Alright, here's a few more tips: She claims that Mario is going to be able to jump and break some kind of blocks in the new game. She hasn't seen the game, but from what she's seen it's pretty colorful. The actual NX console will ship with some kind of cable, but she wasn't too clear on that. Zelda is going to feature a horse. She also says that there will be a power button.

Again, with a grain of salt folks.

My inside source told me it's the next-gen Nintendo Cereal System, so pretty sure you're full of it.

I will fight you.

Skyrim was in HD, even if there was a skyrim on Wii wouldnt of sold as much as the HD twins versions. Even though Wii had a larger install base

Twilight Princess ended up selling almost as well as The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion despite Oblivion being released across three platforms.

I've seen this quoted multiple times saying how everything it says is correct and that's not even close to being true. Zelda stopped being inspired by western fantasy not long after it was created. Making it more western will get the series more sales (it could also lose sales if it becomes to homogenous with the industry) but it's not going to make them better nor will it result in them coming faster. The whole thing about leading the industry again is just idealistic, A-grade bullshit and only makes sense if you are a fan of dick-measuring contests. Western studios may have found success on the backs of Zelda 1 and OoT but they don't care about the series anymore because they've forged their own paths. Even if Zelda U/NX "perfects" open-world gaming, they will take little from it if they take anything at all. If you really want Zelda to be the biggest franchise again, you should be advocating they turn it into the fantasy answer to The Division and Destiny.

Zelda no longer being especially inspired by Western fantasy/RPGs doesn't change that that's where the series came from, and moreover "Zelda stopped doing ______ a long time ago" is a really weird argument to make when even the creators of the series are behaving as though they need to change what they've been doing lately.

I mean, that's like looking at Wii U and saying "Nintendo stopped trying to compete in consoles a long time ago" and then trying to pass that off as though Nintendo should be praised for making consoles that are unappealing. I don't think anyone is thinking about NX in any other terms than how well it succeeds at fixing all the problems that Wii U had; likewise, I'd imagine Nintendo is trying to think about Zelda in terms of how well it succeeds at fixing all the problems people had with the other recent games - including outright disinterest.

So you're saying that Zelda U's art style was a mistake?

I don't think that art style is going to do the game any favors.

People worried about "over stuffing E3" with NX information if Nintendo don't show the thing before E3, please remember past events: Don't forget Nintendo usually tells little about new consoles at E3.

-First, they don't discuss specs, dev kits, engines, so unless they radically change policies, that topic's likely out of the question, and won't spend a second on it (maybe just a quick tech demo).

-I don't expect they to announce prices or launch date (only "this winter" or "2016"), as they usually announces these details closer to the actual launch (September likely).

-They also won't share all the details on the OS, online features and other data on the infrastructure until a later date, or just mere days before launch when they have a final version of the software or the press receives reviews consoles.

So, in the end, they'll only talk about the name, show the console (I hope lol, remember Wii U reveal!), the controller, two or three accessories (and not in detail), a brief video with some key third party developers and some launch-window games. Enough for a nice not-overstuffed 45-60min presentation. Don't expect anything else.

I hope (wish) they to show more than that, and before E3, but keeping in mind the above, we should dial our hype down a bit. They're perfectly capable of do a barebones presentation (cards close to their chests and such), and don't show the whole thing until the fall.

I'm going in with the expectation that they might mention a name, and likely won't. That's about all you can do, really, without being totally disappointed.

If NX really is a "new concept," and really will have a large pipeline of games, I'm not really sure how they can compress both the reveal for the console and the games in an hour-long presentation while doing either much justice.

Forget specs, release dates, etc. - it's going to be important that no one walk away confused by the new concept, and it's going to be just as important that they showcase as many games as possible in the most exciting way possible.

They have to do a "splash"...

Based on?

Duh, but there is more data than just sales data that suggests cell shaded is less appealing than a realistic style in the West.

I'm not really sure why people want to debate this. We aren't saying it is a better style. Just that the West likes it better. Is this really surprising?

One game can't possibly provide enough data, especially with all of the variables in its favor and the ones against SS. I just feel that the data available isn't good enough to make such a sweeping statement as "the art style was the biggest factor in Skyward Sword's poor sales." I do agree that the realistic style likely has more appeal, but I don't think that cell shading is a death sentence; in fact, I personally feel that Zelda U's style doesn't even fall into the "kiddie" category and will only hurt sales on the extreme end. If it sells less than Skyward Sword, then I'll agree that cell shading should die in the series for the sake of sales, but for now what you guys are saying is no less conjecture than what I'm saying. If I just take the logic you're giving, then Zelda games shouldn't ever take a dark approach because MM sold poorly compared to OoT.

