So does this mean Affleck is a shoo-in for winning another Razzie Award for next year's show?

If not necessarily for worst (supporting) actor, I'm sure the Razzie committee will make the next show's special award theme will definitely be made with BvS in mind. "Razzie Award For Actor Who Needs To Stay Away From A Specific Genre" or something.

Well, the Razzie nominations have devolved in a "please pay attention to us" kind of way, so it wouldn't surprise me.

Even some of the most negative reviews have no problem with Affleck as Batman here.

I can't help but wonder why they would put such important movies to the DCU in the hands of such a divisive director. I'm not going to say he's bad, because he's almost ALWAYS right down the middle in opinions. About half of the people like his movies and about half dislike his movies in pretty much all of his filmography. It's bizarre.

I may end up loving the movie, but why not give it to a more critically acclaimed director?

MoS did $700m ww and that was enough for WB to give him another shot...though the fact they felt the need to not do MoS2 and rush BvS should have been the warning sign they needed to slow down and rethink things.

I'm not sure. Maybe they already had him under contract. You would think they would search for someone who could make more accessible films.

yooo Sucker Punch and great in the same sentence is something I never dreamed of seeing

and im a huge Sucker Punch fanboy, but that movie is awful :D

as usual people lack the ability to seperate quality from what they like

I really didnt expect this but I think I might not see it this week like I planned

I wanna see what went wrong and all but Man of Steel straight up pissed me off, it wasnt a "laught it off" thing at all

So many reviews are basically "not mah supahman!". I can't see how you can dock it points for not being the movie you wanted it to be. Get over the fact that Christopher Reeve films are in past.

It goes beyond Christopher Reeves and you should know that. I don't care that Supes killed Zod, I care that he's a barely developed character with barely developed motivations. And if he's going to kill, I'd atleast prefer it to feel justified. If Spider-Man started making web-nooses for regular-ass gangbangers, I'd take serious issue with that.

"NOT YOUR DAD'S SUPERMAN" sounds like bad edgy 90's marketing.

Dawn of the Dead is to Snyder what Red Dragon is to Brett Ratner. If you watched their entire body of work except those films, you would never be able to place that they directed them.

Ehhhhh, Dawn of the Dead is definitely a Zack Snyder film through and through. It just happens to be a really cheap one compared to what he got into afterward.

By comparison, Ratner is too workmanlike to make any real impression. He's basically the guy you get when when your first and second choices say no or drop out.

This has me vaguely hopeful. How is Watchman a 56? That film was goddamned amazing.

It was? When did this happen? The Watchmen I saw was bland, humorless, confusing and slow. It had two or three legitimately good scenes in it, but the rest of the movie had no flavor.

I thought the best case scenario for this movie would be high 70s or possibly 81-82%. Now I think it could still hit something like 69%, but low 60s might be more likely.

Sure it's only three films, but I'd say Aflleck has been better than a decent filmmaker so far. Argo gets crap because it's a weak best picture winner, but it's still a damn good film. Hell, I think Argo is his weakest film

I thought it was mediocre at best, and full of shit. Gone Baby Gone and The Town were fine though.

Snyder probably does get Superman. Its just that, people at DC/WB, and fans themselves all collectively thought he should reproduce Dark Knight Returns instead.

It's no one's fault. It's the result of drinking too much Batman Kool-Aid over the years.

That is definitely too true.

And when it all comes down to it, they're not going to blame or criticize Batman in this movie. If anything it'd be minimal.

Or Jonah Hex...

Lone Ranger was a good adventure movie, yeah the main character sucked and was a idiot but still overall enjoyable.

But actual westerns not big budgeted stuff.

I'd say Watchmen. I think history will be a lot kinder to it than contemporary critics were. My fave comic book movie.

It's a great take on superhero movies the way the book was for other comics. Still need to watch the full on cut with the animated series stuffed in.

Yeah, agreed with this. I kept hearing about people raving about how "great" the movie "actually" was but most of it was straight up trash. The only good parts of the movie were way too far and few in between for what was otherwise a technicolor slogfest.

Nope, Speed Racer is fantastic. Genuine take on the series that did more than try to cash in. Movie has heart. And the car choreography is amazing!

