"Unlocked" isn't really possible with how a game like this works. It's not really render distance (although that's also a factor, of course), is generating distance. You can't generate EVERYTHING at once even on a powerful PC, and then keep all that in memory. You're gonna see pop-in on PC to, even with maxed settings, especially when descending to a planet. It will/should be less severe than on PS4, but it will be there. Just no way around it with our current puny technology.

But yeah, all planets seem to have that N64 fog. Makes sense why. Otherwise you'd clearly see huge mountains and shit just appear out of nothing.

I've been to a few planets with little to no 64 fog.

Here's a public service warning:

Do NOT go into the new review thread. The amount of people bashing the game based off of someone else's experience with it is mind bottling. The 8s and 9s are completely ignored and Jim Sterling is god.

I need a drink.

And my controller so I can do some more exploring.

Seems this game is doing pretty well on PS4 so far. Just noticed it already has 84k likes on the game over the few days it's been on sale (you need to own the game in order to like it).
For comparison's sake, Doom has 50k, SFV has 42k.

Page 2 had Shame gifs so I just turned 360 degrees around and walked away.

This game will unlock in approximately less than an hour HANDLE IT

Does planet zoology milestones only increase on planets and not on moons? Because I just spent ages finding all species and didn't get the milestone. Found out I was playing on a moon.

When I get off work today, it's on to the arduous (and possibly impossible) task of finding my starting position. I missed the emergency beacon, or whatever it was that gave you your first choice :( May the Vy'keen gods be on my side.

I think some of the lower scores do help point out that there are some flaws in the game and the loop isn't necessarily the best. Besides, different people like different things and have a different tolerance level for what might be grating or bad about a game experience.

i haven't actually pre ordered the PC version and i'm starting to get put off by all the negativity and not so great reviews. i think i'll enjoy the game but not sure it's worth £40 but don't want to wait for sales/future updates. i don't know what to do :(

Judge the game on your terms. It's not hard and I don't see why anyone's enjoyment on anything is altered by someone else's thoughts.

please please please please can we have a screenshot thread for this thing?

It's about 12 pages long already.

Feel like I have been playing the game wrong up until now and its really becoming more fun.

First few days I simply wandered and flew around the planet until I found things that looked interesting. For some reason I was ignoring the red beacon lights that need chips to access. Now, having figured out how useful they are I feel like I have direction and am not simply just wandering and hoping to find something useful

Suit has about 16 slots now but still in beginning ship, hope to fix that asap

I believe I found at least a partial reason why getting 100% on some planets is so damn difficult:

^ about 1-1.5m from them, at best.

Standing right next to the little fuckers
Shooting 'em with a more than decent boltcaster, nothing, lasering one for a good bit (combat upgrade tier 4 installed), nothing, lobbing a grenade right into them when they floated just a bit above the ground, nothing.... FUUUUUUU! Eventually I got 'em scanned while they were just floating about, but dayum son. The only reason I even noted them to be separate from the normal shit fluttering in the air was due to the scanner showing me un-scanned lifeforms right in front of me when I was basically just surveying the land.

And yes, I'm a patient man and I tried to scan them for several minutes even before I tried the violent options.

Review threads are always dumb past the first post. They bring out the most obnoxious and petty people that post in the forum. People don't know how reviews work and they can't accept that someone may have a different opinion.

The feeling of traveling into a new system and coming across a new set of planets for the first time...damn. I really love this game.

Why? You will be presented with the same/other choices if you just keep warping forward. Also, good luck getting back. I heard its fucking hard to find your starter.

A lot of the hyperbole and drama around this game has been embarrassing. I respect Jim's review and this game certainly isn't for everyone but there are some people just trying to turn the situation into a dumpster fire.

Best to stay away.

Space combat might be simple but it can be pretty fun. I think you need a few upgrades to be strong enough though or you get taken out too quickly. I really enjoy when the message comes up saying I'm being scanned and then you either escape or try to take them down.

Oh, this I agree with 100%. Some people will not enjoy this game at all. It's the people latching onto the lower scores and declaring from the mountaintops that the game is a $60 dumpster fire (without having played themselves) that had me running back to this thread.

EDIT:

Hahahahahahaha... we both used "Dumpster Fire" at the same time.

God damn, I need bigger ship. I have 2 mil in bank, but it is not nearly enough, I need at least 4 mil. for some good ship swap

I just saw this in the day 1 patch notes:

Inventory - ship inventories now store 5 times more resources per slot. Suit inventories now store 2.5 times more per slot. This encourages exploration and gives freedom from the beginning. We're probably going to increase this even further in the next update, for people in the latter game phases, and will allow greater trading potential.

Shit, what the FUCK must this game have been like beforehand? Seriously, did they only start playtesting this thing after it had gone gold?

I'm enjoying the game and I think the reviews are spot on. Most people won't like this game.

Saw someone complaining about how the game doesn't deserve a 9/10 because the reviewer said it's a divisive game.

That's when I realized the thread has gone full crazy.

Totally, my first upgraded ship, which i currently still have has 25 slots which cost me 1.8 mil. At the time i thought it was boss, until fucking 32+ slot ships show up at the station that cost 7mil... i cried.

You should tell that to Sony QA because they are the one who did the playtest before the game release.

Man game is crashing constantly within a 15 minute window. Pretty much unplayable at the moment which is a damned shame as was enjoying the title.

I found an awesome looking crashed ship (my first one!), but it had one less slot than my current ship, so I sadly left it behind.

No, I forgot to screenshot it.

QA generally doesn't do design feedback unless specifically requested, and even then are usually only included in wider internal playtests. That isn't really a QA thing.

I'm honestly impressed that No Mans Sky of all games DDOSd Jim for a low review. I always thought it'd be a Naughty Dog game.

But yeah review threads are generally trash no matter the game.

It seems like all crashed ships are just one slot less or more than your current one. Kinda disappointing.

Huh. That would explain it. They're usually crap.

Glad I got a 7-slot upgrade with my first purchase, then. Makes all the difference. Hoping to try space combat again tonight. When i tried it with the default ship I got my ass handed to me.
