it's a column the size of the chrysler building.

not sure i have any bases nearby but i'll try that, thanks.

and i was impressed i managed to park on top!

Doh I forgot - the jetpack is broken (probably by design) - if you keep boosting against a wall you can go up forever. Try that and be prepared to shoot over your ship at the top and have a long fall back down to planet whateveritiscalled.

I love the game, the only thing I wish for is traversal speed being a little faster.

They definitely nailed the slow drip of content to keep you exploring. Namely: Finding additional beacons to go get after you reach the current one. I show up to the green "?" and tell myself this will be the last one before I circle back and get back to my ship but then two more pop up juuuuust a little out of my way but doable for the trip. Fuuuuuuuuuu

The movement on the foot in this game looks really bad and feels like a stick on the camera instead of a player...no visible body parts, no walking motion or camera movement. Also I hope they introduce some kind of rover that one can ride to help speed up exploration of a planet. Just walking around will take hours.

But game looks like it has delivered. Congrats to Hello Games for creating one of the most ambitious game and making it work.

Have you played it?

This will sound really weird, but it feels like there's a body, even though it looks like a camera on a stick, which is something I hate (I'm all about player-body being in game, whatever the acronym is for that). They really nailed the camera-wobble, the sound of footsteps, the turning sensitivity, the weight of moving and falling - it all feels really substantial even though it looks crap on video and you have no feet if you look down.

That gif is showing a trick you can do with the jetpack, so it's not on foot for much of it, it's hovering.

As the other guy said, jetpack up the side of the column and try to 'stick' to its side.

You will stick to it.

Boost again to get a little higher.

Repeat. You can basically 'climb' any surface in the game regardless of steepness. Obviously by design because it would be easy for players to get stuck forever. Funny story: my very first beacon was way down in a deep vertical pit which I couldn't land in. Jetpacked down to get to it and couldn't leave. Almost managed to kill myself by jetpacking to max height and taking fall damage before I realised I could stick to walls, haha.

Would have been fun to watch.

If you're ship's stranded on a floating island, though? Good luck with that. Find a base station and make a Bypass Chip.

Its a real slow burner. You will see a lot of opinions from people who dont give it time and assume its crap. Im only really starting to become accustomed to some of the deeper elements after a good 10-15 hours of playtime. Some people will be on forums after 2 hours missing the entire point. Dont let that put you off if this game looks interesting to you. I was on the fence beforehand, but this has me engrossed in a way i really never expected. Sure, it has some issues, and maybe some things you need quite often require a bit too mich busywork for how essential they are to your exploration, but that doesnt by any means ruin it for me.

I landed on a tall tree by accident yesterday and all I did was stand at the bottom of it and look up to my starship, and it let me press square and get back in. Unsure if this works if it's a huge distance away though!

Haha, I just edited that post with a funny anecdote about exactly the bolded ;P

I stupidly parked on a floating island, and poorly gauged how high it is.
I can't find a way to get back up to it, and spent a good 2 hours looking for one of those "Call my ship" beacon things. Can't find one.

You can't use that trick since it's slanted like this: o\ and not like this o/

Not sure what to do other than start over...
Damn stupid there is no way to call your ship other than unmarked terminals.

I find most FP are 'floaty camera games' and most FPS are 'floaty camera guns'. Don't see how it's any worse.

I don't walk far and just use the spaceship all the time, just like IRL with my car.

Yup. I only planned on venturing to 1, then it was 2 and before I knew it I had hit 6 or 7 and was 12 minutes from my ship. All the while taking screenshots and fighting off hostile animals.

there's a restore previous save in the options. i haven't used it myself yet, but i assume this is what it's for.

That's a lot of horrible horrible streamers playing that game right now XD

Like people with really bad setups or something? What constitutes horrible?

Also is PC getting mods? Have they talked about that at all. I'd love to see a system for object physics in the voxel structures. I know that's a wierd thing to care about. But it's something I like.

Found so many things on my home planet, I just had to explore a bit. Examples:

-
Colony with about 4-5 aliens;

-
Ship parking lot, perfect place to try and buy new ships.

I'm trying to find a good looking ship with 7x5 inventory slots, they usually cost 1,2 - 1,3 million.

lol nailed it. Extremely difficult game to put down.

1. Look for orange beacons that fire into the sky. You will find one.

Make a Bypass Chip and use it. You can scan for 'Trading outposts' or whatever then travel to it.

2. Kill yourself. Aggro sentinels or aliens and let them kill you, or fall from great heights, or drown. There are plenty of ways ;)

Good idea, however I just spent 2 hours exploring looking for a beacon, that save is long gone.

Killing yourself takes you to the last place you saved, not your ship.

Is there a particular location that always has a call beacon?

Like people blasting totally unfitting, super loud music while running around and spewing completely inane unrelated things.

Are you able to blow apart the island with your multitool thing?

Man... I just don't know. I think a lot of my negativity towards this game right now are to do with the crashes and performance issues, but I also feel like I'm having some raw luck with the procedural generation.

Every planet I've visited has been deathly boring. My starter planet was a dull desert with no fauna that I trudged around to find my resources. So far, I've found two planets that were pretty interesting: a snowy forest planet and an ocean planet dotted with islands.

Thing is though, in between those I've just been finding tons of Mordors. On the one hand, that makes the cool planets more interesting, but the way the game is clearly plopping objectives for me on planets because I'm near them means that I'm having to stick around on these boring planets, find whatever planted objective is there, dig for a few resources, and book it. It's compounding my issues with the game and it's making it feel like a chore.

