Final Fantasy XV - 50 min video

Anime Noctis reacts to his dad's situation so good in Brotherhood EP 4. He's angry and upset... yells at Ignis then he goes to the arcades with Prompto to cool his head but then a certain "Game Over: You are dead" message appears when he loses...

Meanwhile in the game... Cor details Noctis the situation and Noctis says, "Why did he send me off with a smile?!" It's still emotional but... eh...

Well isn't he much older in FF15? Its not as if he's going to run off and cry at his age for something like that.

That would give people the impression that he's a crybaby

Eh, we've probably seen like 10% of the cutscene. At the end of the day it's still removed from the situation, but I don't think there's enough to judge until we actually see it.

I'm curious how this will sound in Japanese. Like will it feel more natural? Only thing I'd be worried about playing on Japanese is missing lines that aren't subtitled.

It's probably only going to sound natural in Japanese. To people who understand Japanese, that is.

Hahaha I just really like anime Noctis. He's cool. I was really immersed in Brotherhood EP 4. I love that raw emotion. I want game Noctis to be the same way. Wanna see him get mad and frustrated. I really hope he does a "I didn't ask for this damn life!!!" moment.

In my case is due to the fact that Gladio and Ignis don't sound how they should in English. It's actually my first time playing a game in JP. But the JP cast sounds natural, plus English Noctis sounds exactly how he should.

He doesn't seem like a whiner in that manner, who will actively complain when he has shit to do

One thing I noticed from the 50 minute video is that a LOT of incidental dialogue, plus all combat dialogue, is not subtitled. I don't know if they will attempt to rectify this by release or not.

Then again I played through Persona 3 and 4 undubbed and there's a lot of incidental dialogue which wasn't subtitled in those either (they were never officially released with JP voice work) and honestly it didn't bother me at all.

Speaking of Persona, this is OT but fuck you Atlus and fuck your dub-only.

Just because he's destined to take the throne... doesn't mean he has to like it. I would love to see him just explode in anger because of all the stress on him then you get this cool gameplay sequence of you walking among the city trying to calm down as you remember what's important.

I agree with you that the anime scenes worked a lot better than what we've seen from the game, but they aren't 100% comparable. The anime is in reference to Noctis coming to terms with his father's accelerated aging and potential death. Its about Noctis realizing that the people near him will die, and die way before him, and being the teenager he is, doesn't want to think that. He's forcing himself into denial.

The game's scene is more in reference to to the deception of Noctis. How no one told him ANYTHING prior to leaving. This scene is much more about shock and anger for Noctis. Its about how he hates the entirety of the situation he's in, how he feels in pain both in that his dad is potentially (probably) (almost 100%) dead, but also that the invasion was a huge risk and no one warned him or told him (presumably so that they could keep Noctis away as a contingency (i think...))Where as the anime scene is about a depressive moment of impending death and weakness, the game is much more about deception and anger. Its about how Noctis can't believe that his father could so blatantly lie to his own son.

What I do like about the game scene is that its about Noctis finding a sort of point to blame here. A weird point of anger, sadness and focus that makes things more personal. Regis left him off with a smile, and a lie, and is now dead(?). I definitely think the writing and the acting could be a bunch better, but the concept of the scene is apt.

I really like discussions like these.

I think the "why did he send me off with a smile?!" Is just another father saying to his son, "I know the situation is terrible but you got this." Goku did this to Gohan to defeat Cell. Minato did this to Naruto, etc. It's special and we do need to see more moments of important scenes in the car since it's symbolizes his dad.

He'd get about as much hate as Tidus for being so frequently unhinged.

Bad as the voice acting is, I like Noct's against type personality. Doesn't seem as selfishly brooding or irate as one might expect.

Oh, sure, thats probably the underlying thematic-trope reason to it. But unlike those other 2, this is about keeping someone out of the loop (i need to watch Kingsglaive... no fucking theaters here in Canada to watch it in >:( ) It was probably 1 part "you will be okay from here on" and 1 part "I can't let you know what might happen here soon"

Pretty sure Nomura has been telling us this since 2007. :P

I'm working on my LTTP FFX thread and let me tell ya... I like Titus for various reasons.

And game Noctis is cool. He knows he has a mission. He knows what's up. Remember the infamous Dawn trailer where he's leaning against the car then he walks to the camera like, "Anybody whose in my way is gonna die."?

I actually like Tidus too :3

We still see a LOT of anime Noctis in Game Noctis. In fact I've been seeing the interactions of the characters a lot differently since watching brotherhood.

