There's far too much walking in this game. I really wish there was a faster mode of transportation on planets. Having to walk two minutes to get to my ship is too much. Why can't I just teleport or call it over?
Would be too easy that way. Why even bother with recharges or finding shelter if you can just call your ship or teleport rather than do a two minute walk. The distances are part of the resource management

I'm running through acid rain toward a heridium deposit that's ten minutes away according to my scanner. Don't know if I'll make it, but damn it I've got to try. Like hell if I'm going to stay marooned on this godforsaken shithole of a planet.

Beautiful.

you know my struggle. we are brothers.

Seriously fuck this place, as soon as I leave the atmosphere I'm never looking back.

Flying out in space for the first time traveling from planet to planet which actually takes like 10 minutes making me feel I am really out in space in real life...

Movement speed and general traversal is a bit slow.

This might be the game to finally pull me from Overwatch however, I cant go to bed because I want to keep playing.

How do you check the aggro level?
And I could have sworn Sean said all planets would have Sentinels.
Not traveling into caves is nice, but once you get lost starting out, it's sorta painful.

I saw it on Sean's stream today. When you go to a new planet it gives you a readout of its properties, and one is Sentinels. For instance this one I just saw on his stream is rated "Low Security".

Also, no, I've heard Sean say in interviews that some planets have no Sentinels. I think those are rarer.

edit: on a sidenote, watching Sean's stream again I just noticed he landed on a planet and there was some kind of smoking vent. I don't know if it was a mini-volcano thing or a geyser, but it looks like there are definitely active geologic features in the game.

Are you using the melee-jetpack boost dash thing?

*shrug* I think your general movement speed on planets is fantastic. Especially if you can eventually upgrade stuff like your jetpack cooldown...

GAF impressions so far are sooo promising. This was truly shaping up to be a "love it or hate it" kind of game.

Makes me feel good about getting the call for my LE preorder.

Fuck space cops.

That's the first thing I'm modding, alongside 9999 inventory caps.

Hey collect this thing so you can leave.

BUT FUCKING DON'T TOUCH IT.

The aiming is booty, too, so you end up just standing in front of it and plugging away once you finally get a good weapon.

And they randomly show up. I don't know if it's because of the awful draw distance, but god damn.

Yeah, they are terrible. Reviewers are going to roast them for that, mark my words.

it's not for everybody, not by a long shot. If it's for you it will scratch many itches and scratch them well.

My first planet was nice to look at but a harsh mistress. So we're the others in the system too actually. Pretty much everything has 2anted m3 dead so far here so with hyperdrive engaged I'm off out of my starter system. But now it's late so I'll see what that holds tomorrow.

What an incredible sense of satisfaction the first time I
interacted with the Gek and got the plans to build my Hyperdrive
! It actually felt a bit emotional to
meet another being
. This game is doing things to me!

I've had little hype for this as it always felt like a keep your hype in check kinda thing for me, so maybe my expectations were in check enough for me to think that this is pretty damn neat so far.

So do animals share characteristics as if the shared a common ancestor long ago? For example, most vertebrates have 4 legs ( vestigial legs), 2 eyes, etc. Most arachnids have 8 legs and 8 eyes etc. Or are there just a random assortment of animals that share no features among them?

I like this way better than I expected.
kinda faster paced than I thought, already jumped systems, explored space station, got friendly with two races, found lotsa POI including a crashed ship, etc.
inventory is a struggle tho.
Just got my first crash tho.

hit Rb and X at the same time. saves lots of time.

My planet is a tropical paradise with red trees, flowing green grass and meadows, copper rock formations floating like they're out of Avatar along with the surface having massive hills and mountains. Then I discovered the cave systems full of bio luminescence plant life lighting up the caverns.

Found a Heridium deposit needed to finish the repairs on my ship but..I kind of don't want to leave. Lol

Luckily I found a outpost next to the deposit to call it a night.

Really enjoyed my first 90 minutes or so. Already stumbled across cool shit I did not expect, and leaving/entering the atmosphere is magical. Despite recognizing some minor annoyances I was pretty much transported while playing, strong first impression.

Okay, I advise two things to anyone playing who wants to be awesome

1. Go to PS4 Accessibility Settings and enable custom blah blah blah, swap the L3 and R3 buttons. Hopefully eventually this will be available through in-game settings. That makes L3 sprint.

2. Master boost dashing, basically what goes on here is that your momentum is always maintained going into a jetpack boost.

So far as I can tell you can get three levels of extra boost speed (and thus forward momentum as long as you have jetpack charge):

Sprint + Jetpack boost = fast
Melee + Jetpack boost = faster
Melee + Jetpack boost while sprinting = fastest

Spend some time getting the hang of this and you'll be zipping around planets. You can use it to jump chasms and do some amount of vertical climbing.

Kinda already considering this an NMS basic sort of like insert-whatever-here in Minecraft. Also gotta be honest it just kicks ass, you can get pretty damn nimble.

On my second planet...I'm burning,im out of materials and these lil half goat/dinosaurs are aggressive...I hate my life. This is karma for killing that creature on my first planet

Thanks for all the impressions GAF, looks like I need this game. Also good performance is encouraging, tbh that's what I was most worried about.

On my second planet, a dead one and holy shit the amount of resources here. Running into real inventory problems..not sure what to keep/sell/drop

So I just started, what is this choice...Accept the Atlas guidance or spurn direction and explore freely. 2 steps on my planet and im confused lol.

My mouse is literally hovering above the pre-order button. I want this game, I so, so want it and I could maybe afford it but I'm on the fence simply because I need to pay for college and I also want the FFXV preorder so badly next month. The college thing is even worse in that I don't know if I'll NEED to pay it so I might end up with 200+$ of savings. So this is me right now essentially:

ahhh, finally figured out how to get rid of that redeem warning. its the bottom right option on the last tab. Something like "redeem bonus content"

As I must work in the morning I had to end my first days journyey. I had to reach my personal goals of first System jump using my newly crafted Hyperdrive before shutting down. I got off my first planet quickly as it had Acid rain and low atmosphere. So much cool stuff to even mention. Pro tip: many of the resources for recharging ship systems and crafting warp cells can be found in asteroids.

Anyone figured out how to just get rid of the preorder ship?
Well sure, but it's hardly a spoiler given its right next to your ship...
I missed it for a half hour, but basically I agree, it's the first story thing there is and pretty vague itself... but still it IS narrative-related.
