I feel like these review in progress' are getting hackey. There is no reason to hold out a review on this game to wait for a more active multiplayer. Score the single player, that's what most people are buying this game for.

Have no clue

TLG is even more niche than BB last year. i'm sure it will be a masterpiece, but it won't get many GOTYs from most sites/blogs

I personally think TLG will be my personal GOTY.

I can kind of see The Last Guardian going either direction, or any direction for that matter. On one hand, ICO is a notably inspirational game which a number of developers have cited as an inspiration for their projects, INCLUDING Uncharted funnily enough. And Shadow of the Colossus is one of the game industry's darlings, if there's a top 100 games list, it's very rare not to see SotC in the top 20 spots.

But the developer only has two games under their belt, and that second game is over 10 years old now. A lot of this will have to do with how good TLG is and all of that, but it's hard to gauge how niche/popular it will be since, honestly, the last game of theirs that came out was in a completely different era of games. Will the long development cycle hurt it? The type of game jive with a bigger, modern audience? Will it be so good that it becomes a darling to video games and is as inspirational and impacting as ICO and Shadow of the Colossus were back in their time? I think we won't really know until we know, it could go in any direction from my point of view, and I think there's not enough information we know to gauge how popular it'll be.

I think it's to avoid another Driveclub fiasco which can also reflect badly on the reviewers (bless 'em).

It has nothing to do with mainstream appeal. Journey one a massive number of awards for example. The reason BB did not win as many is because BB is hard as fk. Not enough people in every outlet are going to love Souls difficulty as evident by outlets within IGN itself for example with the editor Stapleton complaining about its punishing difficulty even though the reviewer disagreed.

I dont think TLG will have that kind of barriers. I may be wrong and it may end up having some very difficult puzzles but we will see.

At this point we should just have separate reviews for MP's and Campaigns and combine the scores after.

HOLD STEADY ON THAT 94

Lucy O'Brien gave RotTR, aka Mediocre Uncharted Clone 2 - Electric Boogaloo, a 9.3, and Uncharted 4 a Twilight Princess.

YES. I. AM. MAD.

The Last Guardian has a good chance if it releases this year, just due to Shadow of the Colossus.
Nope. I'd bet that game is going to get mostly 8s and 7s with "short, feels outdated, too late and not worth the wait" complaints.

It's nice to have an 'event' game once again. Something that takes over the world of enthusiast gamers a bit when it's released. I feel it has been some years now.

Reviewers have been a lot tougher this gen than last gen. 94 is pretty damn amazing all things considered.

Considering that we still see review scores in the 80-90 range for games that clearly will be considered lesser entries in a series (if not possible turds), well I guess we are slowly, very slowly, moving towards a more reasonable way of covering this medium. It's not that reviewers are tougher, maybe they are starting slowly to grow a thicker skin, less prone to the pre-release hype-PR-cycle.

wtf am I doing here? time to take off...

Ehhh, I think it will be seen favourably. I expect it'll be viewed as an artistic video-game, and praised due to Ueda and his previous work. But we'll see.

Thanks! I started watching a few, but found there were a lot of 'minor spoilers' warning, and some reviewers all too freely discussing story beats.

giving this a go right now.

Some time in the video, Colin is going a little bit too close to spoiler territory about characters so beware.

^This here is true, sometimes they might get close to spoilers territory, but Greg always reminds them to stay off

Also, they do mention places shown before in trailers, if you are on total media blackout maybe dont watch

Comparing the a Polygon & EG reviews I can only say Oli dropped the ball with his a bit.

I don't really care about the ratings, but Oli's is more a list of story features which - depending on your sensitivity to them - is pretty spoilery throughout.

Compared to Griffin Mcelroy's Polygon review, it just seems like weak writing. Griffin writes a great review exploring the themes of the game, and manages to do so in a way that has me intrigued and wanting to play the game - and without being spoilery about the actual content (i.e. stuff you play) of the game too.

Tuesday can't come soon enough.

You know what, I couldn't give a fuck about what scores it gets, or the MC rating.

I already know that I want to consume this experience, to drink it all in, devour it. You know why?

Because of Naughty Dog. Because of TLoU, Uncharted series and the sense of adventure I know I'll be getting without knowing anything of what's in store. Because of the blood, sweat and tears that have been spilt by some of the most talented people in the world.

Give me that. I want that, score agnostic.

A number won't justify this. 2 out of 10, and I'll consume all the same.

Let's be honest, is there anybody who will purchase this because of the scores? Is there anybody who won't purchase it because of the scores?

Didn't think so. So let's have it then.

These reviews are good. Thank god I have things to keep be busy until Tuesday. Work, the Persona 5 news. Battlefield 5 news tomorrow AND Civil War. Which ill probably watch 4 times before Tuesday.

All that on top of completing UC3 in the ND collection before then. I'm ready.

You left something unclean in your pants.

That's what makes you rage? Jim Sterling gave it the same score as QB. QB.

I know, I almost mentioned it instead, but while I thought QB was a competent, technically impressive, but boring TPS, TR2013 had writing and acting so bad I get actually offended when it gets compared favorably to Uncharted.

But yeah, I'm disappointed in Jim as well, but not as surprised since he never liked Uncharted that much.

Damn right. I've been waiting for this my whole life... well, ever since TLOU... scratch that, The Witcher 3. Let's just say it's been a while even if we did have couple of true gems here and there.

Don't see a game on the horizon this year to challenge Uncharted 4 as an overall GOTY package. No Bloodborne or Witcher 3 level stuff in sight. Stuff like Overwatch will be great but it's only 'half' a package. The Last Guardian will probably be super interesting but with mechanics a bit all over the place. Horizon and Zelda are now 2017.
Nier Automata

That development team

94 metacritic. I wasn't expecting that but nice. Either way, I was buying. That game could be a 64 and I'd bite.

Playing through the Uncharted collection to refresh the story in my mind, this is my third play-through of the series. Just finished UC2 last night, and I gots to finish 3 before the May 10.

GOGOGO

Also those reviews are fucking delicious

If this game was a 2/10, you would not be "consuming" it the same. It'd be a piece of dogshit regardless of developer pedigree haha.
