No Man's Sky |OT| Hello Worlds.

Well I made it to my second solar system and found dope ruins before I got completely owned by some space pirates. Those fuckers don't mess around.

I've watched a few post-release videos now (hadn't really been keeping up with the game before but got curious now that it's out) and wow, that colour-grading is ugly. The game as a whole looks kind of bad, visually speaking, and I don't mean technically, I'm more than fine with a game not having super high-end graphics, especially an indie game, but you can still create sth aesthetically pleasing even with such technical limitations and this game, well, doesn't really seem to be doing that, I'm afraid. Considering how beautiful all the promo art is it's kind of disappointing.

Haven't really posted in these threads, mostly lurked and enjoyed the hype.

I'm so excited for this game, I'm only going to get to play an hour tonight when it unlocks at 9, but I'm looking forward to that hour.

I love space and science fiction. Space is amazing and looking to the cosmos for me provides an endless fascination and sparks never ending curiosity about our own world and galaxy.

It's going to be great and I've decided that I want to try to tying the game experience together with writing. I'm considering writing daily logs of what I'm experiencing. I'm sure others have thought of this, but I've always wanting to write, and No Man's Sky seems to be the muse for me.

Post it here pal! Sci fi is fun as hell to write.

I ended up accepting after I took the time to fix my starting ship. Figured I wasn't getting much out of the boost that way. I'll be dumping it asap anyway.

Your ship's slots carry 2x more than your suit IIRC. Transfer that shit.

Ok I'm having to call it. Still in my starting system. Still going between 3 planets and a moon exploring. Needless to say I fucking love this game. Just exploring and shit is beyond fucking awesome. This game is going to eat up so much of my time.

No Man's thirst is real

Fuckin' hell the LE is cheap in the US. Just $20 more than the regular edition? I'd have totally jumped on that. Here in Sweden the exact same LE is ridiculously overpriced. I'm getting the regular edition for 585 SEK ($68 - which is actually a bit cheaper than most new AAA releases). The LE, meanwhile, is 995 SEK ($116). Fucking LOL. I'd like that art book and comic book, and I also want to support HG, but that's just bonkers. Not paying close to $50 for that stuff.

Played for about 20 hours not had any crashes thankfully the game is exactly what I wanted only problem I have is I don't want to leave a planet behind

Damn all these impressions sound absolutely great!
Makes the wait for EU digital to unlock tonight all the more painful.

Q: what is the melee+jet pack trick for faster movement?

This game is really special. I'm at the point where I have the means to keep crafting the things I need to advance to the middle of the stars, the end goal if you will. How long will it take to get there? Who the hell knows. There's so much to see.

wow, completely disagree. I mean sure some quality is lost due to procedural stuff... but in general they have done an incredible job.

Every planet I have been to has had all the colours compliment eachother. The alien life fits the planet as well. The caves are beautiful. Some areas are just so dense with varied plantlife.

My starter planet was a NIGHTMARE planet and it was still beautiful. Dark green, neon green rivers, orange plant life, with radioactive rain. Looked killer!

Holy shit at the galactic map free mode.......

Seems I was connected to the internet for a brief moment there but now it's disconnected again.

I remember checking a while ago, and it seemed like this was coming out a day late here in the UK, tomorrow. Is that still true?

I have to kindly disagree with this. I think the visuals look bland, on a bland planet.

Get to a lush planet and the game looks beautiful imo.

Check the screens I did last night

If you tap R1 while stationary, your character swipes the weapon as an attack.

If you press a direction at the same time as R1 your character lunges in that direction. This is really useful as a dodge but also does decent damage.

If you lunge and hold X to start jetpacking, you'll use the lunge speed to get way more jetpack velocity.

This game is beyond amazing. Finally decided to stop fucking around and warped to my second solar system. Shit is crazy!!! Almost played for 4 hours today. Lol. Definitely going to take me a long time to get to the center.

I did everything from shooting sentinels, breaking into outposts, getting lost in caves, feeding animals, trading with aliens and space battling. Oh man am I having the time of my life.

Definitely want to become a pirate so I'm going to start looking into that.

I thought when we died and we went back to our grave, we'd get our stuff back.

Can't wait to get home from work to finally play this! Did anybody test the day/night cycles with the day one patch? Are they still at specific times of the day or are they now actually physically correct depending on the planets rotation and the corresponding sun?

Just took my first death like a champ.

Was attacked by three hostile ships after exiting a planet, couldn't warp jump away because it was locked out, and they were faster than I was. I tried to fight, but died a quick death.

Not once did I see that happen in any of the streams.

I love this game, I love the loop of bejng a trader and finding new planets, I cant get over how good this is. Sean and the team nailed it!

Anyone else got a incoming signal beacon after leaving their first system? I went to the moon it's on and hit square but it wont register. And now it points to it constantly even from other planets.

Just some random thoughts from a few hours play.

You are obviously meant to revisit your start planet as there are many things on it you aren't equipped enough to do, I found a manufacturing plant with a door I can't open and an observatory that needed a specific crafted item to enter.

Don't like the dumbed down ship surface flight, the auto altitude is just bad.

I like the maths puzzles!

There is no map?, does one ever become available?, navigation can be an issue.

It can become a struggle to know which items / species you've scanned.

There are ALOT of resources.

You pretty much can't do anything without resources, what you take off?, that'll cost you plutonium, your suit needs a constant stream of resources too.

Blueprints I've found so far aren't worth crafting, they don't offer enough of a stat boost, and take up a valuable inv slot.

There is ALOT of inv juggling.

You can't mine (at least I can't so far) everything, only things that show up as a mesh when scanning, so you can't terraform the planet.

Some of the creatures just look........bad?, they just look like bad spore creatures!

I sorta like the "choose your own adventure" options you get from aliens and monoliths, but I wonder if there may be a lack of depth.

Overall, an interesting game, barely scratched the surface yet.

The game looks really great in person. Streams certainly don't do it justice.

Played for 2 hours this morning. Called my starting solar system NeoGAF, and the first planet NeoGAF. If you find that solar system, it was me.

Found an ice planet where only life was pineapples that ran around screaming. I named them Pineapple Rage.

If you're carrying a lot of valuables they'll attack. Always be careful when carrying cargo and be ready to Pulse away.

IMO none of the streamers really played in enough depth to trade like that

Anyone else get the blueprints to grenades? I got two of them but haven't crafted yet. Also go some crazy upgrade for my multi-tool that gives it a +5

Is there really no list of planets you've explored? I thought I remembered Sean saying something like this was available.

Hello's poor servers are currently melting...
Yea I thought there was also. I remember watching a stream and the guy went backed and looked at the planets he found which then show all the individual things he found.

Also people need to realize that the more you play the better stuff you'll be getting, and this includes bigger inventories.
