Early impressions start rolling out for Batman v. Superman

i mean yeah

but my impression could cost me like $50 (or more) in going out, getting reserved seats, paying for parking, buying dinner, etc.

So, i'd like to have an idea what im walking into beforehand or to even walk into it at all.

But that's fine, we get some reviews very soon and then folks will see it and we'll have forum members talking about it. It's just interesting to see the MoS early impressions thread with some hindsight now.

I do agree with you that it has gotten very expensive to see movies nowadays. Imagine taking a whole family out and everybody wanting something from the concession stand. Nope not me lol. I also think that the early impressions can throw people off, whether it be movies, video games, or television shows.

The Bruce/Alfred scenes in Begins are probably the only solid time I thought Bale's Bruce felt like a real character at all. So if you're going to argue using Bale's performance in Begins then I'll definitely concede to you there, because there he's decently written and has an actual character arc. I think his Bruce sucks in the sequels though. The Rachel/Bruce scenes in Dark Knight are honestly kind of bad (it also didn't help that Bale and Maggie Gyllenhaal had zero chemistry together on screen). I don't remember a single thing about the Bruce/Dent scenes beyond his "I believe in Harvey Dent" scene mostly because I was focusing more on the (way better written) Harvey Dent character.

I'll just give one example of why I like Keaton's Bruce a little better than Bale's. Look at the scene where Bruce first tries to tell Vicki that he's Batman. Bruce straight up struggles to let the words "I'm Batman" come out of his mouth because that's a fucking huge bombshell to drop and it leaves him open emotionally. Ever try telling a secret to someone you care about and suddenly fumble over your words a bit? That made Keaton's Bruce feel a bit more human and in my opinion gave him a little depth because it felt like he was still a conflicted person internally (maybe I'm digging a little deep there, admittedly). Meanwhile, in Batman Begins, Bale has a line all conveniently queued up and ready to go right after Rachel asks Batman what his real name is. (Yes, technically he's Batman and not Bruce in that scene but it's a "Bruce" moment). That didn't really feel natural or convincing to me.

What about Bruce in TDKR with the prison scene? It was like he had to start all over again in defining who he is.

Why in the world are people hoping this movie is a shitpile? I'll never understand movie-GAFs ultra high standard of expectations when it comes to movies in general.

We live in a time where Deadpool actually happened and the MCU has 3 movies a year that are financially successful. Rocket Racoon is a character that is popular. Civil War is happening. Thanos is about to wreck shit.

Superman is back and now we get Batman vs Superman on the big screen. Suicide Squad and Doctor Strange are coming soon. This is literally the best time to be alive for comic fans in the history of ever. I'm a Marvel guy, but I want to see this and I hope it's good and I want it to be successful because Wonder Woman and Justice League are going to happen.

Lighten up and take a step back and enjoy it while it lasts, because like everything else, it will be over before we know what we really had. Then we'll be complaining that they don't do comic book movies anymore like they did in the glory years.

Get over it an just let yourself turn off the world and enjoy it for what it is.
100% agreed, we should want these movies to succeed dammit!

It really is. I live in Philly near a theater that does them all the time. It takes like one minute to get them. You just have to wait in line for a bit longer than you'd like, and then tada.

Yeah some of the fall/winter ones always have me thinking, it's probably a better bet to spend my money instead of hanging out on line for like an hour/90 mins

Possibly already posted, but here is a screen cap of some early impressions. Take them as you will:

Pay particular attention to the opinion of Norma Snutsack. She's a dignified and highly respected reviewer. As the old saying goes, "nothing say 'quality' like the name Norma Snutsack."

For some reason these twits seem like astroturfing.

I see the hate is still strong in this thread. Some day you people will all be believers. When the time comes The Church of Snyder will welcome you with open arms. None will be turned away.

I've never seen any the thing positive about God's Of Egypt. People have been consistently shitting on that terrible movie from the beginning to now

See, the audience giving it a standing ovation is exactly why I can't take these impressions seriously.

Yeah, early MoS impressions were similar. I'll wait till real reviews start rolling in, but I don't mind eating crow. I'm at least convinced Gal and Ben will be highlights.

I completely agree. Heck, we have characters called Black Panther and Doomsday actually hitting the big screen and the thing (most) people are more focused on instead of whether or not they should be there, is how they look compared to their comic book selves.

I'm more of a Marvel guy sure, but I want to see DC succeed the same way Marvel has. Am I cautious of BvS? Yeah I am but I want to see it and hope that it is good. Much like how if Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo are all doing well, then that's good for gaming overall. If both Marvel and DC can be successful, then it's good for comic book films overall. I get people hesitant, much like I just said I am, but wanting this to fail? I don't get that. Besides, in this day and age, you have to try and be Catwoman levels of bad if you're going to "bomb" as a superhero film.

See, the audience giving it a standing ovation is exactly why I can't take these impressions seriously.

Well, it depends on a lot of things as well.

