Enter The Gungeon |OT| Praise the gun

One thing I was wondering: Who are those random ghost dudes appearing in rooms with chests? They're not attacking, I can't talk to them... they just stand around, sometimes shaking their head.
Not sure what you're talking about. I don't think I've ever seen those and I've put in 50 hours at least.

Almost made it to the Forge for the first time two days ago. I was lucky enough to get the RPG from the Gun Muncher shortly before the statue dudes, but the last phase did me in...

Did you have brick of cash? Might've been snitch bricks letting you know there was a secret room (blank to open).

Never seen that or a rainbow chest for that matter

That sounds like it could be it! I'll check it out the next chance I get.

I put in a little over 20 hours and got the rainbow chest... three times so far? Not sure if the game is trying to tell me I suck by making the game easier with all those guns or if it's supposed to encourage me to be more experimental.

Only thing that sounds like is the Brick of Cash item:

Finally beat it. The easy way, anyways. Did they nerf Wall? I thought he did a complete wall of bullets on each side, but this time he just did like 5 rows.

Done. My favourite game of the year so far. Just pure fun. The last dragun kill I got through boss rush with the shittest equipment, a trident and a dead space pistol is all I had ended up killing him with swipes from my unpowered blade with the bullet. It was glorious.

Man...I've been playing off and on for two months and I still haven't reached the fifth floor. :(

Well done! I'm still playing, however, I can't unlock The Cartographer as he appears to be bugged and won't return to The Breach. I have met him and cleared every floor he asked for. Also, maybe I am doing something wrong here - but I don't seem to be able to become Jammed... I bought all 3 items from Cursula in the 1st Chamber and then prayed at the statue at the start. Nothing. Even a few Trophy guides suggested this should work.

I did see on Reddit the developers are currently working on a PS4 patch - hope it comes soon.

I am SO bad at this game. I got 7 hours in it and I have yet to once flawless a first floor boss or beat a 3rd floor boss. I just have a lot of difficulty focusing on dodging while also attacking and bosses tear me the fuck up. Half the time the first floor boss kills me if I don't have a weapon that deals enough damage. Even tried working on just dodging boss attacks without attacking to get used to them, then dodging attacks and only attacking when I don't have to but that just lead to incredibly long-ass boss battles that were really unfun.

I like this game a fuckton and enjoy playing it but I am so bad at it and not really getting any better.

I've gotten a little better, but still haven't finished the fifth floor. There really is a disconnect between regular rooms and boss fights. Also, when I see people using controllers and that they have auto-aim, it makes me think playing with k+m makes the game more difficult in the way you highlighted (having to focus on dodging and attacking).

7 hours isn't long so I wouldn't worry about it - I was very much the same as what you describe, but it just takes practice. I find circling rooms at the edges useful for most areas as you can easily strafe bullets that have spread out and know exactly where you're heading and don't end up rolling randomly in a panic. Just steer around the room. Try to only dodge roll the walls or rows of bullets instead of single bullets... often I have taken damage by dodging a single bullet and rolling into more.

Bosses have fairly straight forward patterns and calls before moves so a little practice and you'll be prepared for everything they have in no time. I would say once I hit 30+ hour mark is when I could consistently reach the 4th and 5th Chambers.

I got the trophy for beating the first floor boss 50 times but have yet to reach the fifth floor. You get better even though you sometimes don't notice it. Last run I had a huge arsenal and got to the fourth floor boss, but my drops were awful and had no keys and the fourth floor shopkeeper was locked behind a door so I couldn't spend the 150 bullets I had to heal up. Boss one shot killed me. :(

It's partially about getting good drops, partially about learning the bosses and getting those flawless completions to get extra health. Man, that extra health helps a ton in the later rooms.

Update 1.04 was released for PlayStation 4 earlier today:

Added a new gun, the Poxcannon!
Made it easier to access the first secret floor on subsequent visits.
Cooldown reduction is now capped at 50%.
Companions and other items will no longer attack non-violent enemies.
Improved the unlock flow for Gunsling King's reward.
Fixed a few strange interactions between passive items and guns.
Addressed several rare situations which would allow skipping of the fifth floor boss.
Fixed several crash bugs.
Fixed a balance issue involving ammo drops.
Fixed a number of issues involving becoming stuck in conversations.
Many small performance improvements.
Many minor bug fixes.

