Another question (general game question, beginner):

What's up with NPCs disappearing after you say you'll help them? Do they move to another area like in previous souls games? So far, I helped the dude in the cell and found Loretta's Bone, but he's not in the cell anymore. The pilgrim also said he'd serve me, and I said I'd get secret spells for the Sorcerer, but no idea what to do next to advance. Will I just run into them later a-la previous Souls games?

Check Firelink

They go back to firelink shrine

man the forest swamp area is fucking huge

😵

I ran around in there for way too long

A hint for what is referring to with
extinguishing the fires
it's talking about those
little shrines on those mounds with the stairs

Not a story spoiler. More like "don't waste an hour running around that godforsaken swamp" spoiler

Anyone else getting lots of crashes? Seems to be connected to the bonfires, like I play fine when not near them, but when I get to a bonfire the game will crash within like a minute or so of it.

The auto hide HUD is such a great feature. Makes taking spur of the moment SS so much easier.

What sword is that?

Having major problems summoning friends with the password system. Very disappointed, I figured by the 5th souls game I wouldn't have to wait up to 20 mins just to play with one friend. Might as well make a proper invite system.

Thread is moving fast, but I'm a few hours in and loving it so far.

I turned off blood to see if it would help performance, and I think I like the game better without blood. Fits the theme of these being ash creatures. Didn't really help performance though, lol.

R1 spam from Straightsword users... the struggle is real

My invasion build: Mildred - Level 18

Main weapon: Butchers Knife
Grass Crest shield
Thrall Mask
Worker Garb
Conjurator Manchettes
Worker Trousers

Chloranthy Ring - faster stamina regen
Estus Ring - more HP from Estus
Knight Slayers Ring - enemies lose more stamina when blocking attacks
Left Eye Ring - successive attacks restore HP

I got the idea from a reddit post and it's so fun, I lose almost as much as I win as my gear and weapon are only +2 but it's soo fun!

Just tell him/her/them to put their stamp in another spot, outside of the beaten path and not directly in front of the fog gate. I wouldn't bother with password summoning.

If someone here is playing as Captain Lucario and just helped me in undead settlement thanks. Your death was not in vain.

ODK boss aka
Old Demon King
is so weird

I stunned him out of his animation, his aoe still went off, and I just walked through it multiple times, taking no hits

I mean, I'll take it, and I won easily anyways, BUT STILL

DS3 is so good I think I'll have to play DS2 afterwards at some point when it's next on sale.

I see signs all over the place, but I found a couple quite spots and we did try this and got nothing sadly. We've only been able to summon each other twice so far in the last two hours.

Oh no, I think I fucked up with the Shrine Maiden that sells things.

Gave her the Dreamers Ashes but didn't tell her where I got them from because
she was sounding ultra dodgy when asking...

Question (8 hrs in Firelink Shrine spoilers):
so, I gave a glance around Firelink just now and one of my people is dead, the humpback sorceror dude in the right side back corner, and the one that's been telling me what to do is MIA entirely
. What happened?

Also, I missed the part where
Patches screwed me over, but he's in Firelink apologizing

Right, Abyss Watchers immediately became one of the best of the series didn't it? Such a good twist on the multi-enemy formula.

I can't even get past the second boss! That mother fucker just piles on through me and my summons! I'm running outta embers, man, I can't be spending that shit on you!

What's some good strats for
his second form, where he starts going apeshit?

Make sure to set their summon sign visibility option to 'unrestricted'. Looks like that's in the settings now. It used to be automatic and not an option :/
