Modern Warfare Remastered won't be sold separately

Instead of making a box with MW1-3 and release it for 60€ like Uncharted they do it like this. Figures, it's Activision...

They will probably release the Modern Warfare Trilogy (1-3) as a separate retail release down the road for $59.99, and people will be able to get Modern Warfare that way. However if you wanted just the first Modern Warfare standalone or at least even early access to it, you'll have to buy Infinite Warfare's Legacy Edition or higher.

I don't even know why I'm asking this, but is there any possibility the COD 4 remaster will have dedicated servers and a real server browser on PC like the original? The original even supported mods, but I know that's too much to ask of IW/Activision in 2016.

Too sleazy for me. I'm not a fan but I buy for my brother whenever a new one comes out and even he's put off the forced purchased to get mw. They will release as standalone in the future.

I knew this would be too good to be true.

Taking CoD to the far future is a risky move for the fanbase, so creating a remake of the most renowned title in the franchise will be a great incentive if bundled with the game. It will undoubtedly jack up the sales and general revenue of Infinite Warfare, so selling it separately would work against that plan. After all, Activision/IW don't give a shit if their fans get their hands on MWR at all, all the game is is a marketing tool to move copies of their new title through bundled nostalgia.

Also this explains why there are only 10 multiplayer maps included with MWR if it cannot be sold separately: they want to bundle it with Infinite Warfare DLC for the same reasons as above, to bundle nostalgia with Infinite Warfare to once again generate sales. Honestly, they'll probably withhold classics like Overgrowth for DLC to help add to that incentive. It's sort of the same way Treyarch DLC works with Zombies.

Now once initial hype for infinite Warfare dies down in a few months and Activision sees the sales it wants, then they'll release it digitally. This will probably occur after the DLC rotation has been completed so they can create a complete bundle and sell it for $40, possibly with physical copy hype.

Calling it now.

I'm super confused about this since they put the time in to doing multiplayer maps.

Very very strange decision.

Because they aren't trying to compete with themselves. A lot of people are going to pay the $80 to have MWR. It makes sense from a business standpoint.

And I'd be shocked if they don't see this 3 months down the line separately. They most certainly will lol.

Looks like I'm waiting then. It'd be a different story if the 30% off preorder sales over here covered non-standard editions but they don't. I'm in no rush to get Infinite Warfare or play a remaster.

As much as I loved Cod 4 since the beta way back in the day, I won't be buying this.

I'd pay full price for MW1R but I won't be forced to buy a new cod game for it.

Same way I wouldn't buy a PS4 for SFV.

I can wait a year or two for the standalone

Activision ain't stupid. They know a lot of people want MWR, and they're not going to let that demand eclipse their biggest game of the year. Especially when it legitimately poses a threat to their own game's popularity.

A remaster would probably cost like 40-60$ anyway. 20$ more and you also get a brand new game? That's fine with me. This might be the first COD I get since MW2.

Is there any word if the PC and XBONE versions will have crossplay?

...what?

To be fair it looks like MW is having much more done to it visually than the Uncharted Trilogy did. I don't think Trilogy boxset for MW was ever on the cards for this reason.

The FAQ is worded very carefully to allow for a later standalone release. Look at the tense. They could have easily said "It will only ever be available with IW". They opted not to.

Obviously they are using it to shift $80 copies of the new COD, but I bet 3/6 months later you can buy a standalone release of it. They've left themselves plenty of room for this.

If it is just a download code included in the box, I bet there will be grey market copies of it available. Alternatively, as others have said, it will be easy enough to buy the game, and then sell/trade in IW.

It's a smart business move, but certainly not in their customers best interest.

Well they have another Call of Duty coming out in 2017/2018/2019/2020/2021/2022. They can do a similar strategy for remasters of MW2/3, WaW and CODBLOPS1/2.

I don't know what else people expected lol -- Activision is a business after all and they are trying to sell their next big game. Yeah maybe it's not 100% consumer, but I guess it is what it is.

Don't be surprised if they release it months later though -- they just want to sell as many copies first.

There's no way MW:R is getting DLC when it's attached to another game like this, I wish they had all of the maps, or at least more than 10.

Bobby wants those record profits and the mega bonus while also showing COD ain't sliding. Sucks but it will totally work.

They will release it stand alone one day but for a substantial price most definitely. Ah well, I'm in no rush to play it.

It most definetly will in the future, there is absolutely no way it won't. They are saying this improve Infinite Warfare's sales.

ideally it should be $40 because its not a complete remaster (10 maps), but they've managed to convince you to pay them $80 and consider it a good deal.

its like the exact reaction they were probably aiming for. i will end up buying it too and selling infinite warfare immediately, unless they tie it to the disc which would be even more fucked than just tying it to infinite warfare

Are you kidding?

Do you not see the genius in selling map DLCs/season pass that includes Infinite Warfare and Modern Warfare maps. It's totally what they'll do. Get three IF maps and 2 MW maps plus Zombie, XP or whatever in the first DLC drop.

They got me by the nuts, then.
I am sure they will sell it separately a few months later, though. Hopefully the community is big enough at launch, it's only $20 more I suppose, so it's not too bad.
