No Man's Sky |OT| Hello Worlds.

Ended my media blackout yesterday, saw the very mixed reactions and... got incredibly hyped and just pre-ordered.
I thoroughly enjoyed Starbound back in its early access version as well as the exploration/survival aspects of Minecraft, so I expect to love NMS. This is gonna be a long and sleepless weekend.

Alright, this is driving me insane. I have 22 slots on my Exosuit and a ship with 23 slots, but for the life of me, I can not find a new multitool. I'm still using my starter. Any tips on what to look out for?

I've found several in outposts, where there are Galactic Trade Stations. Sometimes there is a container in the wall with a new Multi-Tool for sale.

Love the look of my new Multi-Tool -

They're usually on the walls inside buildings. Mostly when there's another lifeform present there will be a multitool on the wall there.

Also, some Aliens may ask you to see your multitool. If they see you with the starter one, they may give you a new upgraded one

Has anyone else visited two different Atlas stations but not
gotten a waypoint to an anomaly to get the Atlas Pass
?

I'm getting really nervous that my quest is bugged. I still do have an Atlas waypoint....

started doing the atlas quest last night and at some point o had objectives on screen like "repair scanner, upload discoveries" or something like that. those objectives just disappeared and never said completed or anything. am I screwed or should I just continue towards the atlas thing?

I don't know, I think some objectives are bugged

I had a random objective pop up also while doing Atlas stuff that said "Craft Jetpack Boost Sigma" (an exosuit upgrade) even though that had nothing to do with what I was doing. I even crafted it and the objective didn't go away but after exiting and restarting the game it was finally gone

First night with the game was tedious having to learn the menus and the mechanics, but man I had an incredible time on my second day of playing. I finally left the first system and found this incredible snowy planet that dropped to -80C at night. Flying around new planets is a jaw dropping experience.

Think they'll fix the weird shimmering texture pop in? That's pretty much my only gripe with the game right now.

so you can pin blueprints and they'll show up as objectives that way. when you find blueprints on planets after hitting any button to confirm you got it seems to automatically pin that blueprint for whatever reason

Also, people aren't spawning evenly across the entire universe. Everyone (I assume) starts along the outer edge of it, which immediately eliminates a massive amount.

Honestly not sure if that makes sense since you in theory could start anywhere in the universe from a life standpoint. Would make more sense if they said you were thrown to the edge of the universe or something. I wonder if it is just theory crafting to explain the numerous player crosspaths being seen.

I haven't spent a ton of time in the game yet, but I'm loving every minute of it. I was on a media blackout before release, so a lot of the stuff I'm experiencing is probably old hat to most of you. Still, if anyone is interested, I'm writing a little blog about my adventure (fair warning - I do not pretend to be a good writer). Might be something to help pass the time at work?

That's a marvelous idea! Will start following

Bookmarked.

Now be sure to keep updating :P

Talk to dudes and find multitool cases at outposts. Might have better luck with different alien species. Only found one with the Gex in 15 hrs. Found three different multitools already on one Vy'keen planet.

This could be it. Right now I'm in a system full of Gex and they never have a multitool for sale. Probably going to jump to a new system.

Why are the ship and multitool designs sooooooo gooooood and 90% of the animals fucking nightmare fuel lol?!

I don't know what you're talki-

Some sites are also doing this. Updating every day like it's some kind of adventure log, i personally love this approach. Bookmarking your site :)

OH MERCIFUL GOD

lol fuck!

Also... the diversity of the animals seems damn small. I've seen that same damn dude with tiny differences like mine had plate-like coral fungus on his back and different ears/horns.

When you can basically identify the overall animal on almost every single planet... formula isnt that unique. :/

I went to a planet where the sentinels were 'frenzied'. They weren't fucking around. I went to a beacon to use a bypass chip: attacked. Used my visor to log animal discovers: attacked. Stood around outside: attacked.

Nice vacation spot.

Thanks, I plan on it. It's just something I decided to do for fun. I'm not playing much else right now, so I'll probably update on a daily basis. At least, during the work week. :)

Oh really? Nice. Know of any off the top of your head? I would love to start following them, too.

Vy'keen outposts. Oftentimes they offer multitools or have one hanging on the wall.

I want to get powerful enough to wipe out all Sentinels. That's my game goal right now. Get crazy good stuff and come back to planets where they fucked with me and completely melt their tin-can asses while whistling and skipping along.