Then the launch is screwed due to lack of hype. They need to change their policy radically or this console will be discontinued by 2018. That might seem harsh, but they need to change their approach to one that works or they'll end up being too low-key and the public won't even know that there's a console too buy until they have their money saved for something else.

Also, you're forgetting about the time they'll need to spend talking about the gimmick and proving that it works, and then they'll want to show off the graphics and how they're so much better than Wii U. That can easily be 30 minutes right there.

Agreed. I mean, i was rewatching E3 2010, where they were able to announce a shit-ton of games and reveal the 3DS as well. It was an epic show, maybe the last E3 i really enjoyed, so i guess that maybe they can fit everything in 60-90 minutes, but there are other reasons why i still think they should reveal the console before, and leave launch date and line up, price and stuff like that for E3.

Same hahaha

I mean, i don't expect anything major about the console being shared at the investors meeting, but dropping the date of the reveal would be pretty huge, especially if it's in a dedicated event before E3.

They just need a good video explaining with clear examples the potential of the "new concept". It depends really what kind of "concept" we are talking about: something about the controller? (Revolution) new way to display graphics? (3DS) new ways to share games? (unified account, all-digital) upgradable console? (SCD). Some things are easier to explain than others...

Also, I think they won't show that many games at first. Only launch and near-launch ones, and maybe one or two big games expected in the next 18 months (in teaser trailer form). I hope I'm wrong though. I want to see games built from the ground up for NX and not only Wii U ports/early cancelled games that shows its origins.

I believe they'll make a Special Direct before E3 to show the basics: console, name, concept.., and at E3 the usual Digital Event with games, followed by other Nintendo Directs across the summer to expand the details until a final launch Direct (unboxing, price, date, OS) similar to the Wii U launch, but I hope they do it better this time.

But I really don't expect them to show everything this week/may, or everything at E3. That was my point. They won't overstuff either way.

I guess I'm assuming that the new concept for NX isn't going to be as trivial as a 3D screen that doesn't require 3D glasses, especially given how familiar most people probably were with 3D glasses and 3D video games already. NX is a "new concept," not an old concept... supposedly.

Yeah, it does depend quite a bit on what the new concept is.

Judging by Nintendo's history, though, I'd be amazed if input devices and form factors weren't somehow involved.

I think this is probably going to end up being a lot of games.

They've been sitting on whatever idea will make up the underpinning of NX since early 2015 at the very latest (probably longer than that judging by the restructure for the hardware division).

Damn still nothing from this thread??

Looks like we really are waiting till the briefing guys!

Bummer no direct has been announced yet

Looms like they might just say "see you bitches at E3"

That still doesn't cover the potential for Nintendo to get overshadowed or for there not being enough time to get the hype to permeate the mainstream.

If it released the same time as skyrim it wouldnt have. Everybody would of shit on TP graphics. in 2011

:O
I wonder if that means they have connections with TPC or Game Freak or something.

Someone is gonna leak before nintendo. I can feel it in my bones.

Yeah thats what i thought too but its looking more and more like Nintendo is going to have full control here

Fucking bananas

Your bones...the ninjas are coming for them.
tumblr_nvknhoaUPg1u4hy4go1_250.gif

I'll bring the fight to the ninjas!

But if that was the case, then Game Freak wouldn't give a flying fuck until the handheld dev kits start going out. Why would they of all people give him NX info?
Game Freak made Tembo the Badass Elephant on the ps4, xb1, and pc
Might as well port that over too :P

...bananas you say? DKC3 NX by Retro confirmed!

So when does the Q4 earnings release come out? I don't expect anything substantial from the briefing except maybe their next mobile game.

So they still haven't officially announced a briefing for the day after the earnings release. Do they usually wait this long before putting the briefing on the calendar?

Remember the Rayman Legends leak? amiibo/NFC was for the first time ever hinted at in that video, years before it ever happened.

Only RL never used amiibo/NFC in the end.

I remember that video well. It promised Rabbids! And seemed like a very intentional leak video though it probably was just for in-house promotional purposes.