Here's hoping The Cartographer is fixed in in my game!

Whooo! Lead god achieved. Had two orbiters early on + beehive to take care of first 4 bosses. Sacrifice for a damage boost, did most of dragun with siren (pretty fast rate of fire for a shotgun). Just need to finish up Frifle and stealing for the plat.

Ooh, and update.
New gun, too!
I kind of wish that there were a fix for the camera when playing coop. Maybe a slight zoom out when splitting up, or something. Gets kind of hard to play with someone else, especially when fighting against bosses.

Other than that, I love the hell out of this game.
I'd been hyped about this game since I played it at PAX South, and for good reason. The full game has lived up to and exceeded my expectations. Might be my game of the year.
I've sunk so many hours into this game.. is there any way to check how many hours you've played on PS4?

Not that I can tell, but I wish there was, I must of put a stupid amount of time into it.
never did a single game apart from at the end when I was grinding enemies with the elevator for friffle where it took less the 30 mins. my death count at the time I got platinum was 124. So that makes it 62 hours minimum. prob nearing 100 hours as I know I was about 50 odd mins for most runs once I got good at it.

Getting withdrawl symptoms now.

nuclear throne or issac?

I've seen so many people compare this game to Binding of Isaac.
I couldn't get into that game. Maybe I should pick it up again.
Nuclear Throne was a blast, though.

Huzzah! My first plat too. Had an absolute blast with Gungeon all the way around, hope we get an expansion or a sequel.

Oh man, another one. Nice!

I am so close - I think the issue with my Cartographer might be fixed. I met him again in the 5th Chamber and he didn't mention that this floor is already mapped like he always did before update 1.04 (when I was 100% sure I had mapped all floors). So my theory is I should try to meet him again in the other 4 Chambers and hope the update has reset his progress in some way. Then I only need to steal 10 items and finish off the challenges which is just a matter of time...

It's really fun to still notice tiny little details after like 130h of play. Things like the nerdy gunjurers spawning rogue/wizard/fighter bullets, different enemies straining and getting tired after a long fight, finding out that there are indeed alt costumes.

It's a really well designed game.

there was a chest with a fuse on it, incredible
Those are fun, especially when it's a red chest and you just blew your last key on a brown chest with a crappy passive in it.

It's my game of the year hands down. I still haven't managed to beat Dragun let alone kill any of the pasts (or that other bit...) but I'm edging closer every run and I'm loving the journey.

I finally killed all four characters' past!

...now what?
My friend's read up on what else the game has to offer and told me that there's more.. but I have no idea how to get to it.

Also, I unlocked a character.
The TV/Robot. Carrying that TV to the bottom was a bitch.

Time to clear the 6th Chamber and boss - I believe this becomes available after killing the past! And there might be another character you are missing
The Bullet
.

Started this yesterday and it's a lot of fun. Reminds me a lot of Rogue Legacy which I loved. Was only able to get up to floor 2 but I'll jump back in later for sure.

Got a bit bored of this and stopped playing due to lag killing me on bosses, is that still an issue? I was playing a boss and got killed by an invisible bullet, the position updated but the visual didn't.

Finally got to face my past

Died ; ;

Pretty sure I can get it next time though, lost most of my health before learning his attacks.

That will be the pilot done, haven't tried other characters yet

It seems that none of your health/pickups/upgrades make any difference in the past? It makes logical sense but it's a bit weird from a gameplay perspective.

Game #237
I have beaten the lich at last. Actually on the my first time I managed to reach him. It was a truly ridiculous run. Got the ghostbusters beam on the first floor and used that to flawless the bosses of the first 3 floors. On floor 4 I got the muscle relaxant which completely juiced my crossbow and crestfaller and made the floor boss a total joke. Floor 5 I found duct tape and slapped those two guns together. Good gracious, it just melted everything in my path. Managed to flawless the Dragun and get the Lead God trophy, and moved on to Chamber 6 with 11 hearts, the owl, ring of fire protection. The floor drained me to 4 hearts before I found the boss room, he only hit me once in his first form. His second form is where I had real problems, he pounded me all the way to half a heart left, but somehow I managed to get through the third form without getting hit.

