I keep getting a message that I have unclaimed items and get them from the options screen. I don't see where they are. How do I find them?
Hit option button on controller. R1 until you hit the options menu. Then hold X on 'unclaimed items' took me a bit too.

I'm feeling this game, but I'm also not feeling it at the same time. Some of the design decisions are absolutely stupid. The space cops, for one, are far too much. At least where I started, anyway.

And my first planet had acid rain, causing my suit to just get tore into. Most of the materials were placed too far away from my ship, so trying to get there was awful.

Had two hard crashes as well.

But when it works, it's peaceful and fun. It's just not explaining itself at all, which is some bullshit depending on how hard your starting area is.

I'm actually glad I've watched hours of streaming footage now. At least I know what to do :p

It mostly seems like a person's enjoyment will be based on what kind of starter planet they end up on. If you get a decent planet where you can actually experience the different things the game has to offer then you will enjoy yourself but if you don't get that start then it can make you look at the game in a negative light.

Should they have taken that into account and spawned people on decent planets to start and then let the randomness come in once you start exploring?

Hit the jackpot as far as starting planets go. Lush, tons of resources, and I can go a couple of days without charging life support. There's also ships flying overhead constantly, something's going on here. Going to milk this place for all it's worth before moving on.

"You have unredeemed items, to claim them please use the options menu"

Is it going to continually say this, am I missing some sort of redemption of items somewhere or is it a continual message?

Edit: ok, found what it was talking about, apparently I have an Alpha Vector ship? Not sure what to do with it at the moment, I'm just learning. 🙃

I think it will keep saying that. I 'redeemed' my ship and it just took me to my ship inventory menus, but it keeps popping up.

Guessing a glitch related to online connectivity or something

How do I scan animals so they appear in my discovered tab thing so I can rename them? I know how to scan the environment. I fed an animal. I'm confused and tired! This game is fun so far though.

I think this game just has an immediate difficulty spike a la Dark Souls while you git gud and upgrade your equipment. And the placement seems to be random, so you may have an easy time, or you may be in for a huge slog. I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing, but some people are certainly not going to be happy with having to claw and scrape right out of the gate.

The space cops do seem a bit much, especially after the 1.03 patch. I think the Sentinels are probably going to be the feature criticized most, especially by casual gamers.

so after I feed an animal, then what? They get a smiley face. But it doesn't "discover" them or anything.

nevermind, just read about the visor. Hadn't scanned a thing in the first 90 minutes. LOL

First hard crash. I hope I didn't lose too much progress, I just bought a new multi-tool at an encampment I found on my starting planet.

Edit: Oh cool, I lost all my progress. Damn.

Wrote this elsewhere, but parts of NMS (from what I'm watching) feel like they've cherrypicked elements of Destiny's UI strictly in the visual sense and less from a usability perspective.

All the menus it throws at you feel kind of overwhelming and disorganized/messy in spots.

Played an hour. My planet might as well be called Mr. Freeze. However, the sentries stat is minimal according to the menu, so I guess I'm good there. I plan to take off tomorrow if I can make it to my last resource (which seems miles away).

I discovered an alien word and spent a lot of time watching ships fly around the sky. Two planets are off in the distance.

I can see this game being weirdly calming in a way. The FOV ain't great though and I'm someone who hardly ever gets bothered by it.
Why the fuck is everything in this planet hostiles just had a fucking crab attack me.
I got lucky and killed my first crab thing because it got stuck between some rocks.
This heridium stuff seems to be very elusive wherever I am. Gonna be a rough start. It's a really barren planet lifewise too but has lots of bot activity and loads of trading traffic.
This is what I'm looking for right now. My scanner says it's a ways off so I quit for the night.

Sucks that some are reporting crashes.

Enjoying reading about the first planet experiences. Some seem to have a rather gentle first planet while others are dropped in hell and having a tough time.

Got lucky with my first planet. It was a bit hot during the day so there was some challenge, but overall I was able to find everything I needed pretty quickly. Also the space cop robots were pretty chill there. Not sure if that varies from planet to planet.

Traveled to the next closest planet which was an acid rain one. Explored it a bit, found an outpost, and met my first npc alien.

That's it for tonight. Tomorrow I'm gonna jump in and return to my starting planet and explore it more.

Also, game is exactly what I expected so far. Hope that feeling keeps up.

Can you change the speed of day/night cycle? If not, we should stay for hours on a planet to see it's night, or day/night cycle is fast? For example for a planet like Earth, it has 24 hours or much less?

This is what i am wondering how do you craft? doesn't tell me in the options.

And crafting aside where do you get heridum because i have spent over an hour looking for it

Oh got it.

Go to an empty spot on your inventory and hit square. Things to craft will pop up.

Dark Souls' difficulty is by design. This is by random happenstance and weird design elements.

I mean, Sentinels getting pissy about you mining for stuff is fine, but don't have them appear right behind me while I'm in the middle of it after scouting the area and not finding one. It makes the whole process incredibly tedious and unfun.

If they nerf that very, very soon, I'd see myself enjoying the game more. But I can't mine much on the surface without an alteraction and having to rush to destroy them or I have to fight some two star level cops.
