I personally think the OST is really good. It's incredibly subtle, which is perfect. It serves the story/gameplay, rather than standing alone and being all bombastic and shit.
There's one moment where I felt it could have kicked off and really gone full-ham, and it didn't, which was disappointing, but it's still great on the whole.
FYI finished the game last night. Still chewing on it. Especially the end. A lot of quirky tonal shifts and a couple of minor disappointments for me - but I can't deny the thing is a goddamn masterwork.
Is this game a contender for game of the year? Or will the next Tomb Raider eclipse it?
Rise of the Tomb Raider is a great game, but UC4 is a class above. It's a classic. A masterwork. RotTR can't match it at all - although in terms of pacing and exploration, I think RotTR may be better. It just feels a lot less special.
I've heard some say UC4 is the best looking video game ever.
I was just playing Rise of the Tomb Raider on PC last night, which is, at its best moments, absolutely mind blowing visually.. And I'm having trouble imagining how something on PS4 will look better
I guess we'll see, though
I was playing Rise of the Tomb Raider (on PC) immediately before I got Uncharted 4 in my hands.
Uncharted 4 looks better.
I think RotTR has a cleaner look - there isn't strange motion blur or as many artifacts - but the overall impression of UC4 is fucking mindblowing.
There are moments where it looks literally like a digital painting. Like a high-end artist's masterful concept art made real. Very,
very close to real life. You push a thumbstick and Drake moves and you're just like... "I'm playing this??"
It's not flawless - there's one setpiece in particular which obviously was a bit shunned in QA because I encountered a whole load of nasty immersion-breaking details - but aside from that... Shit, the thing is practically a playable movie. It's like being in control in Indiana Jones or Jurassic Park (stylistically) or something. It's insane.
