Goddamn playtime restriction on uploading Steam Controllers profiles. I hate starting mine from scratch.

How is it?

Im about to bite the bullet. ;p

Also, this is a Roguelike right?
It is absolutely fantastic, I love it, I enjoyed Nuclear Throne and I'm in love with this currently. Would definitely purchase it, the first game I've played since Rocket League recently where I'm saying "Alright, one more".

Has anyone tried with a Steam controller yet?

I'm on it. It doesn't need a lot of tinkering to feel good on aiming/moving. I'm still not sure where to put everything else button wise, but still haven't played much.

The first few community configs are starting to pop up.

Oh shit I didn't think they would hide
health
in random barrels . Now I have to destroy everything in every room :(

Tried playing the game on Mac OS X 10.11. Lots of framerate drops at 1440x900 at low settings on a gt650m. Works fine on Windows. Guess the mac side needs a bit of optimizing still.

I haven't read the whole OT so sorry if the question already came up but what's the progression like in Gungeon? Do characters gain some kind of XP? What happens when you start a new run? Can you save during a run? Very interested but I'm wondering if the game is like say Spelunky?

its like spelunky. there is a meta layer of buying new items in the hub to populate the dungeons you go into, and I presume you unlock new characters eventually (I havent yet)

From what I've seen so far the progress is a lot like Necrodancer. You'll always start off a run with your class items but you'll unlock a huge amount of weapons, actives, and passives that you can find or buy in the Gungeon.

Buying this and downloading as we speak for PS4, looks amazing, can't wait to play... gives me a Nuclear Throne vibe I can't resist. Only played dual stick shooter on iOS so I also want to see how that genre fares on my PlayStation 4. It will join the likes of Bit.Trip Runner 2, Rayman Legends, FEZ and many more.

I fucking LOVE how the teleportation system works. It makes exploring every room No Big Deal. I never want to backtrack in any game ever again.

so far i dig it, but i am getting a little wore down already but the lack of progression system.

ie: when you die, your max health goes back down to normal, you lose all your money, etc.

i'm a huge fan of Rogue Legacy and beat it 3 times over, but in RL you at least got to keep your max health and money after death, but just lost your perks and chosen class. i guess i'm just not a fan of these games that are quick to beat and are mainly focused on the meta aspects. i'd prefer a lengthy campaign with some progression thrown in, and the also layer some meta activities on top of it all.

edit: the reason for this being that you have to rely 100% on skill to get through the game and you don't get to really "earn" any upgrades or permanent perks of any sort. in RL the game got a little easier as you gained more max stats and unlocked stuff in your skill tree, but once you cleared the game and did a NG+ it got hard all over again, and you got to climb a brand new ladder basically.

I just have to share the latest episode in Northernlion's Gungeon playthrough, that ending is just way too hilarious. (jump to 20:00 if you just want to see the ending part)

I was trying to resist spending money on games this month, but something about this game just draws me in so I just bit the bullet a minute ago. Hopefully I won't regret it, this game does seem a bit like Nuclear Throne and I absolutely hated that game so hopefully I made a better judgement call this time around. The videos of the game look absolutely great though, gonna try the game out right now.

About to install and play, how does mouse/keyboard feel?

It's fine but I ended up switching to a controller. I prefer the blank input and the fact that I don't need to worry about a cursor means that I can focus on dodging rather than aiming.

I'm sure the mouse is a better option if you can focus on everything on screen at once though.

Interesting, I did like RL for that aspect. Kind of a bummer you lose everything once you die. Do you feel this aspect hinders the enjoyment of the game for you?

Funny, my biggest gripe with Rogue Legacy was that leveling up carried over from run to run. Getting good enough to win in skill alone is the best part of roguelites IMO.

How could you hate Nuclear Throne?

Funny, my biggest gripe with Rogue Legacy was that leveling up carried over from rub to run. Getting good enough to win in skill alone is the best part of roguelites IMO.

it hinders my enjoyment slightly, because i am not very skilled at games in general, and the overall gameplay is incredibly fun and feels great. so i feel like it's a shame to waste such awesomeness on a strict roguelike ruleset.

it's just very jarring and frustrating to suddenly die during a run and know that you have to start all over again. i mean, i love Bloodborne and even it allows you a way to regain your stuff and maintain a sense of progression despite it's difficulty.

worth the money though. it's got character, it's got pizazz, and as i said before it feels really great. will probably poke around with it more today and try out all the classes.

For me as well, the genre asks to you to try harder and get better at it with every new try and when you beat the game it is sorely on skill and persistence, so doing something like RL would break that spirit. Wouldn't like it as much if it was like that...

Does anyone know how to switch to your second active item as the pilot?

Pressing left shift cycles through your items, space activates selected item.

If you fall into the little hole after the elevator leaves, you go into a different room. Not sure if it has any secrets

I find the game pacing kind of...annoying. Everything feels a bit too bullet spongy and the starting weapons except shotgun and crossbow are too weak. Which would be OK I guess but then there are also the boss battles, which I find really annoying. I would prefer harder bosses with less HP.

Anyone know what the deal is with the doors with a red X? Tried one and it set me on fire and then I died.

I would prefer it overall if the game was harder but faster. Is Nuclear Throne like that? I have not played it yet.

Is there no way to start with a different gun? I've unlocked quite a few but it always makes me start with the typical beginner gun

The only roguelikes I've really latched on to thus far have been FTL and Dwarf Fortress so I was surprised that this game seems to hook me as much as it does, especially as someone who really didn't get much out of Binding of Isaac. Aesthetically I love the personality in all of the enemies and boss encounters so the game nails it from a presentation point of view, really looking forward to finding one of those crazy laser weapons we saw in the trailer.

It might help that this is the first twin stick shooter that I've played on the steam controller and, with some few tweaks, I'm actually really loving the config I've come up with (the hallmarks being binding Reload + Tableflip to the right pad click and switching the trigger and bumper inputs with eachother)

Nuclear Throne is WAY faster than this game due to only being single levels and not a dungeon with rooms. It's way more chaotic, so, probably what you're looking for.

Also, does anybody else find the aiming in this game to be less accurate than Nuclear Throne's?

The Pilot always starts with the gun, but the other characters have a pistol ontop of a crossbow, or a shotgun.
