I agree with what was said a few pages ago about speculating about power rumors being fairly boring. Also in regards to the above, a major factor in Wii U's lack of support apparently had to do with the Wii U devkits and developer tools and support being incredibly lacking, since Nintendo had seemingly grown rather arrogant after the success of the Wii, assuming everyone and their grandmother would want to put games on the Wii U (that's my theory anyway).
That being said, I think there's a good amount of discussion to be had on some of the features (read: gimmick/hook/innovation) that NX might have, based on hints from quotes, the patents filed, what's technologically feasible, etc.
For a new input/control method, I've presented my theory that they could use eye tracking with a camera in the controller in order to allow the user to control games on the TV with their eyes. In other words, look at a certain area on the TV and an aiming reticle moves there, or potentially a lot of other fun uses. It's a gimmick which wouldn't add much at all to the cost of the console, allow devs to just use traditional controls only if they want, and do something which hasn't been done before. Also, we have patents using eye tracking technology, along with the new 3DS using eye tracking in the enhanced 3D tech.
So can anyone here think of other types of control/input methods that correspond to the "brand new concept" and "competitors won't steal our ideas" quotes? Maybe something which Nintendo has previously toyed with, but never focused on? I think we can come up with some great theories if we speculate about that.
It is boring, but we don't even have a hint on what the gimmick could be so... *shrug* I think it would interesting if it's not just another weird controller though and instead something truly different. If it really is a cool and interesting new concept, we'll never think of it. We'd have to think out of the box. The way that they're hyping that up, I think whatever they're doing isn't just an evolution of something we've seen before from them. I also feel like the eye tracking idea is bad since it doesn't work well from a distance or with glasses. If it is something we're seen before though, I'm betting on AR as a counter to VR (and that would still be somewhat cheap).
On another note, that random Spring games preview just 8 days before the investors meeting, where they almost certainly plan to announce when they'll first talk about NX and their next mobile game? Hm...
