A good way to look at your scanner on foot is a "help me stay alive" button. The yellow and red icons that pop up are your hazard protection recharge (Zinc) and Launch fuel (Plutonium). Also useful if you need these elements in bulk along with Silicates (Platinum), the blue icon.

Beautiful.

Starting to get mad because I've probably played this game for 30 hours but am still 170,000 light years away from the center

Took about a dozen or so planets before I found one that looked very lush and interesting. Everything til that point had mostly been rocky and mountainous.

I remember the days when people complained about the 30 hour completion time and the fact that 9 out of 10 planets weren't barren.

PC users...what are you doing for controls?

Keyboard and mouse feels great while on foot, but jump into a ship and it's a bad feeling. Anyone swapping from keyboard to controller easily?

Yeah, it just swaps instantly like most games with controller support. Though right now I am really only using keyboard to name planets and star systems. Just playing on an X1 Elite otherwise.

What do you have to do to get the multi-tool to dig?

I crafted an expensive upgrade hoping to unlock digging with my mining beam -_-

Just redeem it. It doesn't break anything unless you swap it out for another ship before getting the hyperdrive blueprint from the quest, but the quest still gives you the hyperdrive blueprint even if you have the pre order ship.

Ok, thanks. I knew that redeeming it first thing would boost me past some fairly important tutorializing early on (heard Jeff talk about it on the Bombcast), but I was more worried that it would just defacto swap my current ship for it, which I didn't want. I was just a chicken to click on it lol Thanks for putting up with my insanity and responding in a helpful way.

Hmm I think I might have found an item duping glitch. Any items worth duping?

Off-hand I'd say if you can find a cheap Atlas Stone then that'd be the fastest way to break the game's economy. Barring that I dunno? A Dynamic Resonator seems to be plentiful and pricey enough to dupe a bunch to make a killing without tanking the Galactic Market too badly. My first time in a space station I made a ton by selling those because they were selling for +106% market rate, but I could buy them easily from NPCs landing in their ships for around +1.6% the going rate, so I would buy a few, run up to the stations galactic market station, sell them for mad profit, rinse and repeat.

Also Warp Cells to just keep on truckin.

Sounds like you're heading for a hard burnout :\ Maybe ease off and play other things and come back to it in a few days? It's going to take a long time for most of us to reach the center, so unless you're in a rush or race with someone to see who gets there first, I'd just try to be ok with the reality that it'll take a while. If that's not your style, then maybe look for a black hole? I've seen them fling people pretty far.

Ha, I always forget that you can farm sentinels for Titanium. I have needed it so many times.

Sometimes I kill so recklessly I don't pay attention to what pops out.

Plasma Launcher. It'll become your L1.

So the game is telling me to go to an outpost during the hyperdrive questline but when I go there (underwater) they disappear..

so am I just fucked?

Wha? Is that rare in your part of the galaxy? All the planets I've been on have had more titanium crystals than I know what to do with.
yup.

no idea, try exiting your game?

If it's really nowhere, the hyperdrive quest is given to you like 20-30 minutes in if you rush it.

I'm about 3-4 hours in on the PS4 version and really enjoying it so far. I haven't even left my starter planet yet. I keep finding things to discover and doing some planetary missions. My starter planet is pretty chill - just a little toxic and cold at night, plenty of resources and emeril, and sentinels that aren't too aggressive. I've already upgraded my multi-tool twice, expanded my exo suit inventory a few times, found a bunch of upgrades, and significantly improved my standing with the Vy'keen (they consider me a special friend lol). Every time I plan on leaving I see a question mark in the distance and get the urge to explore it. Gonna have to force myself to leave soon as there is a lot waiting out there to be explored.

Yes, now they've moved onto much bigger issues.

I'm perfectly fine with the game the way it is now, and the potential for major improvements is high down the line. Went in with no expectations though.

Did anyone find Atlas Pass v2 and v3 yet?

Atlas Path endgame spoilers:

I finished the Atlas path in 60 minutes because I had the tau upgrade for my warp drive and just wanted to see what that is all about and it felt disappointing because I didn't understand the messages. Should have spent more time in the atlas systems to learn the language

How are you supposed to take advantage of synergistic upgrades (bonus stats for placing adjacent slots) for the jetpack when the original node is stuck at the top left corner of the exosuit and blocked off by other immovable slots?

