How?
Maybe people just don't want console turn into Steam box?
You forget its a new, more efficient architecture.
Why do people claim NEO GPU is comparable to a R9 390?
Those numbers give 4198 GFLOPs while a 390 is capable of 5120 GFLOPs.
It is much closer to a R9 280X(4096 GFLOPs).
People should look at New 3DS instead of panicking, new machine to bring new consumer but at the same time you could keep going with your old.
Neo is not there for you to buy it immediately, they are not gonna put many exclusive games there (if any at all) and the benefits of power don't mean you will not be able to enjoy your existing PS4.
The PS Neo is there for new owners and for you, when you eventually decide to upgrade some time in the future.
edit: I was talking about current owners.
N3DS Enhanced Games
Here are the games that are enhanced on the N3DS (XL)

- Shorter loading times
- Miiverse/Browser not disable. System won't restart when shutting down games
Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate
- Shorter loading times
- better framerate
- better texture
- Miiverse/Browser not disabled. System won't restart when booting/shutting down the game
Shantae and the Pirate's Curse
-Use ZL or ZR to quickly swap between Inventory and Map screens.
-Use the Right Control Stick to Quick Select your magic and items.
-Tap the Touch Screen at any time to revert to Original controls.
Retro City Rampage DX
- smoother turbo mode
- quicker fast forwarding
Steamworld Heist
- Support stereoscopic 3D in 60fps (stereoscopic 3D 30fps on old 3DS)
Monster Hunter X
- shorter load time
- lesser pop-in
- Miiverse/Browser not disabled. System won't restart when booting/shutting down the game
Azure Striker Gunvolt
- ZL & ZR buttons to change weapons on the fly

SmileBASIC
- Programs will tend to run around 3 times faster on a New 3DS, and your code can even detect which model it's running on
Nintendo Badge Arcade
- faster load times
- it keeps more crane games in system memory. So when you cycle through the games at the arcade you see each one instantly, whereas on an original 3DS it can take some time to load them (a blind covers the glass screen. These blinds never appear on N3DS).
Marvel Lego Avengers
- better framerate in open world and general levels
Ace Combat Assault Horizon Legacy Plus
- (with version 2.1.0) stability improvement on frame drop in certain missions
- (with version 2.1.0) further use on the processing power on the new hardware
Rodea The Sky Soldier
- better framerate
I'm insinuating that if Sony goes down the path of taking out everything that makes consoles unique, eventually people are going to cut out the middleman and just build a good PC.
Maybe people just don't want console turn into Steam box?
You make absolutely no sense. No, a console is not a PC. Releasing a console, in the middle of the gen, with better specs (instead of an ordinary slim version) is actually nice.If Sony wants to make their consoles weak PCs without any of the benefits of the PC, they could be embarking on a slippery slope. Blind fanboyism and brand loyalty can only take you so far.
Good, because the PS is not turning into a Steam box. With or without the PS4K.Maybe people just don't want console turn into Steam box?
His original point is that you make a better console for $399. My point is, is that they easilt could of done at that price point, they just fell extremely unlucky. The premium is the amount of silicon space, not what's on it.And if Sony had used a more conventional architecture for the PS3 then it would have been entirely different last generation too. It's a silly way to keep looking at things.
Is GPU more of a bottleneck for PS VR stuff running on the original console?
Just wondering about the much more comparatively weaker CPU - I guess they could also push GPU compute.
A lot of these games dont seem to be very complicated on the sim side but it's probable as you go up to 90 or certainly 120 that things are tight on both CPU and GPU for these games. But the spec bump here will probably help most vr games move up to the next framerate target I would think. From 90 to 120 needs a neat 33% speed up which the CPU bump pretty much provides.

Console gaming still has it's benefits.
I just want to play at higher framerates without building a PC. By forcing developers to keep the games compatible with first generation PS4s, maybe higher framerates will be the go to difference for Neo mode.
I don't want better graphics or 4K, I just want games that don't give me a migraine, and maybe this will make up for the apparently shitty coding of Fallout 4 and Just Cause 3.
I would love even just 45fps for Bloodborne/DS3.
Calm after having the confirmation.
Can ditch Playstation safely now, without the fear of remorse.
Hopefully Xbox sticks to a more traditional model so I don't have to leave console gaming altogether. PC gaming isn't that bad nowadays though.
Actually nice for who? People with enough money to blow on another console. Can't afford another £400 every 3 years? Fuck you, play your 20fps game pleb.

How is it turning into a steam box ?

Yes, people who want a more powerful console, can get a more powerful console. People who don't want a more powerful console, can keep their ordinary PS4 / buy the ordinary cheaper one. Who says that the games are going to run with 20fps on the ordinary PS4? You? Okay! And who else? Sony? The developers? Where is your proof? Oh wait, let me guess, the 'see cross-gen / PS4 and PS3 games' excuse? Yeah right....Actually nice for who? People with enough money to blow on another console. Can't afford another £400 every 3 years? Fuck you, play your 20fps game pleb.
ExactlyYou have an option to upgrade if you don't upgrade then nothing changes for you.
Simple as that.
I hope all Neo games come with a 60 fps requirement.

Sell your vanilla model and use that to fund your mid-gen refresh. Going forward, simply don't buy launch models (assuming iterative consoles are here to stay).
Might wanna do that soon though, resale values might take a hit once this news becomes official.

Stop feeling insecure because other people can play their games with better graphics/performance. It doesn't make your experience worse.
Would, could, might...It's funny you say this, but the only reason why the Xbox was so weak is because they used all the die space on eSRAM. If the RAM solutions were the other way round, and the Xbox had GDDR5 with the amount of silicon premium it had, this would of been an entirely different generation.
. This restriction would probably also apply to all graphical options that affect gameplay such as Draw Distance (which would prevent a more powerful system to display enemies at a further range than the base console).
.
I hope all Neo games come with a 60 fps requirement.
Aren't most mp games already running 60fps at lower resolutions? In this case only the resolution would be higher so performance will be similar for all. SP games is where the advantage would be noticeable imoSorry if it's been covered but will be interesting to see what happens to online games with the NEO versions are running at a higher frame rate.

How is it different from Steam box aside from library if they give up traditional generation?
New hardware every 2-3 years maybe less, all play same titles with different performance. No more first party exclusive make use of latest hardware, just same ultra setting with more frames or more res.
This seems like wishful thinking on your behalf.
Having a Premium model next to a basic model doesn't suddenly invalidate peoples' preference for consoles, lol
No doubt some will wish to migrate to a PC ecosystem upon hearing this news, but so what? PlayStation is a global brand and will have significant user bases for their home consoles.
How do you know games are going to run worse on the PS4? You don't.How do you know games won't start running worse on PS4 when PS4K becomes the target?
My guess is Q1 2017.Any estimated release date?
You probably shouldn't disparage the knowledge of others in this case. 1440p rendering is easily within the realm of a 4.2GFlop GPU's capabilities. It's twice the detail of 1080p and can be easily scaled to 4K for output to a UHD television.
How do you know games are going to run worse on the PS4K? You don't.
Would it make more sense to target the ordinary PS4? You know, the '36 millions sold" PS4? Not the "not released" PS4K.

That would seal the deal for me. I'm Not too concerned about medium to high shadows, textures etc as I'm happy with what we get now on a £299 machine.I hope all Neo games come with a 60 fps requirement.
