SFV August and September Update Detailed (Dailies, VS CPU, Ragequitting, more)

Nobody's saying that they should focus completely on SFIII or completely on SF Alpha. A good balance of representation from various SF games (just like Season 1) would be a great way to honor SF's history for its 30th anniversary, rather than solely relying on SFII nostalgia.

This is correct. If their focus is really to give this a long life then there's no logic behind blowing their World Warrior wad in Season 2. Casuals need to be repeatedly brought back to the game in order to buy more DLC. If casuals love SF2 characters and Season 2 is just SF2 characters then there will no longer be a casual fanbase by Season 3.

Throw in the really popular SF2 characters (Akuma and Sagat) in Season 2 then do one per season for the rest of the series.

This guy gets it. Though I'm worried that potentially having Akuma, Sagat, & Sakura in the same wave may not sit well with some since all three of them play somewhat similarly (though they could change them up drastically to side-step the problem). Hell, Season 2 could cover pretty much every mainline SF game.
  • Street Fighter: Sagat
  • Street Fighter II: Akuma
  • Street Fighter Alpha/Zero: Sakura
  • Street Fighter III: Sean Matsuda or Oro (it's 50/50 for this, but I'm hoping for Sean as a Shoto/Matsuda Jiu-Jitsu hybrid fighter)
  • Street Fighter IV: Crimson Viper or Abel (most likely the former)
  • Street Fighter V: Ed, Azam, or an entirely new character (I'd put my money on Ed or someone entirely new)
And if Capcom feels like going beyond 6 characters for Season 2, they could throw in whoever isn't chosen from the SFIII section, or even give Final Fight (Haggar, Guy, Cody, Poison, Hugo, Rolento, etc.) & Rival Schools some love.

I want characters from every iteration of SF, EX if they can get the rights, FF, and Rival Schools.
I'm hoping that this will have a bigger cast than SFIV when they're done with it.

that's the dream if this is to follow the games as service model

Would be neat to see the history of SF reflected in the roster, but I'd like to see new characters emerge as well.

This game didnt have VS CPU?

Jesus...

Not as a separate mode. Previously you could only do vs. CPU in training mode.

It's perplexing cuz all the work was already done, they just needed to let you assign it to a side in versus, lol

heck, at pre-launch events vs. CPU was fully implemented. They removed it for the release.

That bad huh?

Joking aside, he is the only sf character to ever be in a Tekken game, that says a lot.
I wonder though for how long has Capcom agreed to not put Akuma in SFV.

I doubt that was in the deal, they could probably release it now and it wouldn't be a problem.

Man this game really needed one extra year of dev time. I don't know if I can trust Capcom with a fighter ever again.

You say this as someone who didn't even have enough interest in the game to know what was missing, despite the constant chatter about it.

Personally, I'm really glad I've been able to play it since Feb.

Except they made one of the best fighters in the last few years. It was just missing some modes. It's still a fantastic game.

Also as said above. You didn't even know the mode didn't exist so you obviously don't give a shit about the game either way.

yes, that talented of a member
DLC should be guest fighters: John Cena, Simone Biles, Kevin Heart, Charles Barkley, etc.

I'd love if they did 4 more Seasons of SFV with 8 characters each. That's enough to get a healthy representation from all series, with maybe a few from Rival Schools or Slammasters.

Hopefully Season 2 is big, at least, just to get some of these obvious, nearly mandatory characters out of the way (Akuma, Sagat, Hugo). Ideally, the roster would be big enough that the following characters would have a reasonable shot of making it in:

Dudley
Oro
Q
Hugo
Eagle
Akira
Hayato
Scorp
Maki
Sodom

I'll bet an Avatar bet that Oro is in the next group of DLC characters.

What about Q? He/she's more popular.

I like Hugo as much as you do, but I wouldn't qualify him as mandatory. Though while on the subject of Final Fight characters, Mike Haggar still needs to make his Street Fighter debut.

I'd like to see a revised / functional Q. I think Oro will be because he's featured VERY heavily in the current run of the Street Fighter comic.
In that comic they've had all the DLC characters coming so far, even with their new SFV costumes, before they've been out.

It's a pure guess but it seems likely. Plus betting is fun!

No, Hugo isn't that popular and he made to 3D so I'm satisfied. If he makes it in that's great, if not I'd be fine with it.

Dudley needs to make it back because he's the character I gel with the most. Q I really want to see make it to V and Eagle would be really great too. The rest are characters I'd want to see or pipe dreams (Scorp).

Haggar would be great, too.

I think Oro is a safe bet but it's hard to tell what Q's odds are because being featured in story modes or comics make Q less exciting. His whole deal is his mysteriousness so featuring him grunting and attacking civilians in a story mode, as cool as it would be, wouldn't make a lot of sense. It'd feel more like a cameo than anything.

Maybe if Viper shows up in the roster it would make more sense as she's "investigating" Q.

I'm down for whoever in season 2 to be honest. I don't spend a lot on DLC but I'll support Street Fighter. I bought season 1 not really intent on playing any of the characters, however I like having options and may dabble sometime down the line.

I'd be disappointed if Akuma and Sakura are next season, but then everyone else would be disappointed if Blanka was part of the roster. So its probably best I don't get what I want.

I wouldn't mind Blanka as far as the 7 remaining SF2 characters go. They need to Burt T. Hawk and Dee Jay forever, though.

