Mighty No. 9 |OT| The Blue Bomba

I'm hearing about some people having issues with the game not recognizing the standard Xbox 360 (and maybe others) controller, yet the prompts are on the screen, so the game is clearly designed to use it.

Anyone here experience that?

I redeemed my key and its downloaded on my PS4... and the game's just sitting there. I don't think I will ever actually start this game, will probably just play one of many others in my backlog.

Can we have a thread with a list of NeoGAF users who backed this? A wall of shame.

No need, we already have the game's credits. I wish I never would've put my name on that. :(

I got the game on disc from Best Buy ($24 with GCU). Frnkly it's not that bad! I've been having fun with it. It doesn't look as good as promised, but it still looks good for a budget game.

BTW, is the PSN code that comes with it the additional DLC or the full game for PS3/Vita? If it's the latter, I'd like to give it to a friend.

The problem is that a lot of people paid more than $24 for it. 4 people even paid $10,000.

RIP

Am I the only one who thinks the VA is charming in its own, incredibly cheesy way? It has its moments, particularly some cues during boss fights can get annoying if you're constantly dying to them, but the characters won me over by the end. Most of them have some really cool designs, too.

I'm using an xinput wrapper. It sees the inputs but everything by default is mapped wrong, have to run through calibration. Even then, can't map the dpad.

I'm too distracted by how unnecessary it was.

Played it for a bit. Honestly, the game is decent. It's ugly for sure, but it's kinda fun at times.

It's not great, but it's not awful either.

Pisse off I ordered the LE for the Vita version from amazon and find out that my version was converted to PS4. Vita gets no love :(. Anyway I can play this on the Vita still?? Or is it only remote play?

Right. I feel the same way. I facepalm every time someone suggests turning on Japanese VAs immediately. It's corny, but that's the point. Dr. Sanda can be kind of annoying, and the overall writing quality doesn't help, but it's a solid effort. There's nothing wrong with the VAs. The boss battle voice lines don't even bother me, lol. I just see the whole game as entirely harmless, cheesy, and fun.. unless something is majorly impacting your experience on a technical level.

am i missing something obvious or is the hover/air dash over the spikes section in the prison level pointlessly difficult? i cant pull it off and the rest of the stage leading up to it is really tedious on multiple playthroughs

Use Avi's weapon. It allows you to hover.

All of that.
-Ray DLC
-Retro DLC
-Vita version (not out yet)
-PS3 version
-PS4 version (maybe as a mistake or a glitch)

Really weird, as the LE was only for PS4 and Xbox One.

The code unlocks all versions (PS4, PS3 and Vita), but Vita version is not out yet. So, remote play at the moment.

Dont know what I did differently but I managed to get past that section finally.
Still feels like a random swerve to end the stage on.

The boss afterwards was neat

Why did they bother putting the numbers in the credits with "A Generous Backer" next to them? It makes the credits unbearably long. Like is there a specific reason or anything?

Would be so much cleaner and faster to just include the numbers with actual names

I'm not lying, I was ready to hate this game but after playing for a bit, I completely changed my mind. It has some little framerate issues but besides that the game itself is pretty good.

I love how hard it is and even though it gets me mad sometimes, the difficulty is good just like in Bloodborne, in fact I think that's its best asset.

It's weird to say, I know, but I can finally say, after playing for several hours, that I'm really liking this game, I'd give it a 7.5 and because of the co-op mode that I will use with my bf, I think the game deserves a 7.9, not 8 because of the framerate issues.

PS: I love to be able to set 9 lives pee run instead of the default.

I'm sure this has probably already been said, but I think that if you have the power-up that's the current stage bosses weakness, the Mighty No. you already defeated makes a cameo in that stage... letting you know what to use. @_@;; I mean, I know it's not necessary to use anything but the regular buster in this game, but it's neat none the less.

Just go for it. It really isn't a bad game. Turn the SE and voice volume down to under half though.

yeah but you have to unplug everything and disable any conflicting HID devices. I had to unplug my keyboard before the thing would see my gamepad.

then I had to use the keyboard to enter the gamepad setup calibration.

but once that's done, it'll work.

And I'm actually enjoying this game. Not bad for 20 bucks. Or at least my hate and anger and frustration is at lower levels than most.

