Apple releasing first Public Betas of iOS 10 and macOS Sierra today

EDIT: Never mind, restart number three got it to work!

I have it downloading on my iPhone, but am having issues with my Mac. I actually never updated to a public beta in case that makes a difference. I was able to redeem the code and macOS Sierra appears in my purchases in the Mac App Store, but when I click the download button, nothing happens. It greys out for a minute or so and then it just goes back to being the normal button. Any ideas?

Got the update for 10.0 gm, why doesn't it say 10.0.1? And should it be 1.7gb? Kinda big since I already have all the previous updates ...

I think it downloads the full OS regardless of your previous version. Mine's 1.7gb too and I'm on 9.1.something, it's been months since I updated.

Downloading now on both my MacBook Air and my iPhone 6S+

I'm excited since I really dug the first beta release of iOS10 but it broke a bunch of my apps so I removed it. Getting the final version now.

So it looks like the suggested words bar or whatever they call it when you type a text is mandatory now? Can't find an option to remove it.

I have to say the speed on the 10 GM on iPhone 6 is incredible. A big step up from iOS 9

And one uses Cesium music player? How is it? The font size is what breaks the camels back for me on the iOS 10 music player, I cannot stand how everything is extra large

First I'm hearing of Cesium. It looks awesome. I personally use Marvis, because I also can't stand the stock music app.

Just installed what I think is the GM (says 10.0.1 in settings). If I delete my beta profile then I'm all good right? I'll just get the next normal update like everyone else right?

I think I'll plunge on the Sierra GM on my Mac mini, just setting up a Time Machine backup beforehand. Sucks I won't be able to check out Siri, though, as minis have no integrated mic... Hopefully it works with third-party ones, or even the mic on the cable of the EarPods.

Siri works with any mic connected to a Mac.

I was hoping for an early look at watchOS 3, oh well

Seriously - iOS 10 was much more of an improvement than I thought it'd be at first glance (and feels like it really matures and perfects a lot about the iOS 7 aesthetic), but watchOS 3 seems like a *huge* improvement to the point of being a total paradigm shift for the product. Cannot wait for that one.

I'm hoping iOS 11 gives us a serious revamp of Mail.app and Calendar/Contacts/Reminders - as far as the built-in apps are concerned, those are the ones showing their age the most at this point.

I am also hoping for some serious iPad work in the next one.

The iPad pro sometimes feels like an Android tablet with how much blank space there is in non optimised apps.

I think the odds are good that iPad improvements will arrive in the springtime with a 10.x update alongside new iPad hardware.

I was just lamenting on the iPad's poor use of space with its UI last night.

Everything just seems unnecessarily blank. Not that I want information overload, but stuff like the home screen or when you open a picture in the Photos app, and there's just so much empty space.

I love my iPad otherwise though. It could really use a UI refresh.

So is it known yet if any sort of dark UI option has made it into the new iOS?
My guess is that they're working on getting it ready for when an OLED iPhone hits. Currently rumoured for next years' model, so iOS 11?

So unlike past GMs, this one requires you to be running XCODE to install it?

For all of the past iOS GM releases I've always been able to just install via iTunes after downloading the file.
It's possible that they updated the USB driver required to update to iOS 10 and right now, the updated driver is only available through Xcode 8. This is why they do the public beta program through OTA updates.

If that's the case, expect an iTunes update next week with the updated driver.

No that is not the issue. The file is just handled as a beta file even though it is the GM. That's why Xcode is required.
That's also possible but would be a change from the way they handled GM IPSWs in the past.

Downloading the GM and exiting out of the beta. It's fun, but the annoyances can sometimes be too much (like the initial black screens when the display goes to sleep). Also, I only have a single computer, so if I had a another one I think I'd be more willing to play around with it.

Anyone been using this on an iPad 4? The thing still works fine for surfing and reading so I don't want to waste money replacing it. I am worried this update will make it suck though.

does the GM ever add the 'promised' abilities to do all the 3d Touch features normally?

Sure would be nice to clear all notifications on my ipad pro.

Just updated to iOS 10.0.1. There's still the Feedback Assistant app, does that mean it's still beta?

I think it's because you got it from the beta program. If you remove the beta profile and update normally to the next one, it should be gone

Just updated my 2010 iMac to the Sierra GM and it's completely unusable. It freezes every 5 seconds for about 5 seconds. I can't click anything because when I move the mouse it freezes, and when it unfreezes the mouse is on the other side of the screen. Great...

I'm looking forward to seeing the performance on older devices too. IPad 4 and iPhone 5S is what someone in my family is using.

Had an email from Apple saying 'download the GM now' even though I'm not in the beta program. I was in for iOS 9 I think so I guess they just messed up? Tried software update and it didn't show me anything new. Thought it might have been a nice gesture to previous beta participants

I got that email too, though I haven't beta tested since iOS 8, IIRC.
You have to download a beta profile on your phone/tablet. Visit beta.apple.com on iOS Safari and there will be a link to it.

Just updated to the new GM, and I'm pretty damn disappointed at a first glance:

- They seemingly have removed the option to sort notifications by app. Instead, they force them to be sorted chronologically, which sucks so hard it's actively frustrating.
- I can't find a way to have smaller artwork in the Music app. Right now, it comes off as a bloated mess, and as someone with tons of mp3s on the phone it's insanely cumbersome to find stuff.
- I don't like the emoji and icon changes. The gradients they use now on the emojis and, for example, contacts that lack images looks tacky as hell.
- Don't like the look of the new notifications that pop up, too big, bloated and plain ugly.

Yeah the music app is terrible. Feels like I enabled an accessibility enhancement. That fat text ugh. Also all the icons and the controls are so huge too. Apple I'm not blind.

I have so much lag with MacOS Sierra GM, in the folders.

Also when I startup the Macbook is much slower, but I feel like it's a bug because when I'm in I can see that the temperature is kinda hot.

I'm so disappointed, and so fuckin dumb. Giving that it's a GM I didn't do a backup. I want to go back. :(

Are you having problems with GM?

When I tried out one of the earlier Sierra betas it wouldn't detect my external USB HDD that's formatted as NTFS. I've downloaded the GM but I'm hesitant to upgrade just now.

Ah, I haven't bothered updating the beta on my Macbook. Guess I might as well wait now

You get used to it, I guess. I really don't like it as well, but what can you do. I think I submitted feedback like 10 times regarding that. I kind of understand the large album pictures under "For You". They want the focus to be on one playlist at a time.

However in something like my own playlists, there's WAY too much empty space and I hate not being able to see more playlists at once. Like, why do we even need an image thumbnail for playlists? It's 100% pointless and should just be a list

Exactly the same as you except on a 2010 iMac. No backup. If I do nothing it's fine (I have it running Plex) but if I even move the mouse for a few moments it will start to freeze up and eventually crash.

Mine is 2014.

This is the startup. https://youtu.be/t88V1of4xfY
It's so weird, first the max light and then when loaded it's so hot, like there was something stressing it while booting up.

Is there a way to save all the bookmarks on safari? Because I thinks I will have to go back to El Capitan, but I don't have a backup (yeah I know), so I don't really feel like it. I'd like to wait for an update, but I don't when there will be another one considering this is the GM, the final one.
