Enter The Gungeon |OT| Praise the gun

So on the rat

An easy way to make him stop stealing your items, just teleport away, teleport back using the pink swirly thing, and do it twice/3 times.

You don't even have to shoot him. After the 2nd time he stops showing up.

I don't think I've ever had 3 keys drop on the same run, seems this is massively lucky based or am I doing something wrong?

You start with one key so you just need two to drop in two floors. It's not that bad honestly. Just don't open anything.

Shoot the chests instead and if the sewer guy is in the shop you can sell the junk to him. On the PS4 version this currently gets you about 50 cash per time, though I think that's going to change after the patch.

Whoa, for real? That got a hardcore nerf on PC, he only gives you 3 (?) casings per piece. Hard to believe they didn't balance that before the game shipped, especially since brown chests are pretty expendable if you're looking long-term.

Yeah, he always drops a Gold casing, which I think is worth 50 alone, so if you get two brown chests it's easy money. I'm not looking forward to it getting patched.

I just can't get passed level 2. I had a very good run going, I had a powerful rail gun and a vortex gun and 3 full hearts and 2 armour when I entered the second level.

By time I got to boss I had one heart left and for some reason I was unable to enter the shop (mustbbe a glitch as the door never opened and there was no other way in to it).

Managed to get the boss (she is Medusa) and beat her to half health but I couldn't do it.

Words can't describe how annoyed I was. I have a 600+ losing streak on Binding of Issac as I try to get to the end with The Lost but this game has made me even more angry. Its not like a lost run where one hit kills and you can be unlucky, its your own undoing and stupid mistakes cost you. (When I say angry I don't mean thrown the controller away I mean swear under my breath...)

Also I detest that enemy which is the coffin that opens up and fires bullets whixh stop and then they all point to you and go in your direction. It really causes me big problems.

For the shop, it's possible that the door was locked and you needed a key to get inside(That happens sometimes.)

As for the coffin, really mastering the dodge is needed to get through the early parts. Using cover like tables is also a must so you don't get hit while clearing the level. It takes time though. For the longest time I had trouble with the 2nd boss(The snake boss still gets me..) but now I can consistently clear up to the 4th room.

Sometimes it's a matter of luck more than skill(In items, random events, drops)

I didn't know you could shoot the chest and sell the junk to the sewer guy in the store. :O

Yeah.

Junk making 50 bucks is amazing.

I hope it never goes away.

That's amazing. I think I will shoot the brown chests all the time now.

I have noticed that in the first level I have been getting a lot better, being able to clear while losing only 1/2 heart. Especially Bullet King, man I couldn't get near him to begin with and hated getting him but now he is easy to deal with. Its going to be a slog but I have all the time in the world to get there...

They already changed that on PC. Junk is only worth like 3 coins/bullets/money now.

Edit: scrolled up and saw that this had already been pointed out. enjoy it while it lasts ps4 peeps.

Nooooo :( getting chamber 5 shortcut open is gonna be a bitch. I better get a move on.

Once you fight the bosses multiple times, you get a sense of their patterns and what each attack does(And how to best dodge it)

It's definitely a game that gets better the more you play it.

Finally defeated the last boss on a pretty awesome run that had me finding the metronome on the first floor and then getting the owl a few levels later. I also rescued the princess character on my next run and she opened up a shop in the breach.

What do her blessings give you and is worth 6 of the hegemony credits?

So duct taping a Unicorn Horn to the Proton Backpack, while undoubtedly the coolest visual thing I've seen so far in the game, ended up not working as well as I'd hoped and actually seemed to only register the damage for one of the beams. Bummer.

I had two of the best synergies last game:

- The owl with one of the blank ammolets.
- the omega bullets with the 'magical' sniper.

Such a deadly combination. Unfortunately I didn't play well against the first bosses, and ended on the sixth floor with only 1 heart.

Can anyone confirm there are no shops or chests on the last floor?