If you got a digital copy then you'll get the vita version when it comes out.

I will be shocked if the vita version even comes out. Or if it does, it will be horribly unoptimized. They left this game for dead before release and they're going to do as little support as possible post-release because the game is getting panned.

Anyone selling a Vita code from the physical version?
Though there's no specific Vita code. It unlocks all PS versions and Vita is not out yet.

In case noone offers, I've seen some at eBay for $15 and with the DLC too.

At the PS Store, the 3 versions are $20 and the Ray DLC is an additional $5, so you'll be saving $10 and getting the Retro DLC too if you go with eBay. :p

So I'm on PS4. I have all the DLC; Ray, Golden Beck, and Retro Beck... but I can't find Retro Beck anywhere. Is it in the Beck Costume option? If it is it's just not showing up.

It's not a big deal since I was planning on using Golden Beck the whole time anyway, but I'd like to see how Retro Beck looks at some point.

I found it in the pause menu. At least on the xbone version

Really liked the design of the last stage, I also liked the last boss, but the design was meh and the first form
yellow devil again?
.

A decent to good game depending in your tastes and forgiveness, but it should have been a great game coming from people with so much experience making this kind of games. Inti Creates is also to blame, is not all on Inafune, design-wise there is some serious crap in this game, not even a rookie designer will pull some of the things they have done, maybe it was their tier C developers making this game.

So they used the full theme for the credits sequence.

EDIT: The digital art book and guide rewards are up at Humble Bundle. Wish they'd hurry with the OST.

Im guessing you know what Mighty Number will assist you in a stage by who gives the advice? Also wasnt Call supposed to become more and more "human" sounding as you go along?

I only got the art book and strategy guide. I know the OST is delayed, but aren't we also supposed to be getting a manual?

Beat the final boss, some thoughts and musings

- Game is nowhere near the travesty some are making it out to be. It's an average game with a few fun nuggets here and there. It's just some of us expected a classic return to form whereas this is just an average showing. The core mechanics are there, so I hope they refine it for the sequel

- Level design is really inconsistent. Some levels have careful thought put into them, others are just plain boring and/or not fun to play

- RAY is a reeeally fun boss and her stage's great. Shame none of that design philosophy went into the base campaign.

-Some power-ups seem really useless--or maybe that's on my end? Looking forward to see some high-level play utilize them

- English localization is obnoxious as sin. The Japanese VA plays everything straight without all that flavor. All that 'hoity toity' 'carrot and topts' 'great ceasar's ghost' nonsense was really unnecessary

- Dr. Sanda is insufferable in both voices

- Is Takehito Koyasu truly that hungry for work? He voices like two lines for that character Graham. Or is this an ego-thing -- 'I must put my voice in every game known to man!' - seriously,

Sent an email to them as they sent me the wrong region code but haven't heard back. How's communication waiting times looking like?

Kotaku always seems to take tons of roles, even really minor stuff when he's still busy with other things.

From what I've read about the guy, he really loves doing VA work and used his desire to be a VA as motivation to turn his life around from being a juvenile delinquent. I believe he has more voice roles than any other VA in Japan and I think that's due to his passion for it.

I guess it's because of his pedigree, I expected him to have a bigger role. It's really jarring to hear him voice iconic characters in one work and then hear him pop in for a small cameo. Guy's done more voice-work than Troy Baker and Nolan North combined.

Never knew that tidbit about his past - that's pretty neat, actually.

Was there ever an update put out regarding the physical disc release from Fangamer? I have been busy doing my Annual Training and haven't had the time to sift through my email to find out.

I've sent them 2 mails about wrong platform code. I didn't get any replies, but I eventually got a code for the right platform. 2nd mail was about not having received the proper DLC code for the right platform (Golden Beck) and missing one DLC code (Xel Transformation). Still w8ing on that...

Don't hold your breath for those physical rewards.

Thought I would share some pictures of the Beck figure from the Signature Edition because it looks hilariously awful

This game and everything around it is a treasure!

Is there a recommended boss order? I beat Pyrogen first, but the fight kind of dragged on with the basic shot only...(also didn't help that I mistimed a dodge during the second phase once and got blown up, restarting the fight)
