Enter The Gungeon |OT| Praise the gun

Ugh, I can never decide what to buy. Everything is just so tempting:

The shopkeeper is forever in my good graces after selling me a Sling on the first floor for a ridiculously low price (like 40 casings). I almost felt bad stealing from him later.

I know this game is ripe with content so my question is now that i beat the game for the first time with the marine should i be looking to do/expect anything different in beating it again with the marine?

From what i've gathered from this thread and various posts, each character has a past that you have to kill. I'm assuming that involves getting the gun components found on each floor. Is that what i should be focused on if i'm trying to beat the game again?

beating it with pretty good consistency now, first time beating it back to back just now

killed the
pilots past in the process

looking forward to doing it with the other 3

(really love this game)

Yeah you want to start collecting the parts as you go through with each character.

Yeah you dint need them all in one run but it is possible. As long as you get the parts to the blacksmith on level 5 your good forever. I did it in 2 runs for example. Bought primer and part from dragun on one run then worried about the other 2 on another. Although that both easy to get even without wings.

Just met the
old king
, yeah gonna take some time to beat him.

Guess stoking up on blanks and armor.

I found him to be the hardest boss in the gane. Did him first time but rest of run was ruined in process.

Yet to even try for chamber 6 though so I'm sure that will change.

Fight sabre is still the goat.

Ugh, i'm so mad at myself. I got wax wings on the first or second chamber from a cursed deal and got all the components up to the 4th chamber and died on the 4 pillars

I have a love/hate relationship with how brutal this game can be sometimes. The game is so skill based that you never really feel like you have a build that straight up carries you through the game and trivializes everything ala binding of isaac (atleast in the handful of hrs i've put in thus far). I love how the game is balanced as such that you're not going to be able to just buy everything you want or manipulate the system too much into getting the things you want (again, very different from isaac) This naturally makes your successes feel more rewarding but at the same time i find myself frustrated when resource drops and other things feel like they're working against you (i.e. needing a key to get into the shop)

Getting heart containers seems to be critical to having long term success. The first and only time i beat the game i had about 6 hearts and super space turtle which is a fantastic item.

Yeah space turtle is powerful. Just finished it again just now with a wingman upgrade. But you o ly get that when you kill the pilot's past. There's quite a few sidekicks though. Yeah perfecting the bosses on forst 2 or 3 floors usually means success or not for the rest of the run.

so i searched and could only find posts online regarding the steam version, but has anyone else's game save on PS4 reset back to zero progress?

i just loaded up the game for the first time in about 2 weeks and my progress got completely reset. i exited out, downloaded my most recent save (4/19) and went back into the game, but all my progress is still gone.

kinda freaking out because i worked really hard to get all of those items and guns unlocked...

I think if you delete and reinstall the game, your save will show back up. They released and then rolled back a bad patch that hid the save file.

Another great run lost because the game got stuck forever generating the last level. Exactly what the patch was supposed to fix.

Killed all four pasts as of now. I'm getting to Chamber 5 boss 90% of the time now, and beating him when I get there a good 50-60% of the time.

I can consistently get to floor 3 with no problem. Only way i can improve up to that point is if i can consistently perfect the bosses. The only boss i can perfect 95% of the time is the blob in the sewers and of course that's the one who doesn't give you an HP bonus. ARGH

Level 3 is where things start to fall apart for me. The shaman can be total fucking dicks. Especially the one that buffs the other enemies because 90% of the time that fucker is held up in some kind of nook that requires you to run passed all the other enemies/bullets to get to him.

Assuming i don't make too many stupid mistakes, getting to the boss is no problem but it if i run into the tank instead of the cannonball the run is usually over at that point. If not then i'm surely limping my way onto the 4th floor which is where things quickly start crashing down if you don't have your health in check

*sigh* progress is progress i guess

How do you guys approach using your blanks? Will you use them on the floor as needed or will you try to save them for the boss? I really try not to use blanks at all before the boss (atleast until i get to the 4th floor where it defintely gets quite bullet helly sometimes)

For me, im developing a 'panic' reflex where I know I'm going to be hit and there is no way out, so I reflexively hit the blank. Doesnt matter what im fighting, losing a blank is better than getting hit to me.

I think I said this before but every time you roll if you hold both Roll AND switch weapon at the same time you can slow-down time and see if your roll is going to land you into a bullet.

You can then press the blank button to save yourself.

I think this is pretty good tech that I haven't seen anyone use.

See for me I feel like i'd rather take a few hits on the floor and save blanks as best i can in hopes that i'll get a new heart container.

This seems like a sound strategy but for me personal i'm generally in that "shit is hitting the fan" mode too frequently to have to think that diligently about pressing another button while trying to dodge a matrix of bullets. Hell, half the time i forget to use my active item when i could use it most cuz im so busy trying to dodge things. Prime example being that i forget i had elder blank on my fight with dragun.

I shamelessly use the weapon menu slowdown as a lifeline if things are getting too frantic.

I just had the ignominious distinction of dying during a past -- specifically, the pilot's. I liked the gameplay twist but after
an hour of playing the game normally, the transition to a traditional shmup just short-circuited my brain.

All controls and aiming are the same there. Nothing changed except the shape of your character.

omg

So I was in the Abbey of the True Gun, and I guess an enemy glitched because the doors wouldn't open, and under one of those bullet statues there was a red flashing. Uuuughhhhhh

I've played about 15 times and was on my best run yet. Killed the second chamber boss without getting it, full health, got a health container as a reward and an armor. Had enough shells to buy a heart locket, so I'm at 5 full health, 1 armor, had The Judge gun (really liked it. shoots fast. reloads fast. has a nice effect on last round), also had the passive to increase accuracy and the passive to speed up shots. And guess what, there's no exit from the boss room. I had to restart :(

I was fighting the gorgon the other day and
a fairy showed up and started shooting me, ending the perfect run
. What the hell was that all about?

I guess it is better to save blanks for the boss, as all that matters is not getting hit to get another heart container. Getting hit elsewhere can just be healed up.

The Gun Soul is a cool idea but extremely hard to actually use, especially since another item (The Pig) is a way better version of the exact same thing. I appreciate the concept and that it can't be too overpowered, but maybe make it so you keep your guns but only have half a heart to get back to your body? Or maybe I'm just bitter after getting stuck on the Forge with the Pilot's shit starter gun twice in a row, lol.

I think I got the hang of this game now. I've consistently gotten to the final boss in my past 3 runs. I even Master Round'd it once with a pretty mediocre gun (don't remember the name but it's the one that shoots two shots that split up and oscillate like sin/cosine waves).

3rd attempt at
chamber 6 and 1st attempt fighting the lich. Got him down to 10% on his 2nd form but lost it. Getting close!