Like noted in one of these threads, my section booed at the end because there's no post-credits sequence.

But I saw 10 Cloverfield Lane and there was clapping ALL through the credits, which led me to believe that's where the crew was seated because who claps AT the credits.

So yeah, could just be clapping and people getting up to leave.

If the action is good, I'd enter the church of stunt coordinator, fight choreographer, and second unit director Damon Caro before Snyder.

Cool, I'm looking to be excited for this. Batfleck is the main reason why.

Wonder how many of these early preview peeps liked Man of Steel though.

Hey, if the girls from Sucker Punch were there to greet me I'd convert in a hot second.

I was there in the seats when Snyder unleashed his (still) greatest film achievement, Dawn of the Dead.

Ive always had a feeling that Batfleck was and is going to be better then Batbale... Sorry not sorry. I hated bale and nothing on the planet will ever let me admire his batman so I'm prepared for a true man to play him and I have a huge feeling that Affleck kills it. Hopefully these impressions are right

I think people are simply spoiled on everything now. They take for granted the fact that we're getting these movies, and they're never good enough.

Another problem is that, to most fans, their personal visions of Batman and Superman will never, ever match up with what's given to them on screen. To many people, these characters are almost religious icons. You'll never be able to please everyone.

Personally, I'm 35 years old. I remember Superman IV, the Burton/Schumacher Batman films (I appreciate the '89 one for being a great film noir movie that happened to have Batman stumbling into frame every once in a while, but that's as far as it goes), the '80s Captain America movie, the live-action Spider-Man television show, the Hulk TV show/TV movies (seriously, look up the ones with Thor and Daredevil in them), and everything else leading up to and including the Raimi Spider-Man films, which I don't like nearly as much as everyone else.

We are fucking BLESSED to be getting what we're getting with these newer movies. Who would have thought that a movie with Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman would ever be a reality? Or the Avengers? Or Spider-Man in the MCU?

These are good times, but people don't realize it at all.

I have no horse in this race, I am paying to watch the movie and have absolutely nothing to gain by its failure. I just want to keep my expectations in check as I found Man of Steel deeply flawed, and the trailers for this to be serviceable, but lacking as far as that second trailer is concerned.

I used to go to those screenings all the time when I was in college (and shortly after), but the crowds started getting weirder and weirder -- as in, a not-insignificant portion of homeless people were clearly using the movies as an excuse to be inside for a few hours -- and access to passes became nearly impossible. I think a lot of these guys form their own clubs around this shit, and basically dominate whenever passes are released and pass them among themselves.

I don't think something should be praised for just existing. Spider man being the greatest super hero ever didn't stop me feeling immense satisfaction at seeing the ASM movies dropped like a bad habit.

I dunno, me and my fiancée saw Clash of the Titans

But that clearly worked! It got a sequel and you guys are getting hitched!

It's pretty bad now, but it's also relatively easy to get passes now. Most of the cliques are either Philadelphia Film Society or Cinemit people. I mostly just avoid them and go solo.

No movie this year will top it? OMG it's gonna be awesome!

The way Bale carried himself in the suit and how he portrayed Wayne outside of it is so far ahead of any other portrayal so far that I find it hard to believe Affleck can beat that in just 1 movie. We'll see. The thing I appreciated a lot in the Nolan movies was that Batman was usally just Bale or a stuntman in a suit. Affleck Batman seems to be the Comic-Book backflip/flying kick CGI extravaganza version of the character. Which just wouldn't work in the Nolan movies for obvious reasons.

Im here in Philly. Explain this process to me. What theater? Free? How do you even know they're occurring?

Again, being subjective...the ASM movies were light years ahead of what Raimi vomited onto the screen, in my opinion. I'd sooner watch B&R than any of the Raimi trilogy.

That title would go to Blue Valentine. I dare you.

These are the sites I use:
www.advancescreenings.com (get email notifications)
www.gofobo.com
www.cinemit.com

Studios seem to be setting up their own sites nowadays as well. WB has one that they use. Disney uses a separate one.

All you really need to do is get email notifications of when they pop up, and you're usually good. Just be patient in line!

KOP gets a lot of releases, as does AMC Neshaminy. If it's a smaller movie, you're looking at Ritz Five or Ritz East.

I thought Man of Steel was awesome because everybody got their ass beat and Metropolis got R-E-K-T

I thought Superman Returns was trash because Cyclops was the real hero

Disclaimer before your opinion hit.

What's your opinion of Man of Steel and Superman Returns.

Man of Steel: 6/10 - Great actions scenes, shit story
Superman Returns: 6.5/10 - Good movie, but too boring and long.

In class right now, so don't have time to explain more.

It's like everybody in the world became Alan Moore's themselves. When I was a kid comic book culture was shunned and frowned upon by the cool kids so while this subculture is going mainstream y'all better soak up that shine before shade gets thrown on it again.

I agree. And we are so lucky that we get to see so many interpretations of Batman and Superman.....now finally Wonder Woman. I am excited.
