Overwatch Beta Thread: Cheers Love, The Beta's Here!

Seriously, if this Server bullshit doesn't stop by the end of the beta, I'm cancelling the amazon preorder and not buying the game.

I'm not going to purchase a game that doesn't even fucking launch.

It's weaker, but it serves the same general role of sustained, ranged fire support. Perhaps I will reach the mythical threshold of understanding you speak of and it won't auto-target people across the map as soon as they come into view.

you can be as upset as you want but you can literally swap to hanzo, widow, reinhardt, junkrat, pharah, etc. and totally wreck his turret. it's REALLY not that hard and if you're being deterred by a lvl 1 turret afterwards then you're not pushing your advantage.

Anyone here like Zenyatta? His basic attack + orb of discord deals decent amount of damage and can heal from long range.. I even got 15 kills in one of the game... lol

Does Reaper just beat D.Va clean? I do great with her, but I swear to god that every time a square up on Reaper I can't beat him. Last match I had infrared from WM and a walked around a corner on Reaper prefiring, shot him 3-4 times, then buddy turns at me while I'm still holding the fire button, doesn't even move, and stands there and shoots me dead while I'm still dumping rounds into him.

Like, I know he's supposed to do damage and it's probably pellet count on a big character but shit.

While armor helps versus shotgun, keep in mind dva's head is like at the very center of her silhouette making her very prone to spread damage like shotguns or tracer

Any love here for Zarya? I haven't tried her yet, but I just watched a gameplay video and she seems potentially beastly.

Absolutely! You need to wrap your head around her energy mechanic (most importantly, intentionally drawing fire and stepping into mines with shield to build energy), but once you do she becomes a really effective psuedo-tank/support and damage dealer. On top of that, coordinating her ult with one of the the many aoe dps ults is super satisfying.

One thing that I would like to know is if enemies build ult charge if they hit Zarya shields. If they do, then that tactic of intentionally taking damage can be potentially harmful, if it allows enemies to build ult faster.

Wow, you're demanding for a beta player.

I haven't been able to get on the open beta at all and I lost 8 hours of the beta weekend because of the same issue.

The game doesn't launch for me and neither thread in the tech support forums concerning those with the same issue has gotten any sort of help or response from Blizzard.

Would you buy a game that you quite likely wouldn't be able to play?

A reinhardt took me the whole duration of the charge and never hit a wall. we were both shocked when we stopped although I got the fuck out of range asap

Did you open a ticket yet? That sucks tho man :/

What's that got to do with the server?
Servers worked perfectly fine few hours ago

I haven't played a blizzard game in a while so I'm a bit rusty with the ticket system. Does overwatch have a specific ticket section?

the message I keep getting is "Lost connection to server"

hence me exclaiming server bullshit

my end, their end, whatever, I can't play.
Yo, is there a GAF community for this? Love to have some people to play with

You're essentially in it.

I already knew this from the closed beta, but man this game is fucking fun.

It's more fun when you win on defense AND offense on Volskaya.

It's even more fun when you're sipping whiskey while playing.

I need to stop playing Overwatch so I can finish Dark Souls 3 already.

Mei is looking like the greatest support character of all time.

Its just so satisfying to split someone off from their team with the wall, freeze'm and pop an icicle in to their face. Her entire kit is really fun, getting mass freezes with her ultimate on a point or a choke while your team is there to mop up is soooo goood.

My last game we were offense on Volskaya and were trying to attack point B. They had a Widowmaker, Hanzo, and Mei that were completely wrecking us, and no one wanted to switch heroes. Eventually I had enough and switched to Soldier: 76, who I thought was a pretty legit counter to most of those heroes. Took them all out and gave our team enough space to push to the point and finally capture it.

Hero switching is clutch. Get to know it.

I play as D.Va or Mercy depending on if there is a tank/healer already. So often when I know we need a different character for a counter I think I'm the wrong person to do it. (Because then we lose a tank or healer)

Really liking Mercy, didn't realize you could glide in the air... oops. Also for that don't know in the options you can make her beam just toggle on instead of having to hold down the mouse button. As well as making it so Guardian Angel doesn't just jump you to your current beam target.

I never really got into TF2 and I don't usually care for objective-based game modes in shooters, but something about this is really doing it for me.

Also: Mei seems realllllly good.

Go here while logged in on your account.

https://us.battle.net/support/en/

Go to technical>Click on talk to a game master>Make a ticket

Seems like you obviously aren't the only one with the issue, but Blizzard CS is great so worth a shot. Hopefully you get to play soon this game is really fun.

Edit: Wow it seems you can't put in a ticket for Overwatch? that's.... weird.

Where is that at? I saw people talking about it but I cannot find it anywhere.

The thing this game does great is makes you feel like a badass with the smallest of accomplishments. My team can be having a horrible game yet a random Roadhog hook of a Pharah in the air prepping her ult makes you feel like king of the world.

It's crazy how many hard counters there are though. Was not expecting to be rotating characters this frequently.

Go to options > controls there's a drop down menu with all the heroes. You can set different binds and such for each hero.

Oh christ, I'm retarded. I totally missed that the 10 times I looked in the menu. I was just scrolling down immediately.

Thanks man. That thing was driving me insane.

I'm never playing support in pubs, people are idiots. I ended up pushing more than even tanks. it's ridiculous how much I can stay alive to keep them alive but they dont even bother looking behind them. It's annoying when I'm trying to help the team by going support and they just take it as a it being a team deathmatch game

Zarya's alternate fire tends to dump on turrets from my experience. Pretty safe to you as well, especially if you're popping around corners real quick for shots.

I think that's the beauty of Overwatch. I never thought I'd like it, but it's just amazing in practice. I fully expected to play maybe 1-2 heroes, but I've come to love playing with the majority of them.

Played some more just now with friends, game is so much fun. I played a bunch of Mei and I'm really starting to like her gameplay. Ice Wall is a fun button with a lot of use, one of the best things I like doing is separating a Reinhart or healer from their team and ganking them solo. Her ultimate is really fun too, definitely had some great plays with that.

Still enjoying Soldier 76 on the offense side of things, nice well rounded character. I really did the heal he has as well. I also love it when I read a Tracer's teleports right and drop a nade on their feet.

Lucio is my favorite of the healer bunch so far. I can't aim worth a damn with his gun but I enjoy the general gameplay he has going for him.

Still not sure who I like among the tanks. Reinhart is fun and has good tools, but I find myself getting ganked fast when I mess up a charge or trying to recharge my shields.

Shit, I've put like 6 hours into the Beta. I think I can now say with confidence that Mercy will be my main since a majority of said hours I have played as her. Thinking I should also pick a alternate too but I'm not sure who it'll be at the moment.

Try D.Va. Everyone seems to love her. I've played her a lot and I still can't figure out the first thing about how to play her properly. She feels really weak to me, but I'm probably just not clued in to how to best utilize her kit.

Try Lucio. You won't regret it.

Another character I didn't expect to like but am enjoying is Roadhog. I love yanking people (especially Bastions) and fucking them up and when you're down a bit just duck around a corner and take a hit of your inhaler.

Just don't like his design though. The alt costume that notworksafe got is good though.

Why is there a cat on this Glencairn glass?

Zarya is such a beast. I really enjoy the little minigame of intentionally baiting enemy fire with the barrier and then firing back with way more damage than a tank should ever do. Good times.

I used to be against the idea but you simply cannot win in most cases if you don't switch between heroes mid-game or, especially, during that last push (hold).

Game is amazing by the way, playing on PS4 and having such a blast. Bravo Blizz!

So far my favorites are: D.Va, Junkrat and Symmetra.