Part of this is probably the fault of the story/objective system, which I may well just abandon. But also, the technical issues are really hurting. The ugly pop and fade sucks a lot of the magic of cresting a hill and discovering a base or objective, because I can see the gears of the game turning. I know it was just put there because the game was always going to put a story objective on whatever planet I landed on next. Plus, crashing nearly ever time I hit the atmosphere too fast is really grating. Oh, and crashing whenever I warp to a new system. And when I get into a big combat situation. And when I try and access the galactic market sometimes.

Also, the inventory shuffling sucks. Straight up. There is zero defending the way you have to juggle stuff between two inventories. Why is the logic so split down the middle? Why do I need to teleport between two inventories, if they've already made the game-logic concession of allowing you to teleport crap in the first place? Why the half-measure?

The general experience of flying and exploring is really cool. The atmosphere is often amazing. I want to love this game but right now I really feel like it's working against me. Hopefully I'll have a better experience tomorrow.

This game is amazing. I can't stop playing it. Once you learn the main mechanics, it just clicks. I'm like 4 hours in and have only been exploring my starting planet! Hunting down the word translations is so addicting!

Every planet I've visited has been deathly boring.

This is the problem with the game. It's just boring. Either you're for one reason or another capable of severely, severely suspending your disbelief as the computer algorithm barfs up meaningless nothingness around you, or the game is simply dull and unengaging.

It's just a big ball of nothing. It's not challenging, it's not exciting, it's not provocative, it's just.. There. I don't care about endless discoveries if those discoveries are just seeing Mr. Potato head with his parts changed around in a different way

While I'm pretty resigned to the fact it'll be coming tomorrow, I must ask; any UK Gaffers receive their LE from Game today?

GAME orders won't move until today. GAME are so strict to release dates these days, they send out dispatch emails way early but the game never moves until the day before release.

You keep bringing this up, but that is all any game is. Just computer code barfing out meaningless nothing. If this is what you think, move on, stop posting the same shit in the OT.

Yeah I had a rough stint on a few barren planets but came across a magical one. And the experience of landing on such a planet blew me away. And it's things like that, which will keep me playing.

The inventory management does need some work I think. But they said in the next update they will be upping the slots yet again I think. I don't mind it that much as it means you have to pick what you want to mine and such, rather than just mining everything in sight and it quickly becoming more of a chore than it was in the first place. If that makes sense?! Like, having to be really conservative with what you decide to pick up I quite like. There are quite a lot of outposts that give you exosuit slot upgrades though for a fair price if you're struggling in that regard.

I will wait for the PC-version, if this is not fixed there I will wait until there is a sale. Or indefinitely.

I've been watching the daymeeuhn leaker stream and even though he has the new patch, his pop in is HORRENDOUS compared to other streams I am seeing.

If he scans for discoveries he also never gets anything back but infinite loading.

I kinda feel like he really has some kind of wrong version of the game, even though he is patched. Like,I literally have another stream open next to his and the popin is not even half as bad as his.

Like every resource survival game ever.

Seriously though, this is why I stay away from resource survival games. Almost every one devolves into a mindless, uninteresting core gameplay algorithm: walk around for hours looking for a handful of resources. Get resources. Repeat. It's not compelling for me, although I understand why some people like the building/crafting aspects of such games.

I've been following No Man's Sky as long as every else and the core gameplay mechanics have always been a huge concern for me. Yes, a billion trillion randomly generated worlds. Yes, space flight and whatnot. But what is the core gameplay?

No Man's Sky looks like it's pulled off resource survival in a much more stylish way, but at its core it seems firmly based on that paradigm. Speaking just for myself, it doesn't look fun.

Given more time and more content reveals/implementation, maybe it'll turn into that dynamic thriving space exploration experience it was hyped to be, but right now it just looks like another resource survival game.

Dafuq. Yeah that don't sound right!

No... No. Don't Starve is great. It's fun, engaging, has personality, and feels like there are things you really want to work towards. I don't even know how to describe NMS beyond a big empty boring blah.

After watching Jim's Jimpressions, I've decided to cancel my pre order for now. His criticisms about the worlds and animals feeling samey and "cardboard" (re: procedurally generated), I feel like those sorts of immersion breakers coupled with the environmental hazards would lead to frustration and boredom rather quickly. My fears surrounding this game have been realized, it seems.

I'm not saying that the game is going to be bad, I've just had it seemingly confirmed that it isn't for me.

Landed on a planet in the middle of an extreme snow storm. My suit protection (forgot the name of it right now) was dropping 10% by the second and I didn't have enough resources to fly my ship back into outer space. Had to stop playing but I can't wait to get back into that and figure out a way to get off that planet. I'm enjoying the game so far.

no walking motion or camera movement.
Good. That means I can play this game over a longer period without getting 3D sick. Extreme bobbing animation, especially when combined with fov changes on sprinting as accelleration effect prevent me from sessions longer than 30 minutes.

This is the problem with drive-by posters. They're just uninformed.

Watch the last part of yesterday's hello games stream on twitch and tell me that planet is not challenging. The fricking game creator died two times while chased by predators and sentinels, and dealing with extreme temperatures on a 20 hours-in save.

And as far as creature variety goes, we've seen anything from dinosaur-like creatures to living clusters of mushrooms to blobs to other crazy stuff. I don't honestly know what you're talking about.

But my words are arranged slightly differently, so each post is like a new discovery. :D

Even though you write this sarcastically, it's actually what makes human language compelling. Ask a linguist.
The important thing is that variety, as presented, looks meaningful. And up until now, HG has done a great job, planets feel like real places, not random shit.

Music is just mixing 7 notes, often repeating them. Do you also hate that?
