Final Fantasy XV: Platinum Demo Thread

Duscae was boring, but the combat was way better than in this so called demo. At least you could make some cool combos with your buddies.

Still, this holding the button down to see stuff happening on screen is even worse than reaction commands in KH2.

Yeah.. I've not been holding down any buttons because in the full game that'd be a waste of mp lol. And I like Qte's so I'm probably not the person to speak to about reaction commands lol

I really liked the demo. Obviously doesn't represent the full game regarding content, but it was a cool piece.

I was amazed how good the graphics were in the city environments.

BTW, is there now any purpose to R3 hard lock on really? With L1 being a lot more flexible and quicker to switch on and off. I know both kinds of lock on existed in Duscae, but there I still did find r3 to be useful in prolonged encounters , but with inclusion of undodgeable attacks, that pretty much have to be escaped, it feels like being able to unstick and teleport away instantly is just objectively better.

I'm not sure why people are deriding the combat so much... Has everyone bothered to get the King's Shield? For me it was a real gamechanger against the Iron Giant without being overpowered like warp strike on the shuriken. The only move I don't understand how to counter on the giant now is the black hole move that draws you in.

Switch weapons and warp away to those target points.

Think I'm going to have to give the demo another go. I see all these videos of others and they make the combat a lot more fun than what I experienced. Going to see if a second play through clicks for me.

Out of genuine curiosity, when has a demo for an RPG ever blown anyone away? I get SE wanted to put something playable in people's hands, but this seems the one sour note from Uncovered.

I enjoyed it for what it was, but understand how people not keeping up with the game and who hadn't played Duscae would find it underwhelming.

Maybe if they'd just released a pure combat demo against giant and some other enemies with a proper battle tutorial people would be singing a different tune....

this is why companies dont do demos anymore. they cost money to put together, dont increase sales, and sometimes decrease sales.

OK good news. It clicked! I still stumble a bit due to the mirrored controls (seriously. Why did they do this?) but I've wrapped my head around it. I wish they gave us a bit more fire spells. I accidentally wasted mine first run through. I can see myself enjoying the full combat experience. I'm combining Duscaes party attacks with Platinums basics and I can see it meshing well.

The bad news is its incredibly easy now that I've got the hang of things. Even the level 15 Iron Giant is easily beatable with a good strategy. Still not a fan of the camera either.

Your experience same as mine first run was not good at all after few fights with the boss I like it

Just finished the demo and found it not all that enjoyable. Accidentally fought the buffed version of the enemy at the end and found it to be a real slog. Music was the best part. Honestly more excited for Project Setsuna cos this isn't really what I want from a Final Fantasy.

Those fun little explore moments are a nice touch. Never thought I'd say I got a Banjo Kazooie platform game fix from a FF game. They got the little context sensitive plates and all. I transformed into a car like it was Nuts & Bolts. Maybe Square discovered Rare Replay when only 2 copies got sold in Japan.

How much time does it take to playthrough this?

Put ~40 minutes into it this morning before work. That included soaking in all the sights and trying to find every single little collectible, as well as fighting both versions of the endboss(lv. 3 and 15). If you were to just ignore exploration(as little as there is), you could easily finish it in a fraction of that time.

Oh and the combat is horrendous. Holding down the attack button worked fine mostly, as did quick-swapping between weapons for some slight combo chains(its lame, but it worked!). Anything else attempted was a confusing mess of deciphering why certain inputs flat out won't work or suffer such insufferable delays(fire magic, warping, defense). It's exactly how NOT to build an action game where the puppeteer feels entirely lacking in control over your puppets. Duscae suffered some similar issues, but the control layout felt early so I presumed things would improve in the year or so...

Play FFXIV instead people!

Why is the font so damn small though. Had this problem with Xenoblade Chronicles X. Japanese RPG developers that release for HD platforms still seem to have an issue with HD fonts and im not sure why. Mistwalker got it right back in the day as did Tri-Ace. Hell FFXIII had it right so im not sure how XV got it wrong for UI.

Was reading through this thread at work on my break, annoyed at how negative people were being. I mean this is FFXV, people!

Then I got home and played it.

WTF was that?

And why can't I seem to fight this Iron Giant?

I've only ever found the upgraded hammer and sword. Where is the shield and the spinny blade thing?

haha interesting seeing the mixed reactions. seems pretty love/hate so far
I think the hates are mostly from rushed reactions. Gamers don't like to give anything new a chance. If something controls differently, its autohate. They expect it to be exactly like everything on the market. If Square were to do that, people would say, oh how origional?