Hang on, if Batman
is a killer
, why is the Joker just hanging out in Arkham instead of the alternative? (Besides being around to do Suicide Squad things, of course.)

I like Watchmen a lot. It's a bit long, but I enjoy it quite a bit. Same with Constantine, that's got a low RT score but I think it's leagues better than Thor.

Even the low end marvel films have a level of consistency in tone and craftsmanship that make them relatively inoffensive and hard to hate. I considered Thor 2 to be abysmally boring and rank it well below many movies which Thor 2 got a higher RT score than, but just reflects the fact that the "average critic" is not me. Shitty movies doing gangbusters at the box office is reflecting that the "average viewer" is not me either. That's fine. The system isn't broken as much as I just don't align in tastes with this hypothetical average critic on many things.

I don't really see how he's barely developed or has barely developed motivations. It's pretty par for the course compared to most of this stuff and his motivations were pretty self-explanatory. You don't have to have some deep fuckin' philosophy to wonder why Superman wants to stop his alien asshole buddies from harvesting a planet. It's basic stuff but it's what it needs to be.

it aint

it is, but it aint

people sure throw this around but like I said, eventually critics affect decisions, affect BO

that piece of crap amazing spiderman 2 made a lot of money
It made a lot of money when looked at in a vacuum, but it made less than the first and those movies were far from cheap. That's not a trajectory that pleases studio execs, no matter what the critical reception.

I assume he has a record of bringing films in on schedule and under budget or close enough to it, where the film makes just enough of a return at the box office to keep the execs happy. The people running these things have different criteria to the public, I suspect.

Technically WB can still replace Snyder with someone else right?

Justice League starts shooting in three weeks, and WB have probably sunk too much money in it already to stop or delay. I'm sure guys like Snyder and Affleck have pay-or-play deals too that would make it too cost-prohibitive to disrupt production now. But maybe JL2?

I mean it's amazing the number of chances the man keeps getting. I pray I get that many opportunities to fail lol

He's probably proliferant and nice or whatever

I don't doubt the dude's got a good work ethic and producers like him

he has that "get shit done" attitude, at least it seems like

it's not easy to make movies this big, even from just an exausthion, physical point

there's a lot of behind the scenes stuff with relationships between parties involved and all as to why directors keep getting opportunities.

Fucking hell...

If there was ever a time to cast an imposing, scheming, and sinister Lex Luthor, it was this film. Not some whiny teenaged kid on speed.

They did it with Ozymandis/Matthew Goode in Watchman, it sucks they dropped the ball here.

I guess Zach Snyder has something against skinny intellectual kids, like one showed him up in college or bullied him as a kid, I mean it's a little silly at this point.

Herald Sun

'When the head-to-head heavy hitting finally transpires -- be patient, for it takes some time to get there -- Dawn of Justice delivers the shock and awe on a level befitting a superhero blockbuster of such massive scale.
Full Review | Original Score: 3/5'

It was pretty clear the first round of review were just jumping out there to get the clicks. I'm not saying what they've published is wrong or that we can't have negative things, it just seems as time moves on we will start to get more in-depth reviews that actually explain their thought process instead of "nah its shit because I had to think."

I feel my wings have broken in your hands
I feel the words unspoken inside
And, they pull you under
And, I will give you anything you want, oh
You are all I wanted
All my dreams are fallen down
Crawlin' around and around and around

Somebody save me
Let your warm hands break right through it
Somebody save me
I don't care how you do it, just stay, stay
C'mon, I've been waiting for you

I see the world has folded in your heart
I feel the waves crash down inside
And, they pull me under
I would give you anything you want, oh
You are all I wanted
All my dreams have fallen down
Crawlin' around and around and around...

Somebody save me
Let your warm hands break right through it
Somebody save me
I don't care how you do it, just stay, stay
C'mon, I've been waiting for you

All my dreams are on the ground
Crawlin' around and around and around...

Somebody save me
Let your warm hands break right through
Somebody save me
I don't care how you do it just stay (stay with me)

I made this whole world shine for you
Just stay, stay
C'mon, I'm still waiting for you