Capcom apparently doesn't own Hayato from Rival Schools (it's why the rereleases for overseas PSN are a pain, and Udon confirmed this that Capcom doesn't own the character), and I don't believe Capcom owns the Slam Masters either (except Haggar and Jessica obviously) mainly because the character designer is so prominate in the game's copyright.

Now, if you're talking about Hayato from Star Gladiator, then yeah he's fine, but not gym teacher Hayato.

I knew that about Hayato and it figures my favorite RS character Capcom wouldn't own. I didn't know that about the Slammasters guys but it tracks that if all these other manga artists get the rights to these fighting game characters they designed that the legendary Tetsuo Hara would get the same deal.

However, weren't a few Slammasters characters in Hugo's 3S ending? Surely they didn't pay just for that (IIRC and they're visible on screen).

Next year is the 30th Anniversary of Street Fighter

They should use this anniversary as a marketing campaign.

Retrospective videos and marketing of the entire series.

Relaunch SFV. Call it Super Street Fighter V
Include the following
- all Season 1 DLC characters
- all Season 1 Stages
- all Season 1 Colors 3 to 10 for Default Costume

New Contents that's also included in SSFV and a patch for existing players
- Cinematic Story Mode 2 (SF2 Story retold, with SF1 retold briefly)
- Arcade Mode
- Balance changes
- Selectable Trigger or Super depending on character (e.g Ryu has selectable Trigger which is Evil Ryu, Chunli doesn't have selectable Trigger hut has selectable super instead, Fireball Super)

DLC
- Remaining SF2 Classics Stages remade
- SF1 Japan Stage 1 Remade
- Akuma, Sagat, Blanka, Honda, Feilong, Retsu
- Guest Character Tifa from Final Fantasy VII
- Premium Costumes 2
- Alt Costumes 2 (can be earned with Fight money)

There is a theme which is nostalgia of SF series based. With a focus on celebrating the first 1 SF games especially the 2nd game. 1st one as it's the birth of the franchise and the 30th anniversary but the 2nd one as SF2 was the most popular amongst fans. Trailers of classic characters returning, with retrospectives, documentaries etc as well as a rerelease with lots of content may get casuals interested again.

Next year is the 30th Anniversary of Street Fighter ... not the 30th Anniversary of Street Fighter 2.

They should focus on Street Fighter 1 stuff and let the SF2 for the 30th Anniversary of Street Fighter 2 !

I don't think so. IIRC we haven't seen a Slam Master character depicted since that gag pic of Titanic Tim & Birdie back in the Alpha days. I think all of subsequent references have been in name only.

It would suck if they're being slept on because of creator disputes as well. If nothing else, Black Widow's stature, in addition to her costume, would easily make for the most indimidating female SF character ever.

Im so sad/mad that Urien isnt coming in August. Its hard enough seeing PC people get to play with the character. With him coming in September Im almost sure its to nerf him to the ground before he even has a chance, hes not even top tier as is and I feel they are using this time to suck the fun right out of him, not to mention I bet they wait as long as possible and release his ass on Sept 31st. I have been looking so forward to this character for so long :( sigh..

Can't we PLEASE move on from Street Fighter II? Yes, it was a wonderful game that basically created the genre, but it had its time to shine already. Alpha turned into "let's remake SF2" by SFA3, and the same thing happened to SFIV. Let the series move on.
PLEASE. I'm so bored of most of the SF2 cast.

Nobody's doubting that, but at least spread them out across multiple seasons (as stated earlier, just stick with 2 or so World Warriors per season).

Yeah, no doubt Capcom will spread them. I prefer new characters and maybe a few from Alpha.

It's amazing that people rarely ask for Sodom. Such a fun character.

Isn't Sodom the last Alpha character who has yet to make the jump to 3D?

Yes. Then it would be Eagle and Maki from CVS.

Completely agree. Im waiting for Urien, Q, Dudley, Hugo and Sodom to be in this game.
We're around one month away from getting Urien, so that's one of your requests that'll be fulfilled.

The best fighting game keeps getting better. The core of this game is so god damn good, and finally the game around it is beginning to match up.

SF2 is basically sf1 though lol.

SF1 has lots of problems, but nothing that updating the game would keep. The characters are awesome, the designs are cool ... the only problem is that it is a sausage fest =P

Making some characters avaliable as dlc would be awesome and for most people those chars would be basicaly new characters ! =D

Feel like with flagging sales, season 2 will be pandering. So:
Akuma
Sakura
Evil Ryu
Dan
Sagat
Sean

The season of shotos! I hope we get less popular guys like Oro and Sodom but I wouldn't blame Capcom for going with what'll sell while they still can.

SF1 will always have a special place in my heart because I remember loving it in the arcade and at home (on the T-16 CD), but also because it had a totally different mood/vibe. It wasn't comic or over the top or heavily anime-inspired like all the games since, it was more of a gritty/cool take on a fighting tournament. Real world locations, plausible fighters and styles. I still love the series but SF1 had a unique flavor.

That would literally be the worst season ever. I hope they continue the combo of fan favs and characters that weren't in SFIV

I like this idea. You can never have enough shotos. I think if Dan ever got in the game they should just give him for free nobody going to buy him lol.

SF 1 has : Ryu, Ken, Retsu, Geki, Joe, Mike, Lee, Gen, Birdie, Eagle, Adon, Sagat

Ryu, Ken and Birdie are already there.

So we are left with ...

Retsu
Geki
Joe
Mike
Lee
Gen
Eagle
Adon
Sagat

I think the bolded is a good mix of "known" characters and "unkown"
