Why Isn't It a Bigger Deal That Trump Hasn't Released His Tax Returns?

Seriously . Where is the outrage?

If it was Clinton that was pulling this shit the Republicans would be calling for them every day.

What is going on?

Because he can just say "Crooked Hillary" and all of his supporters will go wild.

The people who will recognize the concerns of Trump not releasing his tax returns are the people who would already have recognized how dangerous he was even without that.

Who cares? Well, who cares in the Republican party. As long he he's white and doesn't like non-white people its all good. Perfect candidate for the Republican base. This is a party that wishes they could limit the vote to only white people and will do anything in their power to get as close to that goal as possible. He can literally come out and say he will support Putin no matter what and no one will give a shit. Putin is white too. :/

Beats the hell out of me.

The media and stupid people think Hillary's coughing or other dumb nothing scandals are more important than this or Donald bribing that state official.

All of this

Because on a list of shit Donald Trump has done, said, or hasn't done not releasing tax returns is probably the least exciting and controversial.

I don't know. It's been about 40 years since a candidate did NOT submit their returns, so yeah, I don't know why this isn't a bigger deal.

He says that he can't turn them in, because he's under audit. It is true that he is under audit, but there is no law saying that he can't submit them because of that.

Politics has hit the point where a large number of people attach themselves to a candidate in such a way that those people will vote for their candidate no matter what that candidate says or does. No tax returns is not enough to switch that indoctrination, you need Trump to be found with child porn or committing cold blooded murder on live tv.

You're right, they would be absolutely savaging Clinton right now, and if she had a Pam Bondi and Trump U situation on top of that? It's fucking over.

Because Hillary is still currently ahead in the polls.

The media will bring it up if Trump starts to overtake her.

We're too awed by the spectacular shit mountain that is Trump. The people in the media are not immune to this either.

Trump isn't a typical candidate and does what he does to drive that point home by not adhering to unwritten rules or standards.

I'm surprised people haven't caught on by now. That's his schtick. Nothing this guy does or says should shock people anymore. That time passed somewhere in the primaries.

Bullshit horse racing media trying to narrow the gap while playing with the countries future.

Hillary brought it up today and said she will not back down until he releases them, so that's a start for pushing more media attention.

The media has a set narrative: Trump is a bigot and racist, but he's the political outsider who 'tells it like it is'; Clinton's experience is undeniable, but she's crooked. The concept that Trump might simultaneously be a bigot and a racist, and totally part of the easily corruptible establishment that constantly invokes pay-to-play isn't permissible in this system - the narratives aren't suppose to work across candidates. It should be noted that this isn't really unusual - all presidential candidates get reduced to one positive and one negative and stories are forced to converge on those two characteristics.

Journalists are extremely terrified of being labeled as biased - so terrified they almost instinctively aim for a false equivalency. You see this all the time with science reporting (experts are monolith that vaccines don't cause autism and have decades of peer reviewed scientific literature... but let's talk to this one shaman in California to make sure the reporting is balanced!) - this is just the political version.

The people who are already voting for him don't care.
The people who aren't voting for him aren't going to not vote for him more if he releases his tax returns.

Because it's a lot less sexy than other lines of attack on Trump and Hillary if I had to guess

It bothers me to no end that it's not getting as much coverage as it should

I believe it's breaking 40 years of presidential candidate tradition with no valid reason being given? The "It's being audited line" is crap because he could simply give previous years tax returns as a sign of transparency or give the originally submitted tax returns but nope

Because after you attack a veteran Gold Star family, nothing will register as a controversy. It's like trying to look for a ripple after covering a giant splash.

I love how no one calls him out on the "my attorney advised against it" line when no attorney would advise anyone to ever release something publicly that wasn't required. Doesn't mean he can't do it

The people who are already voting for him don't care.
The people who aren't voting for him aren't going to not vote for him more if he releases his tax returns.

It's not about alwaystrumpers or nevertrumpers, it's about the in-between, the wishy-washy and the undecided(SOMEHOW!), and it's also about double-standards and our shitty, shitty media.

Why isn't it a bigger deal that Hillary hasn't released her transcripts?

Has there been any proof on his audit claim. Not the claim that he cant release them while an audit is going on but the statement that there is an audit.

Because no historical precedent for presidents doing so, Donald hasn't released his, they don't indicate anything relevant to a 62 year old etc.

He also got on Romney about his tax returns in 2012. So, he's a hypocrite that is clearly hiding something, no conspiracy theories required.

Because he's said/done stupid shit weekly, if not daily at times for months. When he says some of the racist, bigoted, stupid things he's said his financial statements kind of fall down the list of importance.

Plus, like every other billionaire I already assume he has shady shit going on with his financials. Frankly I don't need to see it in black and white in front of me.

Because the most visible portions of the news media are more interested in covering the horserace and litigating the campaigns' talking points than actually holding anyone to account.

No precedent to release speech transcripts

You could just as easily say that there is no legal requirement to release tax returns.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there's no precedent for someone giving these kinds of speeches in the first place, so claiming that there zero precedence would be completely disingenuous.
