Yeah, my biggest gripe so far is definitely the inventory space, just way too limited.

The base game they're working with is pretty fun and full of potential. Tweaks over the next few months will turn this into a masterpiece.
I just got 2 extra inventory slots from a 'drop pod' on a planet, so you can definitely upgrade your existing suit if that comes up. I'll agree it's limited from the outset, though.

These are astronomical odds, or at least based on the numbers Sean has thrown around. Even if we assume "most" of the systems are toward the center, and players start at the outer-rim, the odds are ~0. Not "it'll happen to somebody!" kind of odds, literally impossible kind of odds. Struck by lightening 200 times in your life kind of odds.

But apparently not!

I'm already seeing people stumbling across the same stuff on different planets in streams, kind of bumming me out. As in, the same streamer finding the same thing on more than one planet.

Yes im aware of the "compare" feature, but it doesnt really give a good indication to which one is better. More slots im assuming is a good thing, but the gauges with different colors are just confusing
Pay the gauge no mind just look at the slots. If the gun you have has only four slots but good equipment it'll be better but on the flip side if the new gun has weaker equipment but say 10 slots all you have to do is craft that equipment you had on your gun onto your new one and boom the new one is better

Unless I'm doing something wrong that rename option only works the once. The first time you go in to upload your discovery you can rename from the regenerated default. It appears, once uploaded you can't rename.
Ahh, gotcha. Didn't try renaming anything yet, just saw the menu option.

Holy shit. I've only just watched some of the footage of the game (namely GiantBomb quicklook) and can't understand the tiny FOV. It seems like 60 / 70... I couldn't tolerate that.

It's 70, and yes, even 8ft from the TV it's dizzying. I imagine there'll be an FOV slider in the PC version though, especially since 21:9 support was already confirmed to be in development.

THANK YOUUUUUUUU. It's only 10:47 and you've already made my day. I see it now. The little marker guiding me back. This was a good lesson though. I need good defenses. Can't just run from everything.

So did the pirates actually take any of the stuff? Was it all there? It'd be kind of exciting to lose SOMETHING.

Ok, this game is grwoing on me. i want to travel and visit new and diverse worlds without being bothered by resource gathering like collecting fuel or repairing the thrusters of my ship, or anything that don't let me explore. Also that can be enjoyed without PS+
Would I enjoy this game?

Can't you do that from the Options menu -> Discoveries screen? I didn't really pay attention, but as I was redeeming my discoveries, pretty sure there was an option to rename them...
It seems as soon as you upload it, that's it. No more name changing. If you have it a name you don't like anymore or kept the default name you can't change it.

I mean, the more the circle is filled in the better it is at that thing. But you can modify/improve all that stuff with tech.

More slots = better.

Yes its really bad. They need to fix it..im having trouble playing it this way.

Im using this advice... Thanks. Passed up one with more slots earlier cuz i didnt know what the hell i was doing.

Can you upgrade ships as you go? If I have a cool looking ship I wouldn't want to dump it for some trash looking ship just for more space.

They are not even listed though.

I was slow on my edit, I was talking about PC.

Oh, the PC version is available digitally through Steam, GoG and the Official No man's Sky website.

I have no idea if there is a physical PC version or not, but I don't think so.

You can't buy it on Amazon for the PC (that I know of)

The PC FOV slider has been confirmed on Sean Murray's Reddit AMA yesterday.

Can't stop thinking about what I played last night, it's going to be a long day.

My second system is just 2 planets and one moon, I'm seriously considering trying to get 100% on all three before moving on.

Getting 100% seems like a very difficult task in terms of hours required.

Heh :D the same thing happened to me this morning, I was just flying around and noticed the grave icon by accident.

Was a little worried the pirates would still be there waiting for me but they were gone, thankfully

Well, if you can easily get all the stuff that got jacked from you what's the point of getting jacked? Do you only get some of the stuff back?

I can't take off at the space station either. It just keeps beeping when I press R2. Any help?

Turned off the game and turned it back on but I'm still stuck, is this a glitch? This is very frustrating.
Seriously, anybody know to deal with this? I'm getting pretty pissed about the situation.

Yep for sure.

Hmm. Maybe one day they'll add a "free explore" feature.

There's a ton of freedom, but the background threat of survival and managing your resources is always there. It compels you toward impromptu goals. You definitely can't ignore these aspects, so if that kills it for you, stay away.

poting my quost!

seriously boost dashing. mmmmmng.
As far as moment-to-moment fun, I don't think there's anything to be done if it's just not appealing to you in general. BUT I do think there are some things to consider that can be considered basic tips to improve the fun factor:

  • Consider switching L3 and R3 in your PS4 accessibility options. I don't like Sprint on R3 at all. Just a personal preference though.
  • Boost dashing is super crucial and fun as hell, get the hang of it ASAP.
You want to Melee + Jetpack for a momentum burst. Sprint, then Melee + Jetpack for the biggest of all. You can really cover some distance this way and jump some big chasms. You can maintain momentum as long as you have jetpack charge.

I have seen "slow movement speed" as one of the most oft-cited complaints so far. IMO this is completely solved with this trick and on-foot movement speed doesn't need to be adjusted at all.

  • Your mining laser should never overheat- when your bar turns red, remove your finger from the trigger for a second and then squeeze it again (you don't have to wait for it to "cool back down"). Play with the trigger until you get the rhythm.
  • When you pulse jump, you've effectively "laid in a course" for your current destination/direction, you can take your fingers off all the buttons and access your menus while you cruise. Particularly great for organizing your stacks on the journey between surface and space station.

That won't happen forever though. It might take 10, 20, 50 planets before you see something wildly unique, but it will happen. I had a few really dull planets then when I got a cool one it was like "fffuuuuu" and made all the dull ones totally worth it.

Plus things are supposed to get crazier towards the centre.

Wow! Like, land on a brand new planet, try to scan a creature, and it says "You already know this dude!"?

Told the Atlus to go fuck itself and now I'm tight with the Vy'keen and well on my way to being a millionaire. Time upgrade from this Pre-Order ship

I hope it gets listed on Amazon, I was really hoping to use my $30 gift card.

FOV doesn't bug me at all. Looks like any other game to me. Game looks and runs fantastic so far, not one crash.

"Online services active" woop! it's online now.

IMO it actually doesn't matter. 10 minutes spent playing something you don't enjoy is too long. There's no hidden secret to liking something. True of any game. Identify as quickly as possible if it's for you or not, then move on.

I have been told to stick with games even if my initial experience wasn't good and I was frustrated- i.e. Demon's Souls- but I don't think that's analogous here at all. My initial experience with this game has been nothing but reasons to continue.

I would have skipped on most of my favorite games ever if I followed that line of thinking.
Every one of my favorite games over the years has had either a slow / boring opening and/ or spells of mediocrity at some other points.
Last of Us comes to mind as a good example of what I'm talking about. After that widely praised prologue, there is at least 1/ 2 hours of game time where I was left thinking 'maybe this game is overyhyped?'. Thankfully I pushed myself to continue with the game and it turned out to be one of the 'great ones'. I know some fellow gaffers who formed a premature opinion of the game based on those early hours and discarded it. Their loss.

Funnily enough they said that if they built a VR mode it would be like this. VR doesn't lend itself to long play sessions like NMS demands