Item spoilers

So I just got to my second Atlas Station. I didn't get an Atlas Pass v2. Did I do something wrong?

Early to mid game spoiler.

I've also been selling my Atlas Stones. Probably a mistake?

My friend and I played for a few hours yesterday.

1) Priority number 1 is exosuit slots. Finding pods is cool but grinding emeril into cash is.. well, Grundy (but I'm choosing to grind)
2) went back to my original system, not leaving till I finish the tutorial and get the hyperdrive blueprints.
3) still learning language although my current system is Korvax and they are less interesting to me.
4) got a new multifoil but concentrating on exosuit, then multifoil, then ship (eventually)

So much fun.

This game is rad!

Finally got a new ship but no hyperdrive. No blueprint for a hyperdrive. Yes I preordered and used the ship.

Where do I get a hyperdrive blueprint? Trade post? Space station?

As beautiful and moody ALL of these planets are in their own way (im talking about ~50 planets that i have discovered) there is one thing that is just a pity. Simply said, if you have explored an Area of a certain size (lets say 1 km x 1 km), you have Seen THE WHOLE PLANET.
I know, the tech behind it and everything "prevent" more variety on a planet but still..leaves a Bad taste in my mouth.

Also where are the giant snakes?? The HUGE animals? Anyone came across any lifeform taller than 5 Meter ??

I don't think people are really comprehending what an achievement this game is. A tiny group of developers have made a fully procedural universe that really hangs together. I was kinda dubious that they would pull it off. I thought there would be lots of repetition of just too many unbelievable structures or creatures. But it is so immersive.

Totally agree with this part of your post, but...

I just visited a lush planet with flying fish things in the sky - it looked liked every part of it had been carefully crafted and placed. It was incredible. I've only put 4 or so hours in, and visited 4 planets that were vastly different in terms of terrain and wildlife, and the sense of wonder still hasn't stopped.

I was starting to feel like I was bored with gaming this gen; enough GTA 456, Darksouls 29 blah blah. This is the first game in a long time to really hook me and it's inspired.

On another note - has Sean said anything more about PS VR?

As for the bolded I don't agree with that - stuff is clearly procedurally generated here, and the seams often show. What works is that the algorithm creates really organic and natural looking landscapes on the micro level (what you can see when on foot), so it all seems so real.

What I'm yet to see is if the algorithm can create more natural environments on the macro level - mountain ranges, craters, different biome areas on one planet. My suspicion is that it can't but I'm just getting started.

This are the only ones i've read so far, i'm bet there will be others around :)

The Verge: Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3
GameSpot: Day 1 | Day 2
Videogamer (comedy): Day 1

As mentioned before, i'm loving this Travel Log" approach for NMS, it fits the game perfectly :)

Awesome, thanks so much for the links. I got so used to avoiding media that it never dawned on me to seek out similar b/logs. It's great to know I'm not the only one out there who appreciates them. Bookmarked!

I really wish this game just had infinite inventory slots (or hope I can get there eventually). Seems like it would be an incredibly relaxing game to just pop in every now and then to explore, if I didn't have to worry about micro-managing item slots.

I searched through the thread and saw some advice to just sell everything I don't need right now, so I'm gonna go for that. Also to look for ? spots, good to know.
For sure, sell everything, and if getting to a comfortable point with the inventory is a big deal for you definitely seek out drop pods early on (just keep going until the upgrades become unreasonably expensive).

I'm just getting a few on my PS4 character and going to focus more on my ship inventory, but I'm going to go nuts collecting as many as possible on my PC dude who will spend much more time on planets.

Odd thing happened last night. I bought a spaceship off a Gek at one of the stations and promptly afterwards I get attacked by Space Pirates. Now I notice I can no longer lock on to enemies and basically are firing my weapons into open space. I look up in the top right corner and it shows my cannons are at 0% and the game prompts me to recharge them with yellow minerals. I open up the menu but can't find a way to recharge them.

Is this a glitch or am I just missing something?

I think the biggest surprise for me at this point is the lack of biomes. Planets are essentially uniformly one environment repeated over the entire planet. The Star Wars theory of planets if you will.

Id love to have north and south poles, lakes, rivers (no rivers), and stuff.I still love what I see but the seams do show,
