I feel the advice in this thread has been tailored to the OP's personality. He said that he wouldn't be able to trust her again. If so, then that's it. If he said that he was kind of okay with it and understands that people have urges, the thread may have gone in a completely different direction. The polygamy posts would probably have dominated.
 
Knowing NeoGAF, this might end with an anti-climactic bump in a few weeks where the OP claims he forgot about this thread and says the break-up was pretty heated, but wasn't too bad.

To me, the absolute #1 most important thing in a relationship is trust. Cheating is the ultimate betrayal of trust. If you're not happy with the way things are going, talk about it and let's work on things. If you want to fuck someone else, break up with me first then do it, don't stay with me because reasons, and do it behind my back.

Having been in a similar situation, time to bail out man. She reacted just as a guilty person would. A marriage of 8 years was my loss but sometimes, you just have to do what needs to be done.

This has a pretty good chance of being accurate. Though it's possible that instead of the last bit, she could go the, "It was just flirting, and means nothing, I would never act on it, etc etc" route.

How forgivable or unforgivable somebody views cheating as is up to them. If OP views this as relationship ending then that's up to him. I'd do the same thing, but I wouldn't look down on a friend if it happened to them and they viewed it differently.


I stayed with an ex who cheated on me, but as the trust was totally broken, there was no coming back from it. Better to end a relationship than to stay with somebody you can't trust anymore - that trust doesn't only include the ability to be faithful, remember. If you're planning to have kids with a person, share a mortgage with them, or even something not so typical, like go travelling around the world - you need to trust that you can come to mutual decisions together, that you respect each other, etc etc.

You can't do that without basic trust.

Right? I mean, how could anyone not be ok with their significant other cheating? I mean, it's all an accident right? I mean, that fell obviously fell into a vagina and they accidentally had sex it wasn't meant to happen.