Keep going higher on the tall middle building then drop. There is a platform to fall on with the two weapons

I kind of agree. The gameplay didn't click with me the first time, but after trying it a bit, it has a lot more depth and is a lot more fun than it is at first. The biggest thing wrong with this demo is not a proper tutorial for people.

Some people may actually dislike it and that's fine. I feel like many just didn't give the combat a chance though.

At the end where you fight the iron giant, you can follow a bunch of warp points up the Citadel. You have to be adult Noctis. If you look down from the higher points you'll be able to see a platform jutting out of the Citadel. Both weapons are there activated by plates.

I went into this being optimistic and hopeful even though I wasn't a big fan of Episode Duscae. I really did, but man this was bad. How can the performance be so poor when it looks that bad? Seriously, you look at a game like MGSV which looks better and runs at a rock solid 1080p/60fps and you have to wonder how SE can come up with this trash , especially having been in development for so long.

I mean the game might still turn out okay, but I think it will be a lot better when it comes to PC at 60fps or perhaps even a PS4K 60fps patch.

I can't believe I missed them haha. I guess I'll go back and find them.

No one asked them to create an entire original product for the demo.

Heck, it would have been better received if it was a just a part from the main game slapped into a demo. Assuming the original product doesn't suck as much, that's it.

Do you mean going really high on the building? Because I felt like there was a limit to how high I could go. I didn't see any other teleport spots.
The first teleport spot you see on the middle building is the platform you want to get on. Look up and you should see another(while already hanging)

Do you need a certain amount of crystals to activate them or can I just rerun through the demo to the end and go up there to get them?

I trust this game gonna be awesome and this man too.

Just finished the demo.

Left a horrible impression.

Have not played the previous demo or finished a FF since X - so I´m not that deep into FF anymore, but...

The entire time playing I was like "what?"

Graphics are bad, camera is bad, controls are bad, fighting is bad, voice acting is cringe-worthy.

Overall super janky.

This does not feel or look like a game from 2016.

Good luck selling 10 million copies of this...

For one (shield) you need at least a 100 to activate silver. The other only requires that you beat the level 3 iron giant first.

I ran through it and got like 86 though, so it shouldn't take too long to get 100.

There was a limit yes, but it's quite high enough.

Anyway, to me, I'm not impressed at all. I don't care about IQ for console games, I did not for Halo 5 but at least Halo 5's gameplay was R.A.D.

Clearly, FFXV isn't from this demo and duscae 2.0, the gameplay look very far from what I expected. You have to hold to perform a combo ? The great thing about doing combo is actually to push the button, if you don't have to, what's the point ? Timing ? It's also automatic.

Ennemies barely moving when you hit them ? Nope. The boss looked like it felt nothing, at least make it move a little. There's no feeling, no feedback...

Yea, the Lv. 15 version isn't so bad if you blow a few fire spells on it or land a warp stagger(hold triangle) for easy combo hits.

Still just a real lame fight overall even using all of the available skills to their potential. A very basic and weak action experience and even worse given the 'RPG' roots of the FF brand.

It's not a great demo. I can see fans saying "Okay, this is a neat pre-release software," but as a demo which would function to sell people on the game, it's a bit puzzling.

- Performance can be iffy.
- You play as child Noctis, who you (presumably) will not play as at all in the full release.
- You're doing weird item collection and platforming
- Pretty much no story
- When you do get into combat, you have a pretty limited weapon set unless you've been collecting and exploring, as well as no access to warping and armiger unless you discover the respawn plate in the back of the area.

No in fact a lot of the time I found it worse since you are in close quarters a lot of the time in this demo,it gets stuck on everything in this demo it's awful.

Downloaded to xbox one...simply cause my HDD is bigger.

Yeah, not feeling it. I must be looking at a different game than the people who are calling it gorgeous and stunning too. And the best demo they've ever played. WTF? That was awful.

Sorry, didn't mean to quote.

I don't recall, I collected a bunch of crystals on my second run through just to be sure. If you need more, I'm pretty sure you can just respawn/meteorain the enemies in front of the path leading to the final area before you move on.

If it would be Random Japanese Fantasy Title XV I wouldn't get it. I didn't like this demo that much. Controls were the biggest disappointment, also those frame drops were bad.

The demo was ok (it reminded me of kingdom hearts), until Carbuncle decided to throw me to the abyss:

The soundtrack is amazing, as expected, and although the game looks better than in Duscae, it still looks bad. Since i'm not impressed by the gameplay either, i will probably pass on this for the time being.
