To endorse her. That's the caution
Because of all the emails probably.
To endorse her. That's the caution
As the setup for a joke in which you *think* that's the term they're using, but it turns out it's not.Other than discussing the phrase, what context would be okay for white people to use it?
As weird as it is that so many folks here have never heard it, even weirder is the number of black posters who don't seem aware that CPT is used by whites to reference late black employees, and they don't mean it as a compliment.
"Cautious Politician Time" doesn't even make sense as a rehearsed line. A cautious person wouldn't be late, they would be on time because they were cautious enough to budget in unexpected delays. Even ignoring the potential insult here, the joke just doesn't make sense. Boooo!
Do you know what the h.n.I.c. is?Never heard that term before either.
Such a crazy thing to say.
lol jesus christ, its like watching Mitt Romney in a wig at this point.
Lol I got one buddy and this isn't even about me; it's about Hillary Clinton and professionalism. This stuff makes her campaign look unprofessional regardless how it makes other people feel.If something like this is enough to offend you, you need to get a life
Get Dave for it...You really think this joke is bad enough to warrant a rejection of an endorsement?
I mean, it was a lame joke, but it wasn't racist. It was a lame comedy bit that would have landed if either Hillary or DeBlasio had any comedic timing.
Do you know what the h.n.I.c. is?
Just curious about how well known our acronyms are.
But the bottom line is... can NYers use this to get rid of de Blasio?
she's just not a natural politician guys give her a break
/sarcasm, terrible joke from another terrible campaign she's running
Right, I'm kind of surprised more people don't know about it/how it could have racial connotations.
But the bottom line is... can NYers use this to get rid of de Blasio?
People who run terrible campaigns don't tend to win.
As the setup for a joke in which you *think* that's the term they're using, but it turns out it's not.
And in the context in which I've heard it - in safe, diverse communities where it's an inside joke amongst the community.
watched the video and it's even worse than i thought... it wasn't some slip up, they actually scripted and planned this out thinking it was a good idea!
Was about to say... I've never heard of CP time, but my girlfriend is from Africa and mentions African Time a lot.Is CP Time considered to be different from African Time? Because the latter is real as shit.
it's probably one of those jokes that's been around for a long ass time that nobody can even claim at this point. never heard it used negatively before though.I've only ever heard Mexican time. I think everyone else stole it from South and Central American culture.
Seemed like a totally staged bit to set up the cautious politician line, but I can't imagine how anyone though that was a good idea.
I feel like every culture has a cpt variant. Shit, fgc has tst (tourney standard time) to mock everything running behind.
it's probably one of those jokes that's been around for a long ass time that nobody can even claim at this point. never heard it used negatively before though.
de Blasio is a world class piece of dog shit

Hah, you're kidding yourself if you think that anything the Republicans have can stand a chance against her. She's only winning by default at this point. There is no other democrat in the race. Wait till the general.

It makes sense to me. He was cautious of whether or not to endorse Hillary, I assume in light of the email scandal.
Cautious about who to endorse. It was probably rehearsed.
To endorse her. That's the caution
He's cautious in terms of endorsements, because a cautious person would have been waiting until her nomination was a mathematical certainty.
Yes it does. She saying he's a cautious politician...as in that's the reason he waited so long to endorse her.
Never wrong is NW.Nah. Her using it a setup for a joke is fucked up and she shouldn't have.
It would be like her saying "I'm NR." with a wink and a nudge to make people think she's saying nigger-rich and then when people react negatively she says "I mean I am never wrong."
Speaking for myself, it's always been used in my family in differing variations. I suppose I never really thought about how it came about.
Right.
I don't think the issue is that the racial connotations aren't known. I mean, "colored people time", it's right there. I just think it's surprising to some people that the joke still has an offensive tinge, although I suppose that makes sense.
I mean, this joke is old as fuck. My grandparents make CPT jokes. I always looked at it as an old bit of racial self-humor that a lot of communities have. But still, if your're not a member of that community, you should avoid it.
Like, recently a Jamaican friend of mine on Facebook posted an Instagram video meme about how Jamaican food restaurants never actually have food. It was funny, I laughed. But it was a joke I wouldn't make myself, obviously, because I'm not Jamaican.
I think that a more cautious person would have probably avoided making the joke. Even if we operate on the idea that the joke isn't really that offensive and that people are overreacting, de Blasio (and Hillary if she knew about it) should prioritize good PR over taking a chance that a joke from a white guy about black culture would go over well.
Shit would drive me nuts when i I lived in D.C. lol..Yooooo, he's right.
You only say that shit when you at home or with family
He would have known this if he attended the meetings
Same. I suspect it's used in a lot of cultures though, 'cept maybe Germany.Hmm I've never heard this CP thing until today. I'm with the above poster with having heard Mexican time. Can it really be an honest mistake or do we assume it was a deliberate racist comment?
