn't say he's "too good," because of the amount of work you have to put into him against legitimately good players makes him one of the most demanding characters in V overall. Majority of the other characters out there are more lenient in different ways and most players (even at tourney level) aren't fully aware about his unique nuances yet.

Yeah, I mean, I lose plenty of times (I'm terrified of Cammy and Karin the most, lol), but my best friend mains Gief... and jeez. I know it's dumb and irrational, but I prefer playing mid or low tier characters.
Your friend needs to figure out which buttons work at which distances. Three examples:

oapocx.gif

Those are not his only options either. The Zangief - Dhalsim match-up can be brutal if you're not prepared, but with the right mindset and with correct dash timing vs fireballs it's tense for both sides.

Been playing Birdie since day 1. How do i connect the dHP ( send oponent into the air) + high chains? Trough cancel?
Yes. HK Chain when in the corner, EX Chain elsewhere on the screen if I recall correctly.

saw a gif on twitter of a Vega normal making him invulnerable to Nec's v-skill lol capcompls

anyway, been thinking about the game a lot today after last night's awful performance, and people linking all sorts of training mode videos in the thread made me realize... I will never get good, or even decent at this game, because I have neither the time, and especially the patience to sit in training mode doing routines. That to me, seems like the sort of thing you do when you only play 1 videogame, so all you do is play that 1 videogame. Kinda like a mmo I guess. I'm not that guy, and ive never been that guy (kinda explains why I was always mediocre at fighting games I guess). I cant justify spending hours in training mode, thats not "playing" to me you know? Thats time I should be spending actually playing another game, or watching a show or something. I understand that is my own fault, im not in any way knocking the game for it, nor do I think you just magically get good without work, but I was kinda more under the impression / hope that it would come naturlly the more you played, and less grinding out against a training dummy.

I did learn that Gief's f.HP headbut eats fireballs when I was getting bodied by Omni last night, so I guess you do pick up things in matches :) Will most likely end up being something I watch and not play, as usual. Once again I was kidding myself when I said to myself "this is the one, this is the one where you finally get good at" lol
You're not looking at Training Mode correctly. You don't have to sit in it for hours on end, you use it as a problem-solving tool after a match to conjure up counters against what you struggled against. These can be very brief exercises. If you wish to finetune your ability to combo then by all means, but in the middle of growing familiar with new fighting game systems it's fairly low on the priority list.

Pre-release = Man, Dhalsim really feels incomplete, he looks really bad

Launch = IT'S MAHVEL BAYBEE
"Dhalsim's weak in this early build, man."

*gets nerfed, suddenly considered top tier*

I'm coming to this realization as well... As long as I don't get knocked down early, I win.

I don't understand Karin's wake up game... Actually, I feel she doesn't have a wake up game. When I get knocked down, I tend to stay down.

She doesn't have anything that seems high priority enough to stop anything when she recovers...

Spam LP? Nope.
EX Rasenha? If you can actually make it happen on recovery, more power to you.
Block? Nope you're getting thrown...

Try to grab as life depends on it! *gets jabbed to death*, but I guess it should be a lesson for me to play less aggressively from now on. Actually the only thing that works for me after being cornered or combo to death is to jump across to the opposite side :p. Then start again to fish for moves to punish.

Players have just figured out how to counter Karin, for good measures. Before I could rush everyone and if I didnt get to do the slide after jumping in, I could just stomp on their heads or do a throw if they kept blocking. Now players can just do a fast jab to keep me jumping in from a distance. Only projectile spammers are the ones who cant counter Karin well.

They play this game because it is Street Fighter and that is about as deep a fighter as the mainstream will get into. This level of rage quitting is frankly unheard of in other smaller fighters. The scrubbery on display is truly epic.
People do it because it isn't punished, plain and simple

I am having absolutely no issues playing online. Matches are fast. I'm getting probably no lag what so ever and rollback. I'm not running into rage quitters either. I've probably had 1-5 ragequitting in total. :D

I feel if Rasenha + command throw would work on Crouching players, that would fix a lot of problems with Karin... As well as some kind of special move that actually works on wake up...

Right now the throw after Rasenha is USELESS. I don't know why Capcom devs don't see that...

They're actually less ridiculous than they were in 4, Imo.

I find them inconsistent. Gief's SPD is supposedly punishable with regular throw but I was still get SPD meanwhile the other Gief player always landed the regular throw and even beat out my crouching Jab. Then there are other times when we both tech at the same time but the other guy whiff while I get the throw.

i'm still confused what a V-thingy is. I activate it but sometimes nothing changes.

The effect depends on the character.

All of them do something, though.

Some add stun and damage to certain moves over time...some do something immediate and obvious like Mika's and Vega's...some give you new specials to use...etc.

Yeah, I think that's cause of the rollback. You can only reliably judge these things by playing 2p, offline.

Yeah it really only works if the other player isnt paying attention for two seconds. However I will admit that Karin isnt the weakest player in the game, but it makes it tempting to switch to other characters due to the lack of options after cornered and limited anti air options.

Fighting Chun Li can be hell who is crounching all the time :P.