His relationship with Prompto is very much like that of 2 highschool buddies who stayed friends after highschool was done. They say stupid shit and make stupid jokes to each other ("Sea" Nocts pun for example :P )

Ignis feels like a overprotective enabler of bad behavior that mean well and know Noctis in a way that the others wouldn't really. It really feels like he's doing his job, but is also a friend with his charge.

Gladio pretty much just feels like a relatively close friend. His dialogue in fights seems to be much more "about the battle and how noctis acts in it" rather than anything else. He tells Noctis why his weapon sucks in a Certain fight, for example. This works well in 2 ways though: 1: Its gives the player a good intro point into the game mechanics through the banter. "This weapon is slow, and these enemies are fast, and this character who is talking knows more than me and is teaching me to play better" and 2: it reinforces the idea that Gladio is Noctis' sparing teacher.

I'm actually kinda surprised at how good Brotherhood is as a companion piece (though it may not be amazing standalone)

Nomura never considered Noctis irate or brooding, just inverted and shy, even though he had a goofy side. When talking with Stella about their powers, he always just dismissed it and never really acted like it was a burden, like here for example

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vrEjbVxfsaE

Pretty sure Nomura only ever said "the way you probably think Noctis acts isn't how he actually is". The 2011 trailer dialogue was more inline with a cocky kind of character.

At least they seem to have followed through on it!

I think Tidus is a bit over hated.

Noct will be subject to a lot of prejudging.

Perhaps I misread your previous response. lol

There's already a bunch of people at the start of every FFXV thread that talk about how the characters look "emo" or "punk", so...
yeah, you're not wrong...

Yeah, Tabata said he's changed Noctis' character. He actively didn't like him at first, because he felt like someone who didn't have many faults.

In which ways did he change? He wasn't very specific, and we really didn't see much of Noctis' character, but I really only started liking Noctis from 2014 onwards after Tabata took over.

Now, he feels like a character with more subtleties that slowly developed into who he is when the game starts. I feel like a few lines that Carbuncle had from Platinum Demo were really good in portraying that.

Many women who I know that are excited for the game... think Noctis is a pretty boy and that's all that matters. Lmao

Hahaha I wish my friends Ash and Lily were here. They love Noctis so much. XD

Has anyone noticed that the Afrojack trailer from E3 had the same scene from Chapter 0. Check the timer at 0:28

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otVk3EEjgd8

EDIT: Went back to watch the trailer and it seems like the clothes in the afrojack trailer match the gameplay from chapter 0 but the hairstyles/faces do not. Interesting...

Probably an old render, like how in the uncovered trailer Noctis and Co are still wearing their jackets during the car pushing scenes.

Maybe I'm just seeing wrong, but the clothes definitely do not match. They're wearing kingsglaive armour (minus Noctis) in Chapter 0, while in the trailer they're wearing their normal Roen outfits. They likely changed their models in this trailer to avoid spoilers for Chapter 0.

This best way to see this is that Prompto does not have a sleeve in the trailer, but does in the gameplay trailer

Fuck all the awesome graphics in that shot. DAT BUSH
That bush is indicative of the texture filtering and LOD issues this game is suffering from.
PS1? Surely we can go earlier than that.
No I'm on the money with this one.
You seriously forgot what PS1 textures look like
Did I?

Also lets not pretend the game doesn't have issues with textures upclose either.

Don't know if Kagari is glancing at this thread right now or not but... I hope she feels better! I think she said she was sick on her Twitter or something so I hope she feels better soon!

Low quality screenshot. Focusing on tiny part of it and enlarging it. Comparing to PS1 screen.

Trying way too hard.

Once again I'm going to have to call you on your bullshit. It's a screen from the high-quality gamersyde vid, and the slight increase in quality that would come from removing the small amount of visible video compression wouldn't do the bush any favors. Furthermore, Plywood didn't enlarge anything, he just did a crop.

That bush is indeed comparable to PS1-level foliage.

No one's trying here, I could do this for the entire video.

So you clearly didn't read my post which you quoted which mentioned LOD.

Of course you could. One can easily overblown any part of the screen shots by cutting a part of it and enlarging it.

I wonder if DF will do an analysis of the recently released footage before the game comes out and compare it to the day 1 edition

You are aware that the Gamersyde video is also compressed, right?

That's a weak excuse considering the issue with certain textures quality upclose, the dithering, the hair, texture pop-in, etc.

It's clearly observable in the video. Watch the video yourself. How can you deny something so self-evident? What's going on here?

I'm hyped for this game but the outdoor environments have assets in them that are really, really bad. Game looks severely hamstrung by its engine