Well fuuuuuuck that place then lol Last planet I was at regularly had Titanium crystals that were super tall. Though I never ran into them underground-- that was mostly Plutonium and whatever element was coded to green crystals on that planet (e.g. Gold, Emeril, etc...)

Did you confirm the waypoint is not in space? I believe I had to get a part from a space station.

Nope, spent hours looking for it last night. Where are you looking for it? I heard farming Colonial Outposts via Signal Scanners worked for a Redditor. I still only have AtlasPassV1.

Since more people are streaming in from the PC version, and some of them are coming in blind, I thought I'd repost my Beginner's Guide, and Hawkian's awesome Beginner's Guide and tips for new players:

thanks a ton man :)
Forgive my ignorance, but is there an easy way to find/fast travel to locations you have discovered on a planet?
There's no fast travel haha, but you can set waypoints.

exited and it still says to go to same spot

Does the "Time to Arrival" icon tick down as you get closer? Is there a building there underwater?

yes, I swim there for 5-6 minutes and then the icon counts down and then just disappears and there is nothing there, the water is toxic and freezing so I can't really explore for caves or anyhing..

then I go back to my ship and it gives me another location, again underwater, I go there and the icon disappears and nothing is there

How do you scan the flying stuff? I've climbed to what I consider to be reasonable proximity of them and it still doesn't work. Zooming doesn't help either.

How are you guys playing? I've been completely defensive, I kind feel bad shooting the animals and I only shoot at ships that shoot at me. The only offensive action I've taken is to farm Titanium from sentinels

man I have no clue. Tried going to orbit and back already?

Have slaughtered every species I've come across without discovering them.

Herds of animals that are Heredium-based can actually be pretty handy. :)

On PC I'm going to be an explorer though.

just had quite the day on a planet:

i had just taken off because the sentinels were super agressive, when i got attacked and killed by pirates. ok then, respawn at last discovery...except no, my ship spawns inside a mountain and i spawn outside of it, falling down and drowning like i´m glitched below the map. so i exit and restart the game, but the exact same thing happens. exit again, check for saves, and there´s only one. at this point i was about ready to quit.
but no not like this! restart the game, spawn below the map again, but this time i try to jetpack up, and i make it to the ground, but can´t get to the correct side and go back down. next time i start flinging terraforming grenades upon getting close to the surface, and i just make it back to the planet surface again.
went ahead looking for my ship, and it was inside a mountain, but reasonably close to the surface (about 25 grenades down), so i started flinging grenades again, while at the same time fighting off sentinels(and running away from them and finding more materials for the launcher). just to be safe i blew away a wide area around my ship. got a bit nervous when i tried to launch it then, since i had just spent over an hour working as a landscape architect, but the ship went to space and i was free to explore again.

Would anyone really want 9 out of 10 planets barren though?

It doesn't matter much since you can just leave, and choose to spend more time on ones you like more. At least that's how I'm playing it. 1/10 is fine for me since I still want to keep making progress to the next system and not marvel at every planet I land on.

Does this game have any sort of ground vehicle? Or can you only travel by ship and on foot?

I mean, eventually that's what most people are going to do. I assume that literally nobody has time to go one by one.

I guess that's what I'll do then. Warp to new systems, buying exosuit upgrade at each station and the moving on until I'm out of resources

Plasma Launcher. It'll become your L1.
That's what I was using.
However the upgrade for terrain destruction has the beam logo and is also in the mining category and also displays white adjacency bonuses with the mining beam.

If it really is just for grenades that's OK too, but everything points toward a beam upgrade. I use grenades to make hidey hole shelters during extreme storms.

Edit - One of these.
I guess it could be just for faster mining.

Edit 2 - Found my answer after more searching.
I need another attachment to get it to work. Apparently the mining beam may be able to dig after all!

Atlas Stones or Warp Cores

Maybe I'm looking at the Atlas stone price wrong I thought it only sold for like 60k

I've tried reloading a save and going to space, then while in space open my inventory and the communication icon pops up again but it's the same place on the planet in the middle of the ocean :(