Never seen a chest or shop on the 6th floor. Only thing I've ever seen is a red Gun Muncher that took 8 or 9 of my guns without paying out.

The first floor of my first run after installing this patch:

I've never seen that item

Probably glitched on the ps4 version too

And it's a shame it's been glitched for so long because mechanically, it's one of the cooler items in the game IMO:

(Tagging just in case)

When you die, you're brought back to life at the floor's entrance. You get one heart container, your character's starting items, and nothing else. On the map, you'll see a marker on the spot where you died. I can only assume this is your "soul" and once you pick it up, you'll get back any belongings you had lost. The problem is, of course, that all the enemies on the floor have now respawned. So you have to fight your way back to your soul with just a single heart container and your starter weapon.

Now, I can only assume that this is how it works because I died about 10 rooms away from the 6th floor entrance. I had no chance of making it back. Knowing what I know now, I would've died intentionally one room away from the entrance since I was already low on health. Would've given me a legitimate shot of getting my soul back.

BTW, I found it in a black chest so it's gonna be a very rare find.

So Gun Soul is a neat item and given the game it's referencing, how it works isn't much of a surprise:

Your weapons are probably dropped near you body(Kinda like in Co-op) I imagine. Sounds neat though. It's not broken where you get full life and get to keep your guns, but it gives you a second chance..

Shoot I was having a good run on the first map, but I chaff grenaded the shop, and in the next level(I was looking to buy the Primer) and the shopkeeper was still gone.

Well, never robbing the shop again.

Does every floor have a secret room?

Can the walls be broken by guns other than then the starter weapon? Or do some walls require something special?

Edit-

The Pig is amazing. Better than the Gungeoneers soul.

I am getting worse at the game now!, probably because I started playing Alienation!!!

Same. I started playing other games and came back to this and couldn't even beat floor 4.

When I left, I could clear every run with pretty much any set of weapons.

I think it's because on games like Alienation your attentional priorities are completely different. On Alienation you're better off looking at where enemies are approaching, and your accuracy, so you end up looking where you're firing. On Gungeon, because of the amount of bullets and dodging required, you're much better off spending your visual attention on the bullets and your character, ignoring the enemies.

It's like bullet hell games. They're not too bad if you stop looking at what you're shooting at and just focus on evading the bullets. That's why a lot of them feature weapons that fire at the entire screen in front of you.

On gungeon it's easier to do this with a controller because of the crazy aim assist. Means you'll always hit your target provided you merely aim in their vague direction.

But yeah, for me it's just a matter of remembering that and shifting this visual attentional priorities, then I'm back to doing well again.

The pig is incredible.

when he sacrificed himself for the sniper shot I was over the moon

Came back to full health, Then i still died anyway. :( Poor pig died for nothing.

his little walking animation is great, and despite his shifty looks he takes that bullet for you.

I'm really loving the animations in the game. It's so charming. Like the little guys that power up bullets, if they're not in the trance state sometimes they have this look that says 'uhhhhhhhhhhh....so...uhhhh...' and if you kill everyone but them in the room, they just become cross eyed and then charge at you if you get close.

Lots of small adorable details.

You don't even have to shoot him. After the 2nd time he stops showing up.

Did they revert this back to launch behavior? Haven't played in several days, but one of the patches made the rat ignore your attempts to run him off. He'd run when you show up, but would still grab the item if you left it and moved on regardless of how many times you scared him off.

Im playing on the PS4 so idk if the patch changed anything

Are the cracks in the walls for secret rooms visible or do they need to be shot at in order to reveal the crack? I know blanks open them but I can't figure out if broken walls are already visible.

Secret rooms are damn hard to find. I swear sometimes I go around shooting every single wall with the sawed off shotgun and still never see a damn crack.

The brick of cash is a really useful item, but the damn 2 key cost means I never ever grab it. Especially when 90% of the secret rooms I find are half a heart.
