that Owl movie is the best thing Snyder ever did

im serious. It's good

and it's CG so he could be hella flashy like he likes

dude should be a cinematographer or an FX guy

edit: oh wait no, Dawn of the Dead remake was pretty great too

If Hulk was a strike, Iron Man was a home run. Avengers was like going on to win the World Series.

WB could be looking at two strikes with Man of Steel and BvS. Not a good start.

Marvel also built their brand on $130-150M debut films for the various heroes (excepting Guardians which was more expensive). Hulk's miss, and Cap 1's ok result were covered by Iron Man 1 + 2's big sucess (as well as Thor to a lesser extent) even before Avengers blew up.

WB has been trying to dump buckets of cash at everything out of their DCU and hoping for a big return. The DC label is going to have a harder time handwaving away bombs/misses when those films are all like $200-250M. Everything has to succeed.

Haven't read the entire thread yet, so apologies if it's been mentioned, but based on what I have read, why are so many people so upset or sad lmao

This is the same forum that loves that piece of shit Speed Racer and that got torn apart too

Judge it by yourself, gang.

Because despite what some people here will tell you, Critics' opinions matter. A lot.

Yes DC, this is the guy to hedge all your bets on your potential multi-billion dollar franchise.

Dawn of the Dead, his magnum opus.

but how much money did those make, thats what actually matters for DC

im not defending anything, I like some of his movies and I dont others, but its just a fact

Avengers built upon the totally bland Hulk, Thor and Captain America movies and turned out fine (although that one also had a shimmer of hope with Iron Man).

Avengers built on accurate origin stories.

What the hell origin story is Batman in this movie.

Why why why did they hire Snyder for Justice League before this was released? And how did it turn out like this after how long it's taken and how long they've had in post...

He's the Greg Land of movie directors. He keeps getting high profile work, no one seems to know why and everyone hates him. And he laughs all the way to the bank.

it aint

it is, but it aint

people sure throw this around but like I said, eventually critics affect decisions, affect BO

that piece of crap amazing spiderman 2 made a lot of money

Yeah keep telling yourself that.

Speed Racer was ass.

Yeah, agreed with this. I kept hearing about people raving about how "great" the movie "actually" was but most of it was straight up trash. The only good parts of the movie were way too far and few in between for what was otherwise a technicolor slogfest.

I'd say Watchmen. I think history will be a lot kinder to it than contemporary critics were. My fave comic book movie.

Dawn of the Dead is to Snyder what The Rock was to Michael Bay.

EDIT: If you think about it, in a way, Zack Snyder may have bastardized BOTH of the most well regarded graphic novels of all time. Watchmen and TDKR.

Hmmmm...

what's with this unfathomable faith in Affleck

Argo was pretty good.

If that's the analogy you want to make, shouldn't Marvel have struck out right around Thor 2?

After Avengers they could do no wrong.

Thor 2 was good enough at that point. And they followed it with fucking Winter Soldier and Guardians.

DC is potentially starting their cinematic universe with two stinkers. They don't have the nice cushion like Marvel did going into phase 2.

Such a shame.
Should have gotten someone else probably.
Also why the hell is the guardians of gahool that low in metacritic, that was friken amazing(Im serious).

So if the movie actually is rather bad, what does that mean for the DCCU going forward? It's too late to do anything about Justice League 1, but do they boot Snyder for 2? Put it on the backburner and prioritize a solo Affleck Batman?

I think, depending on how this movie turns out, Suicide Squad will suddenly have a huge new responsibility in proving the viability/appeal of a non-Snyder DC movie.

That's fair, I thought Watchmen was good, mostly the visuals tho, like it tends to be with him

It felt a bit unnecessary as an adaptation and the changes they made didnt work (the ending, mostly)

it was fine. there's a reason why as it goes down what people will remember from it will be that intro sequence. that's snyder doing what he should only do

Overall Thoughts

I thought this was the perfect start to the DC Extended Universe. I had a tiny issue with the pacing in the first act, but a second viewing and the second and third acts make me forget my issue entirely. I love this film so much. The story is very complex and you need to pay very close attention to every detail. For certain things you’d really have to know DC Comics lore to understand. Especially the “Knightmare Scene” and that surprise cameo by The Flash. I wasn’t too sold on Affleck until seeing this film. He is the definitive Batman and his performance blew me away. Wonder Woman is the star of this movie and the entire crowd agreed by screaming each time she appeared. Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor was the perfect mix of insane, evil and downright brilliant. Jeremy Irons was a great Alfred and was the perfect comedic presence in the film, if you like sarcasm. Last but not least, Superman. Henry Cavill gave us one hell a performance. They redeemed Superman. This film is everything you want it to be and then some. You will laugh. You will cry. Go see it. Grab your tickets and take your kids. They will love it. I know I did. I’m taking my nephews this weekend!

This isn't apart of the RT list I believe.

he very much appears to be the world builder tho

way these movies are made you can't really dettach one from another

his take on the characters are the groundwork for all of this

favreau had a good take on Ironman, Snyder's take on Superman has been widely criticized
This is my concern more than a sub par movie. The entire DC movie universe is starting with this movie. If the base is poor then this is not good for future movies. Isn't the TV guy for DC doing work (I don't watch the TV shows)? Put him in charge of the entire DC universe and not just TV.
