Animals and certain other features (being intentionally vague) on planets essentially have their own scanner- L2. It's like a vision mode.

Scanning (L3 or R3 for me) is for resources and POIs.

Should note - you have to repair your scanner before you can use it.

I am having a hard time deciding if I should jump in now on the PS4 or get the PC version(WIN10 1080GTX). Gyaaaah. I am pretty worried about the controller situation on the PC, but that resolution and frame rate though..

Could anyone answer, in spoiler tags, what the "three path" choices are? Do they show up obviously near the start of the game?

Sure.

Spoilers:

1. Journey to the centre of the universe
2. Follow the Atlas path and discover their mysteries (DO NOT SELL YOUR ATLAS STONES)
3. Freely explore the universe

I think I'll try my luck with the PC version.

SOME ADVICE

Turn up look/aim sensitivity. It helps.

Also, if you aren't using your mining tool laser as a means of combat, DON'T WASTE UPGRADE SLOTS WITH THE increase mining tool combat buff perk. You're not using the mining tool laser for combat so why waste a slot. Save it for ballistic upgrades.

To be fair, it's only under one specific scenario that's forced even by DF's own admissions. It would actually even be an easy thing for Hello Games to fix, just prevent people from O boosting the immediate second they enter a planet.

This game is something else, wow.

Starting planet was this brown hellscape. It had 24/7 toxic rain, hostile creatures, crazy amount of sentries, it was a nightmare. I finally escaped, reached a second planet nearby and it's the most beatiful, lush environment with amazing animals and clear blue skies.

The feeling I got when landing there for the first time was incredible.

Am I crazy or is there no system map?

Press down on the D-Pad while you're in space. You may then want to hit R1 to go from "give me a recommended path to the center of the universe" mode into free map mode.

(Unless you mean local to the individual area you're in, in which case I don't think you're crazy.)

So are only some guns capable of secondary fire? I got an add on that is better suited for combat, but mines extremely slowly. Would be nice if I could have a laser for mining and a gun for battle.

How do I read this galactic map? Is the orange line the path towards the center?

This game really is missing out on an opportunity to call a planet home. Find a planet, claim it and start building your home away from exploring. Maybe with a Warp gate so you can go back to where you left off exploring. So you can spend time exploring (I think I've said exploring a lot) or shift and chill at your home planet exploring that and building up your palace of crystal.

Get the DRM free version from GoG. I know I will. PS4 looks okay but the 65-70 FOV is making me woozy when watching the Giantbomb quicklook.

Yeah the local stuff. It sucks if there's no way to see just a solar system map of the region you're in.

I've gotta say, it's kinda funny how the UI is like a less polished version of Destiny's, lol. UI elements disappearing off screen if you move the cursor too much lmao

watching on twitch.
why is there drones attacking you every 5 minutes. its annoying.

I thought that too, but it depends on the planet. Trust me, been there, done that.

My first planet was amazing but full of sentinels (space cops, how I like to call them). The second planet I landed on was completely empty, no space cops whatsoever, I killed a bunch of organics plus created a huge cave, nothing happened.

The problem is that I think the description is bugged...my first planet was "low security" and had a lot of cops, my second one was "medum or high security" but had none.
