Good luck, Zack.
God forbid people form their own opinion? Movie tickets are hardly expensive.
Have no problem with people willing to make up their own minds about things. That said, when the overwhelming chorus is negative and the film maker's pedigree is in question, I would rather they open their minds to spending their movie-going dollars on something more original than simply jumping off a cliff like a lemming out of obligation. There are lots of great films out there to make up your own mind about that don't have a bad reputation going in.Just because something is bad doesn't mean you can't enjoy it. Seriously? How about not policing how people chose to spend their time and money instead of telling people to have self control? That sounds much more productive.
Yes. It dropped 72% on its second weekend, but Captain America: The First Avenger opened that weekend, so it had competition. Unlike BvS which went against God's Not Dead 2 and Meet the Blacks...Didn't Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 drop 72% after its $169 million opening weekend?
Far too many people are posting in this thread saying they actively went out of their way to purchase tickets and watch this movie DESPITE the fact that they knew it would be bad in advance.
You know, you could have just not gone to see it. Have some self-control. If anything, a 70% drop isn't large enough. Didn't Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 drop 72% after its $169 million opening weekend?
Woof, I heard China wasn't really buying in too hard but that drop is even more brutal.
I don't think anyone is that morally corrupt.I mean, the alternative would be to involve myself in all of these back-and-forths without having seen it. But who does that?
Who goes on the internet and complains about things they haven't seen/played/tried?
Madness.
Yes but they clearly don't want to or already do and just saw this too.Have no problem with people willing to make up their own minds about things. China is Marvel country. Batman v Superman is going to be beat by Ant-Man in China. Ant-Man.
Director Zack Snyder believes that Batman and Superman transcend the superhero genre in a way that certain Marvel heroes can’t, according to an interview with The Daily Beast. When asked for his take on Steven Spielberg’s comments that the superhero genre eventually will go the way of the Western and die off, Snyder said, “I feel like he’s right. But I feel like Batman and Superman are transcendent of superhero movies in a way, because they’re Batman and Superman.” Indeed, there were myriad Superman and Batman films before the recent superhero craze, so it makes sense that those movies would exist after the bubble has burst.
Then, Snyder threw some shade at Marvel, saying that Bats and Supes aren’t “just, like, the flavor of the week Ant-Man—not to be mean, but whatever it is. What is the next Blank-Man?” (Presumably, he meant for us to fill in the blank before “Man” as a comment on the interchangeability of second-tier superheroes, and not to start discussing the 1994 Damon Wayans superhero spoof Blankman.) Few would argue that Ant-Man is anywhere near as iconic as Batman or Superman. But some would argue that Ant-Man is a better movie than Man Of Steel, and it doesn’t seem to occur to Snyder that perhaps the quality of the final product has some say in which superhero films stay around for years to come.
Didn't someone say that like 70% of the BvS screens were going to be changed to some other movie the week after it released? That would explain the epic drop (WB hopes).
For those wondering why Snyder decided to jump into the DC Universe, this video has your answer:

He saw Star Wars once and ..............?
It was definitely better.
I still don't get the schism among some of the bigger film fans here regarding Iron Man 3. Most of the people who think it's a terrible movie unabashedly praise almost everything else Shane Black's ever had his hands on. This goodwill extends all the way to fucking MONSTER SQUAD.
Yet all that goodwill is willing to get chucked to the side, despite the fact Iron Man 3 is pretty much 100% Shane Black through and through, because the Mandarin isn't used like he was in the comics. And the Mandarin in the comics isn't all that fucking great to begin with. What Black did with him is the best thing that's ever happened to him.

Good old IM3. Which is still the best marvel movie to date. The Twist was great, the script screamed Black, and it was the best character piece in any of the films. I love the villain too. One that Stark created.
And we know what Snyder thinks of Ant-Man.

