PS4K information (~2x GPU power w/ clock+, new CPU, price, tent. Q1 2017)

Where are we at?

Hmm. I would consider this if Yoshida announced an FFXIV improvement patch. Someone should ask for the next live letter!

Still makes no sense to me. VR in the box, sure. Segmenting their already large market share, not so much. 32X4K.

Not interested in games running sub 1080 and 20fps due to them targeting the PS4K.

This is a huge mistake. I can't contemplate why they would think this a smart move. This makes me want to cancel my PSVR, as it seems I would need to buy a new system for the best out of it.

You believe this new system is going to be announced and launched in 6-8 months? When they haven't even decided on the CPU yet and (supposedly) are just briefing developers about it now? I don't see it.

The bits about the CPU in the OP make me skeptical. Isn't the CPU the Achilles' heel of the PS4? Seems like that is the first thing they'd want to upgrade.

On the other hand, an upgrade makes complete sense if Sony is making a big push for VR.

I swear to fucking Christ they better not mess with Persona 5 trying to prop it up for it.

Dunno what to think really, already have a very capable gaming rig, I'll probably get the NX and wait a year or two for the PS4K provided they don't hold games hostage which is my real concern here.

Is a GPU twice the power of the PS4's enough for 4K? As in, current PS4 fidelity games like Uncharted 4 etc.

Nope. Not a bad bump, but not the best one either. It just means the PS4K will be outdated by launch if Pascal launches this year. Then that Weird Al song All About the Pentiums will finally be true
]for consoles

They need to do 3 things for it to work for me:
1) Upgrade program for those who own a PS4.
2) Games are still made for the PS4 as the main target, then ported over to the PS4K.
3) They don't do any PS4K exclusive games.

Really worried about how they'll implement it. If they develop games for the PS4K as the main target then just port over to the PS4 I'd imagine a lot of people would be pissed. There also shouldn't be any major gameplay differences, keep the changes to a higher resolution, better AA, lighting and higher FPS. Online mode should ev running at the same frame rate to be honest.

Who said anything about selling my Ps4?

I'll keep it and play exclusives on it I guess, but going forward I'd buy more for Xbox, and I'm sure as hell not going to reward this shit behavior on Sony's part. Consoles are not smartphones.

I have bad news for you :)

MS will do the same thing!

LOL at people saying they're moving to PC.

You guys do know that PC gaming updates faster than consoles right? You're gonna be forking out more or same in the long run.

But you gain every other advantage PC has, including much better sales.

Not to mention the price of PC gaming and the need for constant upgrades is greatly overstated. I had my Radeon 7850 for over three years and only replaced it because my friend offered me his 280x for $50. Up until the end I was getting good framerates on High Settings in 1080p. And this is with a now a six year old AMD Phenom CPU and 8gb of RAM.

If you buy a $200-300 card, you are typically in good shape for at least 3 years unless you have to always be on the cutting edge with maximum settings.

You can upgrade when you want. So if you want your system to be 7 years old, so be it. Or if you want, you can upgrade parts individually.

The bolded is a big thing for me. I'm much more ok upgrading parts than whole consoles every few years. That's just wasteful, not environmentally friendly and a hassle as it's more of a pain in the ass to sell a console than a video card etc. when you upgrade.

I don't mind this at all. I remember someone saying that the ps4 should remain the lead platform that way it takes advantage of all the power of OG ps4 and ps4k juts helps it run better like 60fps /4kresolution

What if it can output to 2k, then upscale the rest? Just a half step to make games look better than upscaled 1080p games.

Yes, some games will probably do that.

That said I expect a lot to just make even better graphics and/or framerates at 1080p because that's what the vast majority of their customers will be running the games at anyway.

I don't believe it's even remotely possible, but on the off chance they released a console that can play games at 4K will this require the games that we have to install to be much larger? Current ps4 games can take up 50gb or more. Hopefully they include some enormous hard drives.

Well... Again, once it's confirmed, I'm out. I've already been looking into building a PC. It's the better idea.

I don't understand people doing this unless they really only care about PC games. The only reason I am building a PC now is because MS is releasing all of their exclusives their. If they weren't I wouldn't be doing it.

I will say this, this generation still doesn't feel like it's in high gear unlike the 360/PS3 generation. I've barely used my PS4 and at this time in the 360 cycle I was getting a lot more value for my console purchase.

So at least for me, this was a super slow generation that is getting capped off before it really got going.

I agree, might not be true but it feels like there are way less games, all those smaller AA games that came out early last gen. Right now this gen it feels like big AAA games and remasters

Best outcome I imagined. Software compatibility is retained, but hardware is beefed up considerably. Plus, GT Sport will take advantage of it.

If this lands at $400€ I will be officialy hyped.

And LOL, we will finally get these flames!

Someone please explain to me exactly how this will "kill Playstation and Sony"?

Are you all that daft? I fail to see how it will. Do you guys think everyone will:

A) Sell their PS4 and move to Xbox (who are also doing the same thing).

B) Move to PC where it's even more expensive to upgrade.

C) Give up their favourite hobby.

Come on man, what's wrong with you all? You'll all just eventually buy it anyway so why moan about it now? It's happening and the way I see it is, either accept the situation or give up gaming all together.