Holy crap, that was such a thrilling run. I dont feel like I got any absurdly overpowered items, its just everything worked together so brilliantly to make it happen.

Yeah, I knew about the last character. It's just taking a long time to find it.. again.
How do I go about killing the past?

12 keys at Chamber 5....I'd probably used a dozen already and I never saw a key vendor the entire run. RNGesus is such a troll sometimes....

And only 2 runs after he gave me glitched Beholster in Chamber 1 too...

How do I go about killing the past?

Take all the components for the bullet that can kill the past to the blacksmith, then defeat the Dragun.

I just got the platinum, too. Awesome game. Probably my favorite game of the year so far above Uncharted 4 and Dark Souls 3. Some of the trophies were a pain in the ass and monotonous (Frifle's Challenges, mainly), but the mechanics are so solid and the weapons and items are plentiful and really fun to play with.

Never mind.. I thought he meant there was some OTHER past to kill after killing the four main characters' pasts.
Okay, so.. just have to clear the 6th chamber.

How is this game compared to Nuclear Throne?
I was tempted by both of them, but NT is on Ps Vita too.

I found both games really hard, but i liked gungeon more. If you only looking for a rougelike, and not for a twinstick shooter, i would get Risk of Rain instead.

After i discovered Risk of Rain, and went back to Gungeon, it was clear i will never play Gungeon again. Its just too random and hard for me.

Risk of Rain also has crossbuy and a real offline/online coop for PS4/PS Vita. And its only 4.99€ in EU right now.

I'm coming from Risk of Rain! What a game!!
I've beated it in NORMAL and I'm trying to beat in HARD mode but it is... really hard!
Anyway, it is so addicting.

Yeah just beat dragun again, go up to where the gun is and the gun chamber mural will break open and drag you down to it.

Its a bitch down there though. make life easy and unlock the bullet. Hes overpowered as fuck. can dmg enemies by rolling, cant get hurt by impacts other then bullets and his default weapon can carry you through every floor as when at full life it shoot s a pretty powerful laser sword like link and the swipe wipes bullets out the sky.

I basically got lucky and found Gunther in the first chest I found on floor 1 by floor 3 it was clearing out rooms in seconds then I got the back gun upgrade so super powerful bouncing homing bullets were flying everywhere. actual last bosses life just melted.

Aftert that there isn't much else to do though apart from frifle challenges and they are a mega grind.

Thanks mate.

lol ok. Then you totally know what im talking about! Its such a underrated game. The Soundtrack is fucking awesome!

If you have to choose between Gungeon and NT, i would get Gungeon.

beat the Bullet King!!

...then I died after going to check out a secret room I found after I extinguished the fireplace

i think this game would give people heart attacks if they were prone to it

I just got this game, have done probably 15 runs or so. I'm completely in love.

When then fireplace room spawns, will there always be a way to put out the fire, or is it luck of the draw? Only one time have I figured out a way to put it out (I had a super soaker).

How is this game compared to Nuclear Throne?
I was tempted by both of them, but NT is on Ps Vita too.

Nuclear Throne is much more structured. While there's some randomization, the weapons you find reliably increase in power over the course of the game. A single run of Enter the Gungeon is much harder to predict since you can get an endgame weapon very early or find garbage over and over.

Character differences are more pronounced in NT.

A single playthrough of NT is far shorter than Gungeon.

I really like Gungeon but the long playthroughs keep me away.

Only having played five-ish hours of each, to me it seems like Gungeon is heavily influenced by luck, where luck is a minor factor in NT. Whether or not you can no-hit a boss (and it is super worth it to try and do so) can really depend on what weapon drops you get. NT gives a drop every screen where Gungeon is much more stingy.

Never mind.. I thought he meant there was some OTHER past to kill after killing the four main characters' pasts.

My bad, sorry to confuse you!

I just finished up Frifle's challenges today. Some of them were a bit long-winded...
