I wish people would stop with the buff/nerf talk. It's STILL too early to be claiming who's top tier and who's not. Stop it. If anything FR proved once again that we have no clue what we are talking about.

I had to rush my last match so I can grab the FM. I had to rush for that stun so I can do my max punish into super.
Being the player he is, a very small number of players stand a chance against him. Most of the players he faced before the Top 8 are nowhere near as good as him or even experienced in big stages (suffering a lot of pressure) like that. And yes, He beat Wolfkrone, that sure was though. It was a shame what happened there and that we couldn't watch the rematch.
You have to understand that I'm not downplaying him, I'm downplaying the character he chose to use. I don't see him having success with him in a tournament where he faces a lot of players of his level+ in a row. Maybe it's too early to judge FANG, there might be interesting tools for him yet to be discovered, but as far as we know right now, the character is not good.
Yeah I would like to rescind all of my Cammy complaints as I've learned some new tech that I think definitely puts her in the very good range rather than the average tier range. I'll eat my words. Also Mika is much better than I thought as well, having played against some Ultra Silver ones now and her corner pressure/mixup game is kind of ridiculous.

I've been saying for a while that ryu is the best character, and FR only reinforced that opinion. I was slightly surprised by some top players' opinions of necalli, though. I play him and think he's great, but certainly not #1.

Yes, if MK X is anything to go by, I see him mastering a few character for specific situations in the future. The boy is a beast and as time goes by, I'm sure he will mark his name as one of the best of the world in SFV.

Ryu is still fucking king, he's not a complicated character and doesn't require much to get good damage...
Tokido didn't do anything even remotely impressive during that match, he just demonstrated all the areas where FANG is weak and blew him up.

He didn't do anything impressive to utterly destroy Mago 3-0 either. But I guess Karin is a terrible character too. It obviously has nothing to do with the fact that Tokido just showed how much better he is than Mago and SonicFox at the moment.
Or how Nando only got two rounds on him. I guess we're just putting Mika back to being the worst character again after being the most broken one in the span of a week.

How can that be the bar that determines that FANG is a terrible character? That speaks more of Tokido and SonicFox than anything. He destroyed Mago's Karin the match before.
That's what Tokido did against nearly every player though, even ones using characters people feel are better.

He beat Wolfkrone, NuckleDu and Julio. All players who have experienced the big stage. His only losses were to Brent and Tokido. Should we be downplaying Brent's achievements too? Did he have a cakewalk into top 8? Most players should know the Ken matchup so him making it that far must've been handed to him I guess
This is such a defeatist attitude.
You don't take one L then drop the character and switch to a better one. You watch the tapes, see what the opponent did to beat you and create a counter strategy to that. This is how you get better at fighting games.
This is exactly why some people stay stagnant when they're in the learning phase and barely evolve as a player.
Saying Fox lost because of FANG and Tokido won because of Ryu is like saying Infil won because of Nash. It's downplaying the players' actual skill in favor of tiers which really isn't fair.
(and yes, I know Nash is top tier, but he's not broken like some people are claiming. Infil is just a monster.)

It's still too soon to argue precisely about tiers while looking only at tournament results. What happened at FR was 90% about the players rather than the characters they were playing.
Infiltration is such a good player he made Nash look broken.
Tokido is such a good player he made Ryu look godlike.
Haitani is such a good player he made Necalli look like the king of the footsies.

Not accurate. Tokido showed extensive matchup knowledge (a surprising amount) and it did not look like SonicFox had the same level of experience.
Example: The one time SonicFox tried meaty bomb, Tokido dp'd it on reaction. Tokido tatsuing through bomb/fireball setups every time and SonicFox continuing to do it, most likely because very few people have been doing that.

Well he did do jump os a couple of times too, but Im pretty sure tokido understands magos weaknesses more than any considering they play outside tournament.
Tokido and Infiltration are on a level of their own at the moment to be honest. I guess Haitani too, the japaneses think he is the best right now if I remember correctly.

Also take into consideration SonicFox was busy winning the MKX tourny while Tokido was probably practicing the match up. The kid is a monster.
He definetly had an easy path too. It's a fact considering who he played and who the other players played. Let's just stop with this.

People who say Tokido beat SonicFox while others didn't only because of some innate skill difference really aren't paying attention. He won that match by making SonicFox's setups and tendencies useless, not by winning footsie wars and having godlike reactions and reads. He was the only person that proved they showed up knowing how to fight FANG.
That's why people like UltraDavid are saying SonicFox might need to reevaluate his character. He didn't lose on skill level terms, it was all knowledge.
Infiltration is winning basically 100% on raw skill. Tokido is boosting his own(incredible) skill with a higher level of game knowledge than other competitors showed.
He also has the best tools. People sleep on Ryu by default but he doesn't just have the tools to win, his tools are just better than what other characters get. Meterless invincible reversal, a parry that turns common tech into liabilities, great frame data, a jLK that stuffs anti-airs, one of if not the best chip supers in the game, great stats that are above-average on pretty much every front.
