Game soundtracks on vinyl | Analogue Gen 33fps

Hi Mega, glad to hear you're interested!

Honestly, the Audio Technica LP60 is a great starter turntable. Some people shit on it but you can't really get better for <$100 unless you get lucky at a thrift store or something. Definitely don't get something with built-in speakers though.

Cool thanks... Yeah I'll think about it... It's the kind of thing that could get expensive quick lol.

Oh definitely. And because of the current boom (bubble?) seemingly normal records balloon in price. I got a random $20 record off of Bandcamp that apparently goes for $200 now.
But don't forget buying off Discogs though. I checked just before, and it's insane how cheap stuff is! Only bad thing is shipping to Australia is a bit of a nightmare.

I'm one of those people shitting on the LP60. I'd recommend checking out the U-Turn Orbit at $180 or LP120 at ~$250 instead. Much better build quality and overall quality control + upgradable parts if you ever find that necessary. Or check out Craigslist and thrift stores - lots of great vintage tables out there if you're patient and willing to do a little research :)

I've posted this simple list of the best sub-$500 turntables in here before which may be helpful to you as well: https://imgur.com/a/u7Bey

when ordering old records off Discogs, check the seller prices for how many records can you fit in a package. It's often better to build several "carts" and buy 3-6 records at the same time from the same seller :D

I got my first video game vinyl today:

Not in the greatest shape. Still, I'm excited to finally have (part) of a game soundtrack on a record.

Ordered it a couple of weeks ago from a European seller on eBay. Funny thing is that it showed up from a U.S. seller on Discogs a few days later, but oh well!

Oh, that's a great idea! I knew you could easily save by bundling, but I didn't even think of mentally organising things by seller to save a bunch of cash.

Where did you see it on discogs? It's listed in two places and discogs has the last sell being 12 months ago.

It's funny you say that because I think I'm the one that snagged it from the US seller a few days ago as soon as it popped up. Got an email that a copy got listed for sale and headed right there to buy it. So excited for some Persona on vinyl

FYI Discogs updates sales stats on their release pages on a monthly basis, so it'll be some time before you can see the most recent sale.

I saw the listing as well, but it was sold out by then. Nice catch :)

I've been looking for it for 6 months. They used to be plentiful and then one day they just sort of...stopped showing up. I didn't get the notification Discogs despite it being the first thing on my want list. Lame.

Discogs doesn't send out instant notifications. You can sign up for getting a daily inbox or e-mail update on new items in your wantlist. So an item can easily be sold out when you get that mail. The best way is to check Discogs occasionally to see if new listings pop up.

Oh I know. But it didn't even show on my daily. I check for it at least once a day, sometimes twice. I'll get it eventually. Just frustrating.

Did anyone else get their Monument Valley from iam8bit? I'm just wondering if anyone else's came unsealed, and in a plastic sleeve big enough to fit the thick 2 LP and gatefold package, but my sleeve was so smudgy and beat looking that it made the thing look like a used sale.

I'll vouch for the LP60 as well, it's probably the best (new) table to get to dip your toe into the water, so to speak. Yeah, there are better options but they're going to start at double the price. And don't buy into the whole "it'll damage your records" nonsense, it's grossly exaggerated (even for the super cheap (~$50) tables that use graphite needles).

And if you want to go "all in" later and get something nicer, you can move the LP60 to another room as a secondary table, which is what I did.

I have the LP60 and have had zero issues with it. Great table, and cheap. The only thing I don't like about it is that the audio cables are hardwired to the insides, instead of just having female ports on the back.

I've had that with iam8bit before. My Journey came in like that.

Did anyone else here get an e-mail from Novu Records asking about a Mirror's Edge OST on vinyl?

Seems like an odd way to ask about interest in a soundtrack. Definitely a nice choice, though, if it's at all possible for them to license it.

Is Novu the label that was talking about bringing the Kingdom Hearts and Metal Gear Solid soundtracks to vinyl?

Yup. Hence my comment about licensing (as it turned out they weren't even in a position to license those when they mentioned them on their site). According to some recent updates they are a bit further in being able to actively negotiate licenses now, so hopefully we'll see something from them soon.

Im surprised we haven't seen the MGS V stuff on vinyl. I mean they (konami) released like 5 albums of different shit for MGS V. Plus we got rising on vinyl. I just need vocal tracks though.

Ghost Ramp just tweeted that we can expect a release date announcement for their LISA: The Painful RPG OST in the coming week and that preorders are to follow soon after.

It's such a weird and wonderful game with a soundtrack to match. Easily one of the releases I'm most psyched about at the moment :)

Yep got the e-mail the other day and wasn't sure who the sender was at first. Guess they're trying to gauge interest before they work to get the rights?

Not sure what to make of Novu, they came out last year saying they'd have MGS and Kingdom Hearts, and now they're polling about Mirrors Edge.

Seems to be all talk. Not sure why they've mentioned MGS etc. I'd rather they remain quiet until they have an actual product to show.

yeah sounds like they "would like to" publish all these soundtracks but are still looking into licenses. And now trying to find out the possible amount of customers they might have to know pressing amounts, which the license holders are probably also asking :D

In their defence they didn't say that they had those titles, just that they were "working on getting them on vinyl" (which does leave room for misinterpretation, though), but other than that I agree with you. The approach that they're taking is weird to say the least.

I don't even see why polling this should be necessary. While not as popular as the soundtracks to KH and MGS, Mirror's Edge is still a pretty popular soundtrack. I don't see why it should be necessary asking if people is interested. If they decide to go on with it and for some reason can't get the license then they're just going to leave people confused as to why nothing happens.

EA might have a requirement in their contract that they must make a pressing of 5000 copies or something and they don't want to go bankrupt on the first order if the demand is 300 copies :D

They're considering doing a repress this Fall, so I'd recommend waiting to see if that happens.
What an absolute clusterfuck, they're obviously aware of the demand for it.

I'll chalk this up to another wonder of artificial scarcity, I loathe the practice, nothing says scumbag quite like it.

I know Disasterpeace isn't a fan of vinyl due to it not being as ecologically friendly as say, well, downloading or streaming music. I'm sure that won't be a popular opinion in here, of course, but that could partially explain why there hasn't been more (and isn't a Hyper Light Drifter release planned or announced yet either).

Well, both his It Follows score and the FEZ OST came out last year, so I wouldn't say that it's impossible at all. I certainly wouldn't mind getting the Hyper Light Drifter OST on vinyl.

Oh yeah, I also own and love both of those and am hopeful HLD gets a vinyl release, but I had read that was his personal preference. I'm assuming he's understanding of fans desire to physically own his music though, so there appears to be some middle ground.

Well speak of the devil. Looks like Hyper Light Drifter vinyl just announced on iam8bit

75 dollars. Video game soundtracks on vinyl was fun while it lasted, good to know iam8bit has sunk their claws into this completely. Looking forward to hearing about people not knowing when their copies are going to arrive sometime in, let's see, November?
