Should Microsoft be given a third chance with PC Gaming ?

Wait and see. It costs me nothing to do so, and in the meantime I have plenty of other options unless I want to play the limited amount of previously-Xbox-exclusive games that I will probably end up getting on Xbox One anyways due to pre-order sales and the massive drop in the Canadian dollar.

If UWA improves and the Windows 10 Store actually looks like it's here to stay, maybe. If not, no big loss. PC gaming clearly doesn't need the Windows 10 Store. If anything, it's the other way around.
 
Of course they should be given another chance. The first time brought us Midtown Madness, Motocross Madness, Age of Empires, Dungeon Siege, Starlancer and more. I want them to return to that.

No need to give them a chance, just wait until they have everything there that you deem necessary to jump on board. Leave appropriate feedback through their channels and if it doesn't suit you, you lose nothing.

I don't get the hyperbole of most of these threads and the braindead "it's GFWL2" stance. There is absolutely nothing forcing you to jump in as there are other avenues to play all of these games.

Yep, and I cannot forget all of the great studios they shut down. Giving them any goodwill is a complete joke.

How about 5-10 years of proof they actually care?
 
So GFWL came back from hell with a different name?

I might pre order quantum break on xbone and try the W10 version.
But in its current form there's no way i'm buying anything from W10 store.
 
I think the answer is in whether you want or not to play its games, it is not that the existence of other storefronts is at risk with MS' proposal, which, as it seems give a much better option for some users than MS'.

Yeah, it's not their first rodeo. They've been here before and they know they've left a visible sh*tstain on PC gaming. I believe their current efforts are poor, but I honestly believe they can turn it around. I think the failure of the One is going to force them to actually commit to the PC platform this time. I really do.

I'm willing to give them a few months to clean up their mess. They've got more than enough technical fellows to fix the current store problems. That said, I get it if people don't trust them to give them another shot. GFWL was, without a doubt, a waste of everyone's time, energy, and money.

I don't understand this question...If you want to play their games then yes, if you don't then no. As gamers we should be happy whenever a company is trying to be inclusive.
 
Don't really think it matters. I just want games.
And top tier peripherals.

It depends on whether Microsoft wants to expand Windows gaming's reach or consolize the PC experience. I would love a more open Xbox and I would hate a more locked down Windows.

And if it's worse than a normal Win32 app in any shape or form, why would I even bother.
 
I don't trust them to do gaming in general not just on pc.
Their first party output has been consistently getting worse for the past 10 years and they've tried to push anticonsumer policies every step of the way.
They should just leave the gaming industry and stick to making spreadsheet software.

And even if Microsoft does everything right with PC gaming from the jump this time, it'll be very hard for them to steal the popularity, etc. from Valve with Steam, especially when so many people have been investing very hard with Steam over the years.

It's like YouTube Gaming trying to overtake Twitch.
 
even if all the "apps" suck, as long as you can still use windows as windows who cares?

if it's a way to play xbox games without buying extra hardware, i might buy a few

i doubt they'll run and look worse than the xbox versions if you have strong hardware, so it's a win compared to not getting the games at all

if this was the same microsoft that was publishing stuff from ensemble or big huge i might care, but it isn't

I am. MS goofed one too many times. If they want me to play their games: Release them on Steam or release a console I am interested in.

I am certainly not going to switch from Steam to MS Store. Never forget how they just left PC fans hanging the last few years.
 
No faith, only the expectation that they will act in their own self-interests.

... well, I suppose even that requires some faith, since they haven't in the past...

That said, I do believe things are finally reaching the point where they're starting to realize that insulating their core money-making business (the PC market) against erosion by adjacent markets (smartphones, mostly) is vastly more important than farting around in the console space over a "living room" strategy that died stillborn more than a decade ago.

Unless HoloLens takes off, in which case it's probably off to the races for the Stupid Brigade, again.
 
Ive had enough of microsoft now. They have fucked up too many times, even though i own an Xbox-One i never really play it as there is just too much crap associated with it. Its good they are so far behind though, as they are pulling out so many stops to try and catch up a bit.

I just wish they would take up Sony and Nintendo's policy on PC ports. Am I right?
 
Do their games require to use Windows 10 and all those Microsoft service /platform / standards / whatever? Don't count on me, ever. They failed miserably over the years and they still have not understood that there's no place for them in PC. And not a lot more in consoles.
 
I don't understand why they don't just put their games on Steam, please the PC gaming community by doing so and be done with it? Instead they say they care about the PC gaming community for the 784628 time and STILL end up fucking it up. How the fuck do you do that?

I understand that by putting their games on Steam they won't gain most of the profit but gaining at least some of it while also pleasing the PC gaming community and not alienating them would ensure a much better reception and a loyal customer base rather than one that won't be putting as much money in their pockets. Where's the logic?
 
I don't actually even care if they put the games up on Steam or not. If they don't, I'd be less likely to buy them, because I prefer to have my stuff in one place. My main problem is the Windows store exclusivity, and the way the apps from the store are being handled.

And before you ask, yes you can absolutely buy Valve games in places other than Steam.

The fact is that if they were serious about seeing whether there is appetite for games like Forza on the PC then they would make sure all. Existing peripherals are compatible from day one, f2p or not. Watch how when hardly anyone plays the game they will say "we tried Forza on the PC but the market wasnt there".

How about they just remove the restrictions that UWP has and make everyone's lives easier? Then everyone can just play the games how they want and enjoy them. How and why you guys are defending them over this I will never know.
 
Whatever helps to reduce the number of redundant devices under televisions is fine by me. But why stop here, go farther. Microsoft finding a way to cooperate with Sony would be quite ideal.