As a lifelong comics reader, who mainly reads Marvel out of the big two, I have no fucking idea why "fans" took it so personally that a dumb villain like The Mandarin was used like that.
I think it's another example (like the reaction to Ultron daring to tell jokes) of the tone of trailers getting movie fans attached to a certain interpretation of something. I don't think it has anything to do with comics.
The steps that have led him to being the leading force on franchises that are among Warner Bros' highest grossing are unfathomable.
I've never gotten into the whole man child Marvel vs. DC squabbling either. I prefer DC's universe, but I like Marvel's too. It's like the ridiculous 'console warz' bullshit on the other side of this forum. I feel like I get hit with a wave of stupid everytime some random in a comments section or on a forum accuses a website or actual movie goers of being payed employees for whatever company they are crusading against. I can't even visit the DC subreddit anymore because of how much of a self-parody it is now.
Ouch, that's a terrible number.
Zootopia's second weekend was bigger than Batman vs. Superman's will be.
Like Ultron in A:AOU, Whiplash in IR2 and Iron Monger in the Iron Man?
It's going to be a climb to even make it to $800 million at this point.
The movie lost 70% of its screens because performance was lower than expected since Day 1 and weekday legs were shit. China has a lot of mobility in its theatre business. In North America most exhibitors sign on to show major films for at least 2 weeks even if they bomb. If something bombs in China, it won't even make it to the second weekend before losing a ton of venues/screens.
I never understood the hate for that quote. I mean Ant-Man was way better than BvS but he's referring to Batman/Superman being more iconic which is true.
Yeah, Tony's pretty good at making bad guys, which explains his motivation in Civil War
Something I asked in the other thread: You think exhibitors are gonna start dumping screens starting next Friday? Normally you wouldn't start losing screens/theaters, especially without any solid competition coming in to force the film off, but this seems to be quite a thorough rejection happening on the part of the audience.
Like, this guy is a goldmine for dumb jock quotes.
Iron Man 3 is one of my least favorite MCU films (I'd only rank it above Hulk and Thor 2), and I don't really have any issue with how they treated the Mandarin. The film was getting pulled in way too many directions, so many creative decisions felt like bad compromises and so much of the plot felt contrived. RDJ's performance was also a bit strange and a lot of his line delivery really threw me off.
Also, the Shane Black buddy cop movie should've been Iron Man + Hulk

Such a terrible quote. Guess all the stupid/constant comparisons make sense. If HE'S doing it, what else can one expect? Ant-Man was a fine movie. Nothing out of this world, but certainly not some throwaway flick in the slightest. Guess it's a small enough movie that it's safe to poke fun at..
Was this ever answered? Perhaps just a fan?Who is this douchenozzle supposed to be?

Iron man 3 is far and away the best in the series IMO.

He's talking about the characters themselves, not the movies.
One of my favorite character bits in Hickman's run is during a description of Tony who had fallen off the map for a bit and it goes into the fact that despite everything Tony has done to try make up for his past sins, he's always been unnaturally gifted at making weapons of destruction. It's right as they revealed he'd made a sol's hammer powered by a dyson sphere and wipes out an entire armada of spaceships. I consider him constantly fucking up and creating his own villains one of the key aspects of the character.

Then that makes it an even stupider thing to say.

Yeah, Im sitting here and Im listening to you and Im thinking, Do I want to fire some shots at DC right now, at Zack Snyder?' Stan said in an interview with Collider.
Something about, Its not going to be your flavor-of-the-week Ant-Man. And I was like, Oh thanks, Zack. Thats great. Way to do something original,' Stan continued. But I would say were still making something very original in our own way. I mean, the Russos are coming in and taking something people are used to and theyre shaping it up and changing it in a very different way. Theyre not trying to mimic a better Christopher Nolan movie or something like that.
He's saying Batman and Superman are more popular than Ant-Man. Which is true. Don't see why that's considered so inflammatory.
Is that the one where Reed Richards explains the differences in their geniuses? Because yes, that was brilliant. Really speaks to what makes these characters tick.