:| for which character. Every bodies v trigger does something different.

yeah i figured that. Like laura gets electrical attacks. but i think it was vega i didn't see what it was doing.

Is there anywhere i can get a list of what each characters V-trigger does?

also, Is Ryu the only one with parry? Ken does this weird run kick thing instead.

I'm a total noob sorry for the stupid questions.

Early prediction is that F.Champ wins EVO this year.

That Sim of his I see replays on in CFN in the game are out of this world. #1 on leader boards too. Think Arturo is #2 now too? Two sims top of leader boards. Different play styles too.

I mean Champ is in that ass so much more, and it's nuts.

Edit: Also, I LOVE this game. I get SO FUCKING HYPE watching F. Champ play. Some of his resets and combos are just WOW.

If it does nothing, it usually buffs a characters attacks damage, speed, and ability to combo. The only characters that have an active one is Rashid, Dhalsim, Vega, and R. mika. Zangief has a weird hybrid one.

As far as I can tell Ryu is the only one with Parry but it can be quite difficult to pull off. It is freaking satisfying to be able to do a combo into a shoryuken after timing the parry correct. Happened a few rare times also with a super. It will be scary when most Ryu players can pull off a parry consistently.

BTW Ryus parry is not tied to his V trigger. His V-trigger gives him more electrical attacks. You can see it through the Shoryuken and charging of hadoukens. Thats what I like about Street Fighter V is that most of the V triggers represent some type of element. Electric style is the most common one.

I am actually quite happy with all the backlash the game has received, if it sold a ton and be a great success other companies would follow. Personally I'm waiting for T7 to come to consoles but i fear Namco might take a lesson and just get more content in the game before release which most likely will postpone it.
Still love that core gameplay of SF5. Just to clarify that.

I don't think that's been an issue with the Tekken series

Of course, the trade off there is that you only get a new Tekken game once every 4-5 years...and the international community shrivels up.

Imagine if SF waited 4-5 years between every update to their franchise, instead of the near yearly updates we've been getting since 2009. FGC wouldn't be where it is right now with this huge international scene and EVO getting this massive year after year.

It's easy for companies to "take their time" and release "complete" games, when they know that some other companies are holding down the fort in their absence.

Let's not pretend that EX Ressen Ha is suddenly all that good. Her AA options are definitely limited.
You should really try some other characters before saying that. EX Ressen is an AA that doesn't care about delayed dive ins, her regular AAs actually deals damage and she have a nice escape tool. Definitely in the top half when it comes to AA options.

Sounds just a bit too good to be true since there are apparently V-reversals in this game that cross up.
That reversal(Cammy's) is much slower and extremely punishabal on block, believe me, you don't want that shit.

She technically has one currently, but it just kinda sucks iirc.
Yea, what she has is useless but a real command grab would be broken.... Actually, it would be redundant, her grab game is already good enough. She has a +3 light attack(st.LK), use st.LK > throw(can't mash jab out of this), and if someone dare to tech start doing st.LK > cr.MP or st.LK > cr.HP (HP to crush counter delayed throw tech, both can't be jumped/back-dashed out of). Girl is pretty scary when she's in your face.

Throws are 5 frames, same with giefs SPD. Snake Eyez said his EX SPD is supposedly throw invincible so that one beats all throws. Not sure how priority works when both throw and SPD are on same frame.

Throws beats strikes when active on same frame, so it could be that this is what happened to your crouching jab.

Your last case might be a thing of one of you being outside of throw range and the one who misses has increased hurtbox which puts him into throw range.

thanks for your explanations guys.

if anyone else is a casual player and would like to fight, add me (same name as here)
please add me. I'm not a complete noob with fighting games but i'm still getting my ass kicked online.

so anyone wanna fight?

Vegas is really good. He throws a rose very fast that when hits does a good amount of damage that can be combo'ed into. You can also very easily CA right after you hit his v trigger. His vskill I still need to play around but he spins and projectiles go through him.

is there any TOP players that use Ryu and are successful? is that Daigo's main character? I think Ryu is not a top character for advanced players, it seems he can always be fucked by another character with top player

EX SPD is throw invincible? Finally I know

Daigo plays Ryu.

Fourwude is a Ryu who's been achieving success lately

Getting hit by a wakeup CA makes me wanna throw my controller at the screen smh

Thankfully I've grown immune to this after years of getting hit wakeup ultras. I end up just expecting it all the time now and am surpised when the opponent doesn't have meter for it.

It depends what your metric for "top" player is. Gootecks has been using Ryu and with minimal success.

Gootecks needs to go back to Mika lol...

If their health is down and they're one move away from being beat then 95/100 times there's always a wakeup CA/EX move that has most range or invincibility.

Got my first Draw Game. Both players lose a small amount of LP. Funny.

Also played against the first good Dhalsim I've seen. There is no God.

Gootecks is a bottom player

What do you guys do when you know you are matched with a known rage quitter? Do you play them or do you quit to save time?

I can't keep track of all the rage quitters. There are millions of them rising up to trash my online experience. So, I usually don't know they are one lol.

The meta for wakeup is real lol

Expect DP or CA, and then Cammy does wakeup ex spiral arrow.
