Have there been any reports of motion sickness? I really want to buy this but I'm very susceptibile to motion sickness. I bought The Witness and I had to turn it off after 20 minutes due to this and I've not played it since, I believe its a low FOV thing that causes this so don't want to fork out £50 if the game is going to make me sick.

Some people that are prone to motion sickness have said this game doesn't trigger it.

Launch day server issues?

You don't say!

So as someone who redeemed straight away, do I need to throw away 8 hours of play, or is it just having to build the hyperdrive I'm missing out on?

You really didn't miss anything. The opening is essentially a tutorial for crafting and refueling, so just play on and enjoy!

i dig this game a lot.

if they offer improved draw distance patch on Neo I might bite. curious to see how PC handles it. my only quibble.

Any reason you cant get it on PC?

Should be able to get a lot higher FOV in that version.

My PS4 copy has been shipped! Tomorrow night i can finally play!

So I dove in and played for a few hours last night and wanted to share some of my personal impressions (I love that they may completely vary from someone else's experience).

I assumed that the starting planet would be a bit of a crapshoot in terms quality but I was pleased to discover that the planet I started on was absolutely teeming with life, both friendly and hostile. I actually had to be really careful how far I ventured from my ship because the danger of being attacked by sentinels or local hostile wildlife at any time was very real. I died multiple times during my first 30 minutes of play, but this wasn't a negative for me.

I managed to upgrade from my starter ship rather early into a BEAST of a ship that came with a plethora of pretty advanced upgrades. I found the ship at the end of a cave, derelict and destroyed. I still hadn't left the planet yet at this point so, I fixed it up in short order and decided it was time to head out into space for the first time. At first I thought it was going to be an interesting challenge to navigate it out of the cave and I have to admit that I was a little disappointed to discover that the game just sort of "autopiloted" it out for me. From the surface of my planet, I could see through the clouds another large planet (and its orbiting moon), so I pointed my ship in its direction and left the atmosphere. The game gave me a number of "wow" moments in the few hours that I played, but that instant when I broke the atmosphere was the biggest I had of the night.

The HUD popped up with the name of the planet and indicated how far away it was from me. I was just travelling at "Impulse" speed and watched the distance marker count down for a few seconds in awe as I realized that it would take me 2.5 hours travelling at that speed to reach it. Yet despite that distance the planet was absolutely HUGE on my screen - Barely fit inside my view. I mean - we've all inherently heard about the vastness of the game, but it wasn't until that moment that I truly started to grasp the core of what that meant.

I can totally see how the style of this game is going to instantly rub certain gamers the wrong way, but for me the slow pace and free-spirited nature of the gameplay is exactly what I need right now. To get that lost in wonder in the span of only a couple of hours is a pretty magical thing. I truly hope that the majority of people that give this game a try get to experience the same thing.

I'm very much looking forward to setting up a good Steam controller config. I wonder if Steam will register the menus as a "cursor visible" state?

God damn I love PC gaming. Jealous y'all PS4 folks are playing already though!

It can really be an awe-inspiring game, and the scale is absolutely insane.

Ahh good, I was worried I'd missed something important, thanks!

BTW anyone know how to find your starting position?

There's something I ignored there I want to go back to.

I think the servers have been having trouble with the launch. I was getting nice and green "Online Services Active" right up until midnight last night, and then shortly after it was having difficulty connecting, so I'm pretty sure the launch blitz totally hammered them.

Ok thanks Meta! Figured they were getting hammered.

Amazing game so far. Haven't even left my home planet yet. Just don't want to rush into things. Explore and find stuff. Entered my Amazon code for the upgraded spaceship so I have that ready to go. :)

Next time you're streaming, please post it. Tried watching some streams last night of people who were completely clueless about the game, it was......painful.
Only 3 more days of living vicariously through you PS4 players :|

LOL I've heard that too.

Also my close YTer bros Sirian, and of course Cobra, are awesome streamers too. I'd hope so. We've been following and covering the game for like 1-3 years.

Just got a notification my LE from Amazon was delivered! I've never had a package from them get delivered so early in the day! Usually it's closer to 6 or 7pm. Thankfully just two and a half hours of work left. Can't wait.

You found a random crashed ship? That's awesome!

Also, draw distance is actually very good. I'm kinda surprised.

I don't think the Pre-Order ship jacks the game narrative
as long as you warp right away. It's going to prompt you to build the antimatter and everything else so you can warp again. Unless all that stuff was explained through NPCs >shrug<

Now that the game is officially out, can anyone confirm literal earth-sized planets? That'd blow my mind.

I saw one that might have been close pre-patch. Haven't seen one that size since launch.

It's really difficult to gauge, though. That one huge one that I saw had locations on it that would have taken me 30 minutes to travel to even in my ship if I didn't launch into orbit and pulse jump around it. Whether that's truly literally Earth-sized or not, I don't know, but it was way bigger than any other planet I've seen (and it's still the only system I've seen so far that only had one planet).

I have severe motion sickness issues with fps games and a low fov, but I played for around 4 hours yesterday without issue.

As a point of comparison: I couldn't play the witness without increasing the fov, Made me sick in ~10 min

2.5 hrs in, 230am, so off to bed.

So far I've...tussled with Sentinels, built my hyperdrive, seen a pack of small dog-like creatures chasing other critters, and flown in a sunrise.

My local system isn't bad, per Se, alpha planet has reasonable toxic rain, 2 completely barren mons and I'm hopping between them as one moons has a crashed ship don it somewhere...

I am very susceptible to motion sickness and have had zero issues with the game. Granted, I've only put in a couple hours, but so far so good.

Great write up, these were my exact feelings as well. When I left my home planet. I didn't get to find a randomly crashed ship, but I got into a dog fight with a random ship passing by. After shooting it down and it crash landed on the planet we were above, a marker showed up indicating where it crashed. Took me about 10 mins to get to the location due to the size of the planet, but when I got there, I was able to collect some materials and it allowed me to repair the ship for my own use. I left it there for now, but might go back tonight and fix it up as I need something better than my starter.

you can't find crashed ships!? does anyone know why icon would show up in those cases?

I absolutely saw a crashed ship on a stream. It was a small ship, though, if that's not what you mean.

If you shoot down a ship in-atmo it just blows up and disappears though, which I found disappointing.

That is incredibly awesome actually.
